Recommend Me Some PS3 Titles

How come no one is into racing games?? GRID? Dirt?

Not very good games. Codemasters have a history of making shit games, and they don't disappoint.

I'd recommend grabbing the new Need for Speed and GT5 when it launches. These will be two of the best racing games you can buy.

GT has over 1000 cars . In comparison, its supposed closest rival 'Forza 3' has 400.

2 games that any PS3 owner should have in their collection are Uncharted and MGS4.

I just purchased 'Uncharted' and the first 'Resistance' for twenty pounds.

Not sure if you've tried DiRT 2 demo but it's actually a very very good game even though its only a demo!

Also, Forza 3 might only have 400 cars but it does look like its going to be a fantastic game! As is GT5 obviously :)

It's the same sort of thing though, is it not? Does it have puzzles?

You know Boothy, prior to the first Uncharted being released I was exactly afraid that it was just another Tomb Raider as I wasn't a fan of it myself. I even asked in the Uncharted thread would be worth getting and I had my regrets about getting the game for that reason.....I ended up buying the game anyways and never looked back. I loved it and was hooked. Still to this day the finest game on the PS3...like the others say, its got this charm about it that hooks a lot of people plus it had such good graphics at times you forgot to play the game and stood there just looking around in awe

It's shit.

Unless a pointlessly convoluted plot and mind-numbingly tedious and dreadfully acted cut-scenes are your thing.

HIGHLY controversial.

My opinion of you has changed after that comment Pogue :nono:

GTA 4
MGS 4
Killzone 2
Uncharted
Fifa 09

These are the best games on the ps3 so far IMO with the first two head and shoulders above anything else around.

i wouldnt get fifa 09 though, we are not too long away from fifa 10

I have just started playing it. The first level reminded me of Tomb Raider, somewhat. Far superior, though.

Used or new games?

I just spent £85 on books :nervous:
Used. I previously wouldn't have considered buying used, but my brother convinced me. I'm glad he did. Neither disc has a scratch on it, and the manuals are in mint condition.

Used is made all the much better on PS3 due them being Blu-Ray disks. As Weaste said, they have a coating which makes them alot more reliable. Some very good bargains to be had on the Used Game stands!

I didn't like the Dirt 2 demo. While it had some improvements, it'll end up like the previous Dirt and back at the shop after a week. Fun for a few hours and then it just the same thing time and time again. Codey can make some amazing games graphics wise, but the gameplay from their last bunch of racing games has been some what lack luster. I've been playing the race driver games since the very first incarnation with TOCA, and to be honest, TOCA on PS has been the highlight of them all. Grid did have a good drifting engine though.

Apart from Richard Burns Rally, GT4 and the Studio Liverpool f1 games, racing games have been quite poor in recent years for consoles. With quality steering wheels getting cheaper and cheaper, I think we may be getting very close to a LFS or I Racing style game dedicated for the Sim Enthusiasts in coming years.

Weaste, have you run LFS on Linux on your ps3?

NHL 2010 is about to hit the shelves. And before you laugh, even if you don't like ice hockey / know nothing about it / think it's a shit sport etc you'd be amazed just how much fun this game is. NHL 2009 is by far the best sports game I've ever played to date. I'm first and foremost a football man, but FIFA has absolutely nothing on NHL when it comes to gaming.

I thought that would be "The Show" for yank sports? Always gets high scores.

 so were judging racing games by the amount of cars they have now?

One of the feature of Firmware 3.0 was that it allows access to the GPU if you are running linux.

Though I could have dreamt this.

One of the features of 3.0 is that the slim model can't even install another OS. The closest it's got with PS3 Linux is that recently support was added to allow access to the full 512MB of RAM by Cell.

Yeah I've heard that's supposed to be good too, but I've never played it. And the new Madden supposed to be something else as well.

Hockey isn't a yank sport btw. ;)

Ok, when on ice, it's a North American invented sport. Is that better?

Not that it's a big deal to me but why not just call it a Canadian sport and be done with it.

It's a bit like saying "Football when played on grass with eleven men on each team is a European sport" instead of just saying "it's an English sport".

I don't view the citizens of the USA and Canada as being any different to one another, simply being separated by a border where on one side the British lost their colonies and on the other side retained them. Apart from that and the difference in government that brings, they are both two places of immigrant Europeans that talk funny.
