Rangnick press conference | Middlesborough (H) | FA Cup

I havent tracked the story so well so what is it. Lingard wanted to go, club stopped the move cause of Greenwood situation or cause not agreeing with a club who wanted him, then he was apparently asked to take time of but Lingard says it isnt so?
That's the gist of it.

I dont mean to be pedantic but if his headspace is clear that means he doesnt have a brain.

See one of his tweets a few down from this, going on about his head again whilst doing some modelling pics.

The guy is just weird

According to the Athletic podcast, Lingard did not want to go until recently, until Newcastle came in and offered to double his wages or some such thing and then suddenly he wanted to leave. United asked for a loan fee + 10M in survival bonus, which Newcastle refused. United were willing to let Martial and Donny leave as they were on good terms but apparently all these "Sources close to a player said xxx.... " leaks were coming from Jesse's entourage, so they weren't motivated enough to work with him so he can get paid more elsewhere for a paltry loan fee.

Every time i see that word entourage.... Ugh.. Imagine, Lingard has an entourage. In other words he acted like a cnut?

I'm guessing someone at the club said would you like to take a couple of days off and Lingard has said yes, so he can technically say he was offered it and they can say it was his decision.

I saw that, wtf was that. There are 4 pics of him modelling

Unless you expect fans to scout players as extensively as a professional scout of the club would then this doesn't make any sense. They wanted to sign him because they believed he'd be better than the current options, it isn't 'for the sake of it'.

We don't know whether they're correct in that, we don't know if the club made an assessment or if they did whether that's correct either. The only way 'for the sake of it' makes any sense is if you we just assume the club have done everything 100% as they should with 100% accuracy in their decision making, only then would the suggestion of a signing when we didn't make one be for the sake of it.

As far as i'm concerned we had a vital need which we didn't fulfil, given the clubs record i'm fairly confident that we didn't take all the correct decisions.

So, if the fans dont have extensive knowledge, why don't you leave the club to do their research?

Firstly, we have an interim manager so you don't know what the incoming manager would want? So you will be filling a squad space for someone the manager might not want?

Secondly, the club have more faith in McFred doing a better job for 4 months than a new signing, who might take a couple months to settle?

Finally, since Ralf has come in our 2 best players have potentially been McFred.

We have a vital need, a change in formation means Pogba coming back can play in the 8 too.

Why would lingard go on twitter to say that? It’s undermining the manager surely?
Not really doing himself any favours.
I can only assume he's telling the truth. Wasn't there an incident like this with martial as well. Maybe not necessarily RR lying, but told what to say from above. Why haven't the club/RR come out and denied it? Some weird going ons at the club.

Head not quite clear yet

Deary me, trying to decide what's worse, their decision making on fashion or their decision making on the pitch.

Basically because he's leaving, he doesn't give a sh1t what he says anymore and whether it causes issues with the manager or the club. He's off in the summer anyway.

Aaah, none of this drama come summer. It is really close.

Who is pulling the strings here? If the board pulled the plug on Lingard deal, who is the driving force behind this?
Its not rangnick, its not fletcher, if he says the board it cant be Murtough..... .. Gill and SAF?

I assume that Murtough is at board level.

Seems logical that if the club wanted him available (and denied him a move) due to Greenwood’s absence that they would ask him to go be unavailable for a little while longer. It’s commonplace that clubs ask their players to take time off after just having had time off. Yep, sounds reasonable to me, I’m team Jesse on this.

To be fair it wouldn't surprise me if Lingard was clearly and vocally unhappy with the situation and was basically told to calm down away from the team, so that he doesn't cause more unrest in the team.

It could well be a situation where Lingard didn't explicitly ask for time off, but that Rangnick tried to be diplomatic about a heated discussion so that everyones face could be saved.

So when we stay true to the exact words I actually tend to believe Lingard but I assume that he more or less said something closer to "feck all this" instead of "might I have a few days off?"

But then he would be talking nonsense with the “my headspace is clear” part of the tweet.

Let me rephrase, for clarity. There’s no way that Jesse Lingard’s entire tweet is the truth. Either he’s asked for time off or he’s been told to sort himself out, in which case his head isn’t clear.

A fully motivated player who has just been off on a break in Dubai wouldn’t be asked to take a couple more days off.

And even if his entire tweet was true, it’s troublesome that he feels the need to publicly go against his manager and employer to preserve his own public image.

Not necessarily as we don't know when this conversation happened or what happened. This may have happened on Monday and he felt okay on Wednesday for all we know. I suspect both of them are telling their own truth but without any knowledge of the situation it sounds like a communication thing, similar to with Martial.

It doesn't mean him or Martial are completely free of any blame but I can understand them wanting to clear up a narrative that they believe is unfair.

Well if he was reprimanded, it's good that Rangnick is keeping it inside the club, which is maybe why he said this to the media. Lingard wanting to continue with this argument is not good for him or the club.
Just play football and keep your opinions to yourself and not upset the rest of the dressing room.

Fully agree with your last sentence. But the question if he has a clear head might just be a subjective thing - Lingard might think he has that, while Rangnick might strongly disagree on this.

He might have been told he is moaning and groaning about not getting his move, so then it is still on his mind and his head is not clear.

Bordeaux is a nice city, I actually think that he missed on an opportunity from a human standpoint. Now I don't know easy it would be for his family to join him even for 6 months but I would think that if possible they would enjoy it.
I don't think his family would bother moving over when he's only there for a few months in the middle of a global pandemic.

I would assume and honestly hope that the both the club and RR are not going to stoop to responding to the drivel Jesse posts on his social media. If they did respond in any way it would only prompt more denials from Jesse and "sources inside the dressing room" crap from the likes of Luckhurst. The best way to deal with a serial self publicist like Jesse is to ignore him.

Im more inclined to believe anything that doesnt immediately go their own way would be "unfair" by their reckoning.

I honestly don't see anything wrong with that fashion. It's not my style but it's just very common to see out there.

The club should be bollocking the player and maybe a fine then if hes lying and undermining the board and/or RR. If you or I contradicted the truth with a lie at work, we would be dealt with severely. Thats why I'm a bit sceptical, especially thinking about the promises Ole gave players to stay for example.

As per Rangnick, Lingard did not say he wanted to leave in Jan window
10 days before window close, he said he wants to leave
Club discussed with interested parties, but could not come to an agreement
Meanwhile Greenwood problem cropped up, with club now needing one more attacking player in the squad, just 1-2 days before window close
Given that agreement never happened, club suspended anymore discussions.

As per Rangnick: Lingard needed time off to clear his head. Club obliged.

As per Lingard: He didn't need any time off. He was 100% professional and ready. Club asked him to take time off.
Though not sure why he took it if he was clear in his head and ready.
