A good result, but I'm not in the least bit excited. We've been here before, and it's the consistency that is always lacking

If Ole plays 5 at the back it's OK. And one of the so called reasons the board don't want Conte cos he plays 5 at the back and it's not the United way.

The primary reason is not the style of play, that's fans. The reason the board don't love getting Conte in is that he's an incredibly strenous person to work with, and he rarely lasts too long in a job because of it. He gets results, but he also gets shown the finger when he leaves by the people in charge

U mean Conte wants to be the manager and have control. Where as Ole's more of a Glazer puppet.

Well I'm basing it more off of Conte pissing off previous employers he has had. The Glazers will sack anyone to save face, including Ole, so if the poor run continues then he will be gone. I think it's clear that the Glazers want Poch or Rodgers over Conte at this point otherwise Conte would already be here.

Great team performance tonight. Well set up, and tactical plan followed to the T by the players. Defensively very solid, albeit Spurs offered very little coming forward. Pleased for the manager. Hope it continues.
We need to have this level consistently now, which is the piece of the puzzle we have struggled with.

AWB was excellent at right wing back which I was surprised at. He’s actually very cute on the ball when he wants to be. If only he can nail the cross, there’s a full back in there.
Bruno playing that little bit deeper was outstanding, pulled the strings.
Varane was outstanding- take him out of the side and we’re defensively shocking.
McTominay was very good.
Ronaldo proves he needs a partner and can’t be isolated, as much as his goal was brilliant, it was his assist that made me smile.
I think we could have hit on something here with the system. It suits our centre halves bringing the ball into midfield. I also thinks it suits Sancho, Greenwood and Rashford.
drives the standards when you see Cavani and Ronaldo playing like that. Greenwood, Rashford and Sancho just have to work that little bit harder to get a look in.

As I said, Ole will rise from the ashes like a phoenix.
He will beat Pep Guardiola is my idol once again.

Great result, very happy we didn't drop more points. The performance was okay and against a really bad Spurs team. I thought Oles subs were defensive, strange bringing Matic on for Bruno, i still do not get why Donny cannot play, this formation is perfect for him. Can finally have a good weekend, but i want this man gone.

I don’t think people want us to lose, they are just afraid that Ole will stay.
It isn't worth wanting us to drop out of the top 4 just to get rid of Ole. It shouldn't have to come to that just to get rid of him, but our board has shockingly low standards and expectations.

Interviewer: does the criticism bother you?

Ronaldo: I've played 18 years and I know one day we're great, lose and we're crap!

Love it

Hats off to Ole for doing what was needed there. 3 cbs and much more compact defending stopped the bleeding. We still managed to gift them a few chances like we always do this season but thankfully Spurs are also lacking form and confidence.

Hopefully we will continue to defend in this shape and also cut down on the stupid errors if it is not to much to ask.

Excellent performance much needed after last week.

Spurs were awful it has to be said but feeling much happier tonight .

Excellent response, albeit against one of the worst performing teams in the league this season. We needed a comprehensive win after the most humiliating result in our modern history, and we got it. I knew Ronaldo and Cavani had to happen, and Varane is genuinely one of the best defenders in the world. Our defending with and without him is like chalk and cheese.

Of course though, I’m not going overboard yet. Certainly not jubilation, like my commentator said. We’ve had better one-off performances under Ole, and we followed those up by inconsistent performances. He still played Fred and McTominay, whom we all know we most likely won’t win titles with. The one thing I can hang on to is the hope that we’ve found our best formation now, with this 3-4-1-2 system.

Still though, well done lads. Just need to find that elusive consistency now.

3 at the back. Good idea. 2 wingbacks fair enough. Two experienced forwards creating and exploiting space. Great.
Bruno unlocking defences with a range of passing...very good.

Don't understand why we still need McFred against such opposition. Ole needs to be braver against the weaker sides and try and play another creative player in the middle.

Going ultra-defensive towards the end....understandable under the circumstances I suppose but not a good sign of a braver Ole being around the corner.

A 3-5-2 makes a lot of sense for this team. You always want to play to your strength and we have 3 very good center defenders. So why not play them together? This formation also gives us many options at midfield. The three, depending on the opponent, could be

....Pogba.....Bruno
...........McT/Fred

....DVB.....Bruno
.........Matic

....DVB....Pogba
.......McT/Fred

The possibilities are numerous.

At forward we have Ronaldo, Cavani, Rashford, Greenwood, Sancho, and Lingard (cough) to use.

For wingbacks we have Shaw, AWB, Dalot, Fred, and maybe even Sancho would fit here.

I expect us to win midweek and maybe Ole gets my support again.

The only negative for me today was the number of times Bruno and Fred gave the ball away. They have to be sharper against better teams.

It isn't worth wanting us to drop out of the top 4 just to get rid of Ole. It shouldn't have to come to that just to get rid of him, but our board has shockingly low standards and expectations.
I agree with you. The problem is the board, spineless bastards !

Ronaldo, Cavani and Bruno have some sort of chemistry which is nice, even if they can be wasteful at times. Bruno seems to have no chemistry with Fred or McT however, and their one twos go no where quick. Can't hurt to use VdB in place of one of those, and since there's 3 CBs behind its not a massive risk.

I'm still definitely ole out, but we need to rack as many points as we can right now so the next manager isn't playing from too far behind. I fear City will be a rude awakening after the good feels of today

Phew! Over to you Nuno. United can rest from the critics for a few days. Admirable reaction from Ole and the lads. Much needed result. I'll enjoy the ride till the inevitable next meltdown. The sooner we move on to the next chapter the better our chances of properly competing again.

Over our last two games:

United got 3 points in two matches against Liverpool and Tottenham
City got 3 points in two matches against Brighton and Crystal Palace

So Ole hasn't lost any ground on Guardiola despite playing against MUCH tougher opponents.

It's a 343. I'll never understand why people obsess over formations. If the formation leads to the best balance then why not?
There was no 3-4-3 today. Where have you seen that? Against the ball it was sometimes a 6-3-1 with McTom joining the backline and Cavani joining the midfield. Obviously the players have to find some sort of groove in that new formation and obviously no formations is defensive or offensive just because but lets not go overboard today. The players played just like they always do just that we have a third CB in there. The fullbacks played like fullbacks, not like Wingbacks or LM/RM. McTom was deployed a bit behind Fred and Bruno most of the time too.

3-4-3...

Good performance, lovely to get a clean sheet, and just delighted to see ile do something different.
