FA L FA Cup 4th Round

Manchester United 1:1 Middlesbrough

Post-match discussion

Our strongest team possible and we're out. CL is next, and top four unlikely. Pain.

We paid the price for some shocking finishing. Game should have been over at half-time. I thought Henderson would have done better for the penalties but he was as bad as DDG. Hard on young Elanga but the fault is with the senior players.

30 shots on target and could only scored one.. we missed a few real sitters…

We played really well for 75minutes, Bruno and Pogba running the game but Ronaldo seems to have lost his scoring edge or even his confidence. Rashford back to his usual naff self.

loosing Pogba and sancho was a blow and suddenly theres not much attacking talent on the bench to replace them, martial gone and of course Greenwood.. Cavani on a rest..

Boro very very lucky but we only have ourselves to blame.

The seasons a disaster (again)

In the summer, we will sign a manager in a complete mess up, maybe sign 2 players and that will be good enough for the board.

I don't care what the consensus is, Ronaldo is the problem. Collectively we are worse off with him in the team. Now after the fit he threw at the Brentford game Ragnick is too chicken to sub him off and the team suffers. I can't wait till he goes.
This was a legitimate argument when we had martial and Greenwood - but Ronaldo unfortunately now has to play. We have no other options. And the problem is he looks absolutely finished - he’s regressed during the season. Before the argument was yes he’s going to get shed loads of goals but to the detriment of the team - now he’s not going to get goals either. He’s miles off it.

I’ll focus on the positives.

We genuinely played well and the decision to allow their goal was shambolic. Our squad doesn’t have the depth to carry across all our games. If we scrape through the CL, we’ll need the break as we definitely don’t have the depth to focus on 3 competitions.

Can someone walk me through how VAR doesn't shit all over that goal?

Genuine question, missed the game so wonder if there was no VAR or the ref can ignore it, or uhm errr something that explains it?

We won the toss, why did we decide to take pens second??? Always more pressure.

Because our captain is a fecking idiot. Didn't learn from Bruno's mistake in the EL final even though everyone and their mother was talking about it the next day.

We really have some of the most low IQ footballers I've ever seen.

Thats just one of those games. The Gods of the FA cup were against us. Should have been 3,4,5 nil up but the finish just wasnt there. I think going on holiday just takes off the edge sometimes. They scored their only chance. It was accidental so for me it was a goal. Then pens is also just up to the Gods. It just wasnt our night. Move on.

It's one of those games and I'm not even mad. I've accepted the fact that we're a bit cursed since Fergie left.

We played well enough to have won that comfortably. Our wastefulness in front of goal is becoming a major concern, yes, but on another day Ronaldo would have buried his penalty in and Bruno the open goal chance. It just wasn't to be.

Sancho scored again and we dominated the game. Sometimes this sort of result happens. Stinks when it happens to you. We will get better.

My frustration is that we are ALWAYS a team who are going to get better next month or next season or next year.
This can't keep continuing. We need to perform today.
No other top team spends so much money on players and personnel and accepts that this season is a write-off.

And I promise you, if we change manager in the Summer, next season will also be a write-off. Reason: because the new manager needs to assess the players on the current roster and bring in his own players the following Summer.

I thought the full backs, Shaw and Dalot were poor. Particularly, Shaw. Looked very rusty and lacked incisiveness.

Not a good week. Again.

Can't stand Chris Wilder. The camera always pointing on him. It was as if the wanted the upset that they indeed got.

Without hyperbole, I think that may be the very worst goalkeeping performance for a penalty shoot-out that I've seen in my entire life. For most of those shots, he just kind of slumped down onto his knees without even attempting to go for the ball. If I didn't know better, I'd suspect him of intentionally throwing the game (I know he didn't, but it certainly looked that way). Never in my life have I seen a goalkeeper just neglect to attempt a save numerous times throughout a shoot-out. That was grotesquely bad.

Our terrible finishing and some bad luck but it really boils down to the fact we are just not very good. We were never winning the FA cup like we are 100% not winning the CL. We are totally finished as a top team and top 4 is the only thing our owners care about. That is far from a certainty this season also, just a huge mess this club is and will only get worse by the summer when players feck off and our board continue doing what they are best at, being complete incompetent cock wombles.

Varane is getting an easy ride.

Where was he for the goal?
Proper stretch this, where was Maguire or Shaw at the back post stopping the on rusher? Varane barely put a foot wrong, only him and Sancho can hold their head up.

Ronaldo: too old
Elanga: too young
Fred: too short
Rashford: too rashy
Varane: too brittle
Bruno: too blind
McT: too big
Maguire: too slow
Henderson: number two
referee: too wank

Sigh.
At least it's still early on in the FA cup, and we'll quickly move on.

Would we have won another 4 games and beaten a couple of the better teams later on? Probably not.

Need to hit back straight away now, before top 4 evaporates and an even crapper season hits us.

1 goal from 30 shots. And shedloads of overhit crosses. And its not even Saturday yet. Ffs

Games decided on pens are officially recorded as draws
To be fair I did know that but just the thought did occur to me anyway.

It’s a shocking result no matter how it’s looked upon

He was diving the wrong way. No point going for a full Hollywood save when the ball is going the opposite direction.

:confused:If VAR says that's a goal I honestly have no idea what I'm watching anymore
VAR was correct because it was accidental hands and he didnt directly score from it.

I think incompetence should be punished so I don't think whether or not handball is an accident on the part of the player that is supposed to be controlling the ball should have to be evaluated.

Var and ref did their job. Take it up with FAs.
