Pleased with the win, McGuire !!! What’s happened to him he looks awful , AWB wasn’t at his best , but there was more energy about the team , in the first half anyway , Sancho getting better all the time , Mason is going to be a very special player his all round game is improving with every game, from where I was sitting it looked like Ralf stopped Ronaldo walking down the tunnel after his substitution , it’s not all about you Ronny, Matic was an improvement on Fred his passing is so much better , all in all long way to go but you can see we are getting better.

Happy with the 3 points but there was absolutely nothing to take from the performance. Still have no idea what this team is about or trying to be.
We drove into space much better from the back. We had more moments of looking comfortable with possession that I believe ended in us being more patient with the ball which lead to the goals.

I don't think this performance is fooling anyone. We got one of those performances from Mctominay which has once or twice a season. Everybody else was nothing but crap again. I don't know what Ralf is telling them but we cannot still find those forward passes. We continue to pass safely and like cowards. Ralf is getting frustrated everyday but I don't think he'll show any of the frustration as yet. He knows very well that this team lacks a lot of conviction and we need time to bring the Manchester United mojo back.
He does seem like a patient guy, even though it's early days. I think he knows we need younger more energetic players to play more as a unit, leading to controlling games and being able to consistently have the energy over a full 90.
Got the result that we needed.

McTominay’s best game in a long time. Far better when he plays more advanced in the opppositions half than sitting back and protecting our defence.

That’s the two only real positives for me to take from that. Our passing and movement is still so painful to watch at times.
I do wonder if Ralf and whoever takes over can create more consistency in him. I do agree there's a lot of those painful moments but I do see improvement in movement off the ball and players feeling more confident to drift into space. If McTominay can start hitting those in from the 40 yard line like Scholes use to, we're gonna be even more dangerous. Even if the keeper spills it our positioning is good up front.

Ragnick has to make some sale's that's for sure.
Weirdest thing for me is how people don't pick up Bissaka's runs though, I've seen him on numerous occasions across many different games (last season and this) make some dangerous fantastic runs and be completely ignored.
Happy New Year!

Second half especially.

Players receiving the ball at a total standstill and killing the ball completely before moving to another who did the exact same and so on. It was awful to watch.

AWB and Shaw are our best fullbacks. That couldn’t be more obvious and last night’s game confirmed it.
Yeah, stuck out a mile to me, too. I’ve never really gotten the Dalot thing. Unless he really trains on then he’s short of the level we should be aiming for. Telles is a fine, perfectly serviceable backup LB. Very little evidence, in England at least, that he’s anything more.

AWB gets a lot of stick on here and there’s obviously loads he has to improve on but his assists record since he arrived, for example, is decent for a PL fullback. It just looks quite ugly and unnatural at times and I suspect that conditions people as to exactly how good or bad it is.

I actually worded that wrong. It should have been “our last 3 games confirmed it”. We’d have been a hell of a lot more effective against Norwich and Newcastle with better fullbacks. Dalot and Telles benefitted from the timing of Rangnick taking over but I fully expect them to remain on the bench from now on and we’ll be a better team for it.

Probably an unpopular opinion, but i thought it was a continuation from the Newcastle game - lots of misplaced passes and no real control of the game. Still looks like team who have never played with each other before - i can see any chemistry between players.

Good first half but second half was back to usual. Losing the ball and passing was terrible. Need a DM and a CB.

Yes but Shaw was in some terrible form in a few games. He looks to be back now.

Better performance but if we learned anything this season is that we are capable of half decent play and then fallow with horror shows. Hopefully this time it's a start to some consistency.

I actually don’t have a problem with Shaw and AWB getting dropped. They were playing badly and needed a kick up the arse. They’re still both far better players than the two who (temporarily) replaced them.

If United’s squad cost what Burnley’s did I would probably understand it. Top Red points for you.
Learn to enjoy a win, you'll feel much better for it.

Good win but slightly concerned on how a team like Burnley came to Old Trafford and were confident and actually went for it instead of what doing they usually do. And if teams like Burnley can see something tactically where they can be bolder then god know what better teams than Burnley will do.

It’s curious. I didn’t miss Rashford. I think it good to give Bruno a break too. I’ll miss Cavani. Good player; good influence
I agree with Pogue about the backs, but I think it’s worth persisting with four and giving people a chance to develop. Potentially a better setup with Matic there and McT higher, maybe he’ll give Donny a chance till Fred the Red gets over Covid.

No idea how that second goal went down as an OG. I've seen bigger deflections than that attributed to the player who took the shot.

Yeah, that really pissed me off. Give him his goal ffs. Loads of goals are scored from shots that start off heading wide and curl in. Which could easily have happened here, based on how he struck it.

Where does Bruno fit into this 4-4-2?

I guess he doesn't. Which is interesting.

All a work in progress, which has been heavily hampered by covid issues.

A win is a win and were unbeaten under Ralf which is the main thing considering how we played those last games under Ole and while our players are getting use to a new training system which is a lot more intense apperently. It's not going to be an overnight fix so playing badly and winning is a good thing.

I like the fact he took time to not rush back Verane too, a massive opposite to what Ole did with Maguire for example.

Wolves will be a tough game but hopefully we can progress with Ralf's vision, it's clear we are still struggling with the basics he is asking e.g. his point about Burnleys goal clear it or play a simple pass.

It was enough to beat Burnley. Still think they had too much of the game at times.

I like McTominay popping up edge of the box. He's shown on multiple occasions that's in his locker. Perhaps with a genuine DM he can get there more often?

Like what Shaw and Sancho were about...Maguire and Bailly were just plain awful. Greenwood was lively but it shows that there is a lack of support that side with AWB.

I love Cavani. Good movement and application. He plays the game with such purpose.

Big improvements still needed. Lack of fluency at times. Still seems a little aimless. We still seem to need so much in the way of first steam personnel despite spunking an absolute fortune.

Agreed. Big surprise for me too. I don't know about the tactic stuffs but truth is we were crap against Norwich and Newcastle. Literally the two worst teams in the league. That's probably why imo.

It worries me also tbh.

Ronaldo was shit. Missed many chances and then celebrates a tap in

Maguire is terrible.
So many times we got the ball in last third and instead of forward pass or pushing forward we pass back and lose the tempo.
Like shocking how the players don’t know who was ahead of them for a killer pass.
No bite on the counter

so many hoofed crossed balls forward for a hope and prayer. Wtf.

Lets be honest the goals mostly came from individual brilliance.

we desperately need a young Matic cm.
What was he supposed to do? Stand there being miserable?

I’m wondering has the uncertainty over players future in the next 6 months has anything to do with the fact players seem to have no chemistry whatsoever .
Possible departures in the next 2 windows -Henderson
-(Jones)
-Mata
-Pogba
-Matic
-Cavani
-Martial
-Donny
-Lingard

It’s a big number of the squad who have an uncertain future .

AWB booting the ball out for a corner absolutely shocking, that's not Man Utd zero confidence that could of easy led to an opposing goal for any better opponent.

Was chatting to my brother about this last night and we said the exact same thing. The only person I would keep from that list would be Cavani and Matic (at a stretch).
If Lingard, Pogba, Jones and co are unhappy about lack of gametime and the new regime I would sideline them completely.
If this upsets Rashford? Tough shit mate, knuckle down or your finished here too

I think Sancho showed he'll be a proper little bobby dazzler in time.
Are you Irish? What the hell does this mean? Where did it come from? My Irish friends airways use it but no-one knows the origins. Who is this Bobby Dazzler?

No, it just corrected Ole's previous mistake, by playing McTom behind Fred. McTom is a much bigger threat than Fred further up the field, and McTom is a lousy distributor on the ball.
You should give credit where due, yes he has been awful most of the season but yesterday he was really good. Does that mean he should be a first starter, probably not but when a player plays well, he should get the praise. Yes its only Burnley, maybe this kind of team is his level, bit he put a good shift in and compared to what we have been seeing from these players so far, this was promising and nice to see.

 I am not Irish. I always thought it was a cockney expression?! Never knew it was popular in Ireland.
What does it even mean and who is he? I can't even find the answer on Google. Not sure why I'm so obsessed about it but for some reason I am

I think it's a North East thing, but it's not something I'd heard widely used outside of people pre-2000s doing impressions of old Geordie men. It's just a term for something/someone considered 'good' or high quality with a connotation of it also being obviously 'classy' in some way.

I went down a similar rabbit-hole when I found out that 'more X than Soft Mick' wasn't a widely used phrase.

Shaw is definitely better than Telles. Thought Dalot did well though (mostly). But yes, AWB is the better fullback when on form.
However, a kick up the arse seems exactly what they needed. In fact, it seems Shaw needs one or two in every season. Comes back stronger everytime he gets dropped a couple games I feel.

For me it's exactly the other way round. The only thing that speaks for Telles is his left foot. But his positioning is very bad, he is weak physically and not very quick. Dalot seems a decent footballer and pretty strong for his age. I have no problem with him being a backup fullback. Telles doesn't cut it for me though.

It was the best team performance for some time; Scott was excellent, as was Shaw and deserve their places in the team, and deserve to where the shirt. CR7 looked a bit out of sorts but he scored, again, and I agree with you that its not all about him, but he is a special player. Greenwood was looking like the player we know he can be and Sancho is coming along, he just needs time and more matches. Baily was brave, but careless, Maguire careless but lucky. I was disappointed we didnt score again, but 3 points and a good performance is a fine way to end 2021!

Game of opinions, innit? Either that or we could have a tops off fight on some waste ground in Hull.

No idea how that second goal went down as an OG. I've seen bigger deflections than that attributed to the player who took the shot.

Usually it's because they've judged that the ball wouldn't have gone into the goal if it hadn't taken a deflection.
