CL D Champions League Group F

Atalanta 2:2 Manchester United

Post-match discussion

I wonder what the Atalanta manager could do with our set of players.
Ronaldo is single-handedly dragging us into the CL Knockout stages.
As for Ole...I think anybody who knows anything about football knows what needs to be said.

Its a shame we have Ole in charge.
Ronaldo could have fired us to a title.
Maguire needs to be sold asap
Our captain is set for 300k/week payrise apparently. Says it all.

Dont give too much of a feck about the result as a point away from home is better than 0 & we’re now 1 win away from quali. Who’s next? Valencia away, which may be ok, as they may be without a manager.

But I want to know what the feck is up with Varane. He walked off the pitch alright but he just sat down?

A microcosm of the season - patchy with Varane, fall apart once he departs.

A point away to Atlanta isnt that bad TBH, i would have taken that at the start of the season.

I am Ole out but resigned to the idea he isnt going anywhere. I think City will smash us at the weekend.

So many shit performances that Sancho and Donny were probably our 4th and 5th best players
At the end when Sancho passed to Donny and the keeper saved the shot... that would have been the ultimate meme goal after the last few weeks.

Extremely lucky result but a very important result at the same time. It was a pretty poor display overall, very little idea on the ball and were exposed time and time again at the back, but thank god for Ronaldo, two very good but important goals that puts us in a strong position in this group. Should qualify for the knock out stages if we make sure we remain professional in our approach.

Really not convinced we stand much of a chance at the weekend if that is our best effort though.

Absolute shambles aside from a few moments of individual brilliance (again)
Maguire needs the armband taken off him and dropped.
Bailly absolutely showing why he should start against City.
Sancho and VDB both get on and for the few minutes they got, they looked bright.
Ronaldo on another level. Just when you need him he appears and scores
Pogba was TERRIBLE. Start VDB vs City.

Ole's job is ultimately going to be saved every time by nights like tonight and at the weekend vs Spurs. Just when we are down and out, we pull something out of nothing buying more time. It will eventually catch up. I think if we lose to City, the international break will see Ole gone.

It was a dreadful performance, really.

Seeing Ronaldo score two wonderful goals is great, but we cannot kid ourselves that the performance was anywhere near up to scratch.

Sure, the composition of the squad is not ideal, but should Manchester United really be serving up that kind of display which is now pretty typical for us. It's not good enough.

I don't think they were. You always get this against underdogs, they get exaggerated massively.

We were both poor sides tonight, a draw about summed it up.
hmm maybe a bit of bias as we should expect more from our much much superior players on paper

we barely mustered a good attack apart from that lovely goal in the first half. Ronaldo with an amazing equaliser.

We didn't sustain any attacks or create any big chances. I think we had 2 shots on target in each half. The Ronaldo long shot at the beginning of the half, the goals at the end of each half and Van De Beeks shot. Really poor

Thought Atalanta were much better organised, were more threatening and we looked nervy in defence.

Based on them winning with minutes left and our lack of general creativity/quality I think we robbed them a bit

Great to see Greenwood involved on both goals. Rashford was poor tonight

We needed a sledgehammer to half crack a nut.

It's a good job he has the squad he has, or we'd have been well beaten tonight.

We were ok in parts but generally poor. Deserved the point though. Defensively we were poor, hopefully Varane's injury isnt serious cause I dont have a clue who'll play in defense on the weekend.
We were poor after we changed shape, dont know if we could have stick with 3 in defense after Varane went of, maybe Telles at LWB and Shaw as a CB...
Ronaldo, what to say, he's such a beast.

I judge Ole harshly on his tactics, but I also judge some of these players harshly on their casual attitudes and constant errors. They shouldn't get a free ride here, they are making poor, poor mistakes and at times showing a complete lack of basic footballing ability.

I understand but often when the coach isn't good enough the players look clueless and make basic errors.

The same players can then look like world beaters under an elite coach.

Not even Ole can stop Mr Champions.

I genuinely think we got a chance of winning it if we get a proper manager. We got the quality in the squad.

Classic Champions League game away from home. Reminded mig of old Fergie sides when we played italian teams.

On a positive note Baily and ofcourse Ronaldo. Both were MoTM for us. Matic made team more robust when he came on.
On negative note. Maguire once again. What has happened to him after Euro? Shockingly bad. Need to have a break. Go fishing or something. Right now he is just making team shaky from an important position. Pogba. Should never play again for us. Once again he just jog around without any effort. He is somewhere else in his mind. And that is ok. As long as he doesn't play.

Calf I reckon if not... Groin... If not ankle or achilles or something like that. Probably hammy. He's on his way to visit Sergio Ramos for help as we speak.

What game were you exactly watching?

We got thrashed and scored two goals out of individual brilliance.
What do you mean trashed? They hardly cut us open or anything. Their first goal was Ddg error. The ball was straight at him.

I think you don't know the meaning of the word individual brilliance if you saw our first goal.

Really struggling to find the positives after that match. Ronaldo is incredible. Bailly defended with every fibre of his being.

Thought the right call was to allow the manager to have the week with the team after the Liverpool farce and we bounced back well against Spurs. That second half was bad as anything else this season though. We’re hanging onto this season by our fingernails.

Maguire and Pogba worst, DDG with a some mistakes (one of them huge)

Ronaldo and Bailly were great, followed by Greenwood and AWB + Bruno had his moments (but some bad ones too). Matic added stability to our play (again).

The result glosses over the major problems that Ole brings to a team with so many decent players.

McTom gets selected constantly, Ole refers to academy players, here’s a tip - he’s not good enough, mostly missing, can’t pass, doesn’t take up positions and is slow.

Individual errors happen, but with no midfield, we can’t take advantage of our attacking prowess.

its not a stretch to suggest the whole coaching regime needs a shakeup, and reading that Woodward is reluctant to cha get Ole as it will reflect poorly on his term as CEO. Heres a tip, look like a CEO and make the change to8 prove to front office, not that difficult , is it?

I’m just lucky I live in England now, thus can watch these CL games at reasonable times. My brother back in Malaysia stayed up until 6am to watch this. Honestly, both of us hardly celebrated the goals. We just have absolutely no direction and consistency, and you know that this draw simply keeps him in the job a bit longer. The only person I was happy for was Ronaldo, who is proving this season why he is the greatest player of all time. The way he’s playing under Ole is genuinely a bigger achievement than winning the CL with Madrid. Another disgraceful, disjointed performance with chances few and far between? Who would have thought?

Our defence is just something else as well. AWB’s technical ability is still Championship level, as it was in 2019, Maguire is simply garbage, Varane is one of the best in the world but injury prone and Shaw’s drop off in form has been ridiculous. Bailly looked good today though, but we all know Maguire and Lindelof will play against City.

Oh well, at least with Young Boys at home as our last group game, we shouldn’t play on Thursday nights again. You never know with this manager though.

Calf I reckon if not... Groin... If not ankle or achilles or something like that. Probably hammy. He's on his way to visit Sergio Ramos for help as we speak.

So anything lower half essentially…

Ronaldo saving us again.

Come away from Villarreal with zero points and we are screwed arent we ? Even if we beat young boys in last game it's out of our hands?

This really isn't acceptable anymore. Dreadful performance time and time again, yet Ole is bailed out again by two moments of brilliance.

Zapata had Bailly and Maguire chasing shadows all game, the midfield was non-existent and I don't really know where Rashford and Bruno were lining up for the first half.

Starting Pogba was just a disaster waiting to happen, I couldn't believe he was on the starting line-up. It's time to move on from the saga of Pogba, and finally sign a replacement that contributes, and isn't in the squad on status alone.

We have no plan, no cohesion and no vision. We're stumbling from corner to corner, hoping to find the next formula to 'turn a corner' for a period of 2-3 months. Teams will figure us out and it's back to the drawing board once more.

I'll watch every game, and follow United to the bitter end, but I really don't know how the hierarchy at this club can leave the leadership of this squad in the hands of Ole. It is so frustrating.

Yes but remember that we are "so close" as OGS said last week...

The luck this manager has is unbelievable. If it wasn't for Ronaldos 3 late goals we'd have 2 points and would have been knocked out tonight. Shockingly bad performance again and I fear for us Saturday.

Fortunate tonight. Bailly and Ronaldo double-handedly saved us. Rest were poor.

Pogba may be suspended but if Ole has any chance of keeping his job, he needs to drop him even when fit... we crucify Kane for effort but Pogbas last two games have been shocking. At least if Ole tries DvdB (not against City :nono:), it shows he's trying different options and avoids media/fans saying Favourites FC.

Also, got to get Sancho in, again probably after City.

Right mess at the minute.

Stupid post, how many chances did they even create? they scored two goals because of our individual mistakes. The second one was jammy as feck because our captain forgot about the offside trap.

Stick Rashford in there too.
