Pogba

Don't know why he is so pissed to be subbed...

He showed nothing, he went for a stroll in Madrid.
He probably thinks he played a blinder.

Hopefully, he enjoyed the tapas

This clearly isn’t a performance thread but I guess people are desperate to criticise…

You do realise I wrote that at half time and you responded me during the game, right?

Yes, but you’re desperation to post negative comments re our players (Pogba) is pathetic.

This isn’t even the player performance thread.

The guy would go down as a huge wasted potential. Could have been one of the best players in his generation, but he's not arsed and his bad habits on the pitch have ruined such potential.

We didn't learn anything new about Pogba tonight. Give him a little bit of time and space and he's a very dangerous opponent. Pressure him and you'll get some joy.

I've long thought that he was best used for us as a wide attacker, especially so now that we've lost Mason and Rashford is struggling, or even as a 10, where his decreased mobility compared to Bruno might actually help us keep a better shape centrally.

Think he actually looked much better in the second half as Athletico gradually began to tire. The fact that Fred is not a natural number 6 and Bruno tends to be poor positionally doesn't help in terms of the space in the midfield. It was way too easy to pick triangles through our midfield.

But he played well against Championship standard teams guys. Don't forget that.

I have said this about him for years. Nothing new learned tonight. He's a luxury player we simply can't accommodate.

In fairness the second him and bruno got the ball, the AM players swarmed all over them. Still though it was very poor in the first half. Pogba got better in the second half and bruno got an assist.

Sounds silly but if I was at the club, why would I offer him a contract for more money?

Like, his performances haven't warranted a pay rise, so if he wants a new contract, it's on the same wage.

Sure if he scores fifteen goals and gets ten assists them he can get bonuses but no, no higher pay.

Could and perhaps should have been better than Patrick Vieira. Nothing more than a flat track bully for me. Looked exceptionally average again tonight upped a level from Brighton and Leeds.

And this is a club performance related critique, not the ad hoc appearances in an excellent French team.

I would love to see him stay, but honestly the best thing this board could do is spend his salary on two midfielders. They wont have his peak, but we need consistency, and we already have bruno.

He's very good at bonus extra stuff for his role.

Pretty poor at the more primary aspects of his role, and it shows in these type of games

He was piss poor today in his output. The man needs to go. It beggars belief that any time he comes out and sprays a few nice looking passes in a game we have people out in force backing a mammoth contract. Memories of a goldfish, or at least very easily impressed with respect to what should be expected for a top earner.

It is for the good of all involved that he moves on. Maybe it's not all been his fault at United, he's had some good periods - whatever, the point is it has run its course. He can maybe reignite things elsewhere because he is lackadaisical for us. We can use the economic benefit of that to find somebody more suitable.

His time with us is done. He will not shine consistently in the EPL as he needs more space and time. No doubt he’s a very talented lad but he cannot dominate games in the EPL, he will shine in a slower paced league which is where he will be next season.
Lukaku is the prime example of that…..

The talent and quality in that frame.

With 2 players United fans would have loved to see wearing the shirt.

Verratti is still my dream CM signing no matter how old he is, mad to think this is first time Pogba has played at Etihad since April 2018.

Pogba talking about United on international duty? Check.

Totally open to the Paris move and is visibly sick and tired of United. Astonishes me how some fans are still fully behind this clown. Many other big clubs' fans would have booed him at their stadiums.

Shhh.....3-2-1.....Jeppers!!!!!!!

He said nothing wrong, it's better than leaking stuff and not coming forward with what he really thinks like a lot of other players.

It's also pretty much a fact he has wasted a significant part of his career with United.

It’s interesting he hasn’t announced a new club yet. To me that can only mean nobody is offering him the big contract that he thought he could get. He has just missed so many games for Man Utd. Clubs are scared that he’s going to always be on the injury table.

He wont be our issue in a few weeks so he can really say what he wants.
Be interesting to see who'll go for him though.

Not sure what he has said that is wrong, to be honest. We have all been disappointed with how much the past 5 years have been wasted and have been very vocal about it.

Pogba has always been open about his frustrations and 9/10 they match the same frustrations that we have. I think it is clear he came back because he loves the club and had a romantic side that wanted to come back and win trophies. I also think Ronaldo has that romanticism in him too, but our supporters are so downtrodden that we refuse to believe any player cares or wants to join us, etc.

In the day and age of 'mercenaries', it should be good that feels this way and I hope all of our players feel this way and do all that they can to turn things around (those that are deemed worthy of staying, of course)

The problem is, he comes out and says it like he is totally blameless. He is not winning, he is constantly moved around, he has wasted time.

I think it’s United that can feel aggrieved to have wasted many resources on such an inconsistent star player.

He was only moved around because he wasn’t playing consistently well anywhere he was started.

We haven’t won anything because the star players with handsome wages don’t step up and do what star players are supposed to do.

Bruno came in, and for 18 months, showed him exactly how it was done. Ronaldo, despite his critics, is our top scorer at 37 years old in a poor side.

We have had 5 years of whining and complaining from an overpaid, underperforming star, who prefers to flirt with other clubs and run his mouth than show his quality on the pitch.

There is no self-awareness and no responsibility, which characterizes the feeling among all of our “stars”. It’s always someone else’s fault.

The best thing we can do for a Ten Hag is to make sure that players like Pogba aren’t here when he comes to undermine whatever it is he wants to do.

If the last 5 years have been a waste, the biggest culprit is Paul Pogba. Truly great players on those wages, get things done. 5 years of investment and still no position. Still more bad games than good ones. That is on him and he needs to take some responsibility for it.

I think he will end up leaving on less than he gets here as I cant see anyone paying him what he thinks hes worth. He has pushed himself into a corner and will have to leave to save face. I also wished utd would announce there is no longer a contract on the table

I agree that its best for Paul to leave, but do you think if Paul was playing his best football week in week out we would have won things? with mcfred next to him etc. Bruno performed great for a year and couldn't drag this team to trophies, I sincerely doubt pogba could (although he actually has won trophies with us).

The truth with Pogba lies in a few different areas, of which he has some of the blame.

But the genesis of this is buying pogba who played in a 3 with less defensive work and sticking him in a 2 man midfield, then proceeding to surround him with a mish mash of different styles of players, often far inferior to what he had at juve and expecting him to perform at his best consistently. Pogba is at fault for how he has handled his agent and for allowing his base level to drop so low some times.

Its not controversial to say that both pogba and united are to blame for how it has turned out, and its best for both parties that he moves on.

Having said that, he makes some good points in his comments.

The last 5 years haven't satisfied me either, the problem is as a fan I can't make much of a difference. The irony of saying something like that when over that time you were one of the highest paid senior players at the club one of our so called World class players and regularly put in trash performances and played consistently well for about 2months in his whole time here.

The lack of self awareness is astounding. He will not be missed, good bye Paul don't let the door hit you on the arse on the way out.

I am not saying it is all his fault, far from it, but as a senior member of the squad, he should be leading by example. He should be one of the bright lights in the squad, and he hasn’t been.

It’s my position, it’s the players round me, it’s my fitness. There is always an excuse and always a reason why it is United doing him a disservice.

He has to take responsibility for his poor performances. He also has to take responsibility for constantly undermining the club in the media like he is doing here.

Him, or his attitude, aren’t what we need right now. If he has wasted 5 years, he is to blame. I think it can be just as easily argued that the club have wasted 5 years in him.

Pogba is free to feel frustrated, but his frustration is no excuse for his poor performances on the pitch. I’d love to see a committed Pogba stay at OT but an uncommitted Pogba has been one of our problems since he returned. Au revoir.
