Pogba

Contract talks under way. Putting himself in the shop window. World Cup year. What could possibly be motivating himself to up his game? If we offer him 500k per week then basically we get what we deserve when in a years time he's once again looking for a new challenge or reverts back to only showing up when he wants to or suddenly gets injured after the world cup so he can spend another few months in Dubai.

A fully motivated Poga for the length of his contract would be a no brainer but what's the chances?
We need to pull away from the type of contract he wants. He clearly doesn’t want to stay based on a love of United otherwise he would have signed already. It’s madness paying 300-500k per week

Agreed. We need to start building a functioning Team, not a loose collection of sometimes hot mostly cold individuals.

While I don't buy into all the bad attitude talk, there's no denying that Pogba is an individual first and foremost, and tied to the worlds most poisonous agent.

If we renew I'm sure it won't be long until stories creep back into the press, before the 3month injuries start racking up again etc. Time to cut loose for me, move on.

After this season I don't ever want Pogba to play for us. I don't ever want a player managed by his agent to play for us. Giving Pogba a new contract is equivalent to spitting on SAF's face and defecating on the club crest.

How can you predict what Sir Alex would have done with him the following season?

Park was a solid reliable player so he can have no complaints about him being picked ahead of him and he obviously felt Raf had more experience for a key game in a title run.

Honestly Pogba has been one of Uniteds biggest ever mistakes, how anyone can write anything in defence of him is beyond me.

Maybe because he isnt.

Must be your first Pogba thread
I have seen “he is faking injury” stuff but a player choosing what is best for his career is “insult to the club” is a new one. Pogba really gets under the skin of a lot of people here. From discussing his mental state, accusing him of faking injury , outright deny his contribution at United and choosing what is better for his career (which it turned out he was correct), some poster have some weird obsession with him.

Maybe because he isnt.

How the hell do you figure that out, we've bought the lad twice during his career and he's about to leave us on a free transfer a second time.

He's also contributed to one of the worst periods United have suffered for the last 30 plus years.

For 500k/week I'd expect world class quality 40+ games a season. Can anyone honestly claim they've seen anything recently that suggests Pogba is capable of that? Between injury, poor form and inconsistency we've not had 40 world class performances out of him in the last five and a half years.

Even ignoring the impact it would have on the wage structure, it's simply not value for money.

The closer it gets to his contract expiring the more I’m torn on what we do with him, he’s undoubtably our best midfielder and at his absolute best it’s arguable there’s very few better than him but is the drama his cnut agent brings and the inconsistency worth a massive outlay in wages for what should be the prime of his career ?

Part of me wants to see what Ten Hag, if it is Ten Hag that is coming in, could do with Pogba seeing as Ten Hag is very much a tactician with a system and style of play but the part of me wants to see Ten Hag be able to implement his style and system with players who’ll be at least 7/10 every week or put 100% in every week.

If Pogba goes then we need to bring in two quality midfielders in during the summer as we already needed a pure out and out defensive midfielder and do we have the money to do that when we also need a right back, a centre back, a wide player and a striker with the outgoings we’re likely to see this summer.

It’s realistic that we’ll see Matic, VDB, Pereira, Mata and Lingard all leave in the summer leaving us with Fernandes, McTominay, Fred, Garner and Mejbri and that simply won’t last a season and if Fernandes was to pick up an injury would be in dire straits in midfield.

It really is a proper conundrum but I like to think we’ve set our mind on who we want in manager wise in the summer and they’ve been consulted on what to do with Pogba, if the new manager wants him then we basically need to do what we can to keep him and if the new manager doesn’t want him and has an idea of what he wants them let him walk away but either way it needs to be the manager who makes that decision and NOT the board.

He was 18 years of age, Foden didn't jump ship at City because he was getting drip fed games he respected his manager and look where he is now.

To pin point one game as a final decision to sign a long term contract is pathetic, granted I was one of the fans bemused to why he wasn't starting but he should have had more respect for his managers decision. His chances would have came under Sir Alex, he was impatient.
What does Foden have to do with this? How’s Sancho doing at City again? Some stay, some go. He went on to play 25+ league games the next season, he wasn’t exactly wrong to move.
I don't like the Bosman ruiling full stop, that was the turning point for footballers to gain power over the clubs. The point were at now is players blackmailing clubs into huge contracts.
Blackmailing clubs? Give your head a wobble lad. Yes it’s a move in favour of the players but how about when clubs isolate players from squads etc. You’re now mad at Pogba about the Bosman ruling, another stretch.
How can you predict what Sir Alex would have done with him the following season?
So let’s turn this question on it’s head. How are you so certain SAF would have integrated him into the team? Exactly, you don’t this he made a decision based on what had actually happened.

You’re making the mistake of confusing your irrational love for the club with that of an employees. Of all the reasoned arguments against Pogba you’ve raised none. Do better.
Honestly Pogba has been one of Uniteds biggest ever mistakes, how anyone can write anything in defence of him is beyond me.
This isn’t the Maguire thread.

He doesn't do what we need, he overlaps with what Bruno doesn't and doesn't offer anywhere enough elsewhere.

Can you imagine what it would be like to work for a shitty company without having the freedom to find another job? That was what it was like for footballers before the Bosman ruling.

I have no issues with some self determination. Obviously the guaranteed contract is a trade off, there is some security, but a club shouldn’t own a player’s rights in perpetuity….

Tell you what, we'll revisit this if/when Pobga decides to join one of Chelsea or City in the summer. It's just conjecture at this point.
I don't believe for a second he'll go to either club but not because he respects United so much. He's always wanted Madrid above all else and at PSG he'll be a national hero. Absolutely nothing wrong if he chooses either but personally I don't believe he deserves any sort of respect from United fans. Why should he? Since day one he's been plotting his "escape" from United which shows he's never been fully committed and a player that's not fully committed deserves nothing in my book especilly when his mouth pieces keep doing their best to cause unrest between the player and the club.

I cant believe people think that if Pogba stays on a wage he's no where near worth he'll suddenly become a different player and give his all for the rest of his contract. No matter what his technical ability is he's been very underwhelming in the 6 years he's been here and that's never going to change but supporters still want him to stay which is fair enough. We've all our own opinions but personally it's something I just can't wrap my head around.

Put it this way - the next 5 years he gives us aren’t going to be as good as the last 5. And I don’t think he’s been worth 500k for the last 5.

It’s time to move on.

He’s meant to be at his peak right now. Can’t see him suddenly turning into the player we thought we were getting in his thirties.
Maybe not but with a more structured approach to our play I can see more consistency.

United need to lose these players ASAP

Pogba
Lingard
Jones

Cut ties with these three is a MUST

There are others to also go, but having these three in the squad again next year would be beyond awful.

Maybe not but with a more structured approach to our play I can see more consistency.
I think a large part of attaining a more structured approach is going to come by weeding out the players who clearly don’t want to be here, and buying some who do.

So we bring him over from France, progress him through our youth system and then bring him gradually into the first team.

Not good enough for him, didn't matter the investment we put into his development. His head was turned and he left the club on a free transfer.

So yeah, I think he insulted the greatest manager that has ever lived and also the club.

Simple as that really.

You make it sound like the club made him a favor or something like that.

His injury record is woeful and will only get worse with time. Structure or no structure the guy isn't even fit to play a lot of the time. Also every manager he's played under so far has dropped him eventually. Why would that change all of a sudden?

I just don't see the want to sign a 29yr old on massive wages when he's already failed to deliver consistently enough for years. It's not a fresh signing of hope, we know what we're gonna get.

Maybe not but with a more structured approach to our play I can see more consistency.
Part of the reason he's inconsistent is that his performance level drops with getting tired (obviously). I can't see it getting better with age.
Structure or no structure, having him is very high risk and what, medium award strategy? He never was a key figure for us apart from occasional brilliance and some purple patches. It would be a huge mistake to hope that will change now.

I'm glad you're not being melodramatic about it or anything

Who’s getting paid £500k a week? I thought Pogba was on a maximum of £290k if he hits all of his bonuses.

Pogba threads are the weirdest player threads on this forum. I feel like I’m stepping into an alternative reality every time I visit one. I constantly read about how he’s poor 80% of the time etc, but whenever I watch him play he seems like one of the best players on the field. He’s a bad influence, despite everyone that works with him (bar Jose) saying the opposite. Fake wage figures. Made up claims about him faking injury. Bad attitude etc etc. I will never understand it but maybe I’m blind.

There is a contract offer there for him, it really is up to him whether he wants to sign it or not. He needs to be honest with himself about this. He is on his last major contract now, is he happy to go a few more years without major trophies? It is unlikely we are going to be consistently challenging City and Liverpool for a few years yet.

If he wants guaranteed trophies, he should go elsewhere so his agent can stop moaning about it.

The fact we are even discussing whether we should extend him for big money or let him go shows you how polarizing he has been at United

I genuinely cant think of a full game where he was dominate from the first to the last minute.

The lad has all the talent in the world but his ability to stay fit and consistent negates that

Would you pay someone huge money to be off sick for large periods of time? No so why should United...

If he wanted to stay he would of by now, time to offload and some other fanbase can have the same debate we are when Raiola has another essay in the media

Indeed, he should have played for us for free at least until he's 25.

United saving him from that backwater called France that doesn't even have running water or electricity should have been enough even if we played 7 defenders, instead of selecting him.

We need a midfielder anyway. If he leaves we need 2.
Agreed. We need a DM now and we'd need an 8 if he left. I might top myself if we start another season with the McFred dream team.

When you see him play like when he came on against Brighton, you think we should do everything to keep him. The problem is that’s not what you are getting for your 500k a week and that’s why you have Fred and Scott. You can be in a relationship that the sex is brilliant but only get it on your birthday rather than with someone that it is average but at least it’s regular….your choice.
