Pogba

Pogba was good last night. I know he’s been overall a fail, but so have United in reality for the length of his contract.

He seemed to enjoy being cheered last night, and his performance was decent. You guys that go every week, just get behind him, and I really think if he stays he will finally deliver and leave himself a legacy at United.

This is the ultimate frustration with Pogba. I’ve been ready for a while to just move on from him but then you see him in the last few games and realize that he is one of the few players of the requisite quality in our squad. It’d be so interesting to see what Pogba and Bruno could do with a top class DM behind them.

Go on the tieleman thread most people agree he is a lazier player to Pogba with less talent.
If you're as good or better than Pogba combining work rate and talent, surely you won't still be at Villa at 27, never played in the UCL surely. Pogba played his whole career at Juve and Man utd and also a permanent feature for a French national team that win a World cup and got to a euro's final.
He has his flaws but Mcginn?
McGinn wouldn't be my first choice but if we want to change tactics to a high energy, high tempo team then McGinn (for me) is better suited than Pogba. The fella is high energy personified for the full 90 minutes and is very rarely injured. Equally comfortable playing as a DM or as a right sided attacker.

Pogba is the icing on the cake but unfortunately the cake Is still in the oven which is why it wouldn't be as hard to replace Pogba as you think. Pogba would be one of the final pieces of the puzzle once we assembled a squad good enough to challenge for titles but as we're far from that scenario what we need now are players prepared to run through brick walls and not players that play for the crowd which is why I'd go for McGinn over Pogba.

Pogba leaves but we bring in Neves and Tielemans? I’d take that. I think we need to be smarter than just spunking 100m on Rice anyway.

No thanks to those two... I'd prefer a pairing like Bennacer and Kamara. Neither Neves and Tielemans are that good defensively, certainly not to be the 6, and neither provide quite enough ball progression and control. Definitely agree we have to be smarter due to use needing a big turnover... But signing 2 above average but not top level or potentially top level midfielders for big sums isn't it IMO.

Should look from the group of Kamara, Brozović, Kessie, Bennacer... Should've went for Guimaraes as well. But there are still options for us to get a perfect pairing with huge potential around Bruno.

Most fans over rate the level of consistency of players of other club, mainly due to the lack of publicity and because they don't get criticized due to their side meeting the level of expectations.
Fred is pressing personified as well, a player like Van de beek was suppose to displace Pogba, You want to know how to rate Pogba, compare him to all midfield signings post SAF, yes he hasn't been as great as expected but there is not anyone bar Fernandes who came close to his level. And that's how difficult it will be to replace him.

You’ll know better than me, but I’ve heard good things about the players you’ve listed. I definitely think we need to spread our budget a bit thinner, do our homework and bring in 2 or 3 names in the midfield. Throwing all of our budget at West Ham for Rice and just getting the one body in would be a disaster in my opinion.

Yeah. Like i love Rice tbh and if money was no object then by all means, spend whatever to get either Tchouameni or Rice. But we need a 6, an 8, a 9, a winger to compete with Rashford (or overtake him if he doesn't step up) just to plug the gaps for next season. Can't afford to spend 100m on a dream DM when we can get a good one with high potential on a free.

Goodness me
Rice- a DM not an 8
Haidara- :lol::lol::lol:
Ward f**king prowse is a worse player to mctominay except for set play.
McGinn- put some respect to Pogba's name, he is a world cup winner, this guy hasn't even played ucl football at 27
Neves- I have no words
Ruiz- who is this Ruiz guy
Barella- he can do a job
Verratti- top player with different skillset to Pogba and not consistent either.
De Jong- he's currently struggling to get game Tim in a below par Barcelona
Bellingham- talented but not up to Pogba, in the future maybe but at this moment he will definitely struggle.
This list overall is laughable, except for a few, and I'm well aware of Pogba flaws.

Trex.....don't get butt hurt about Pogba as it is nothing personal. None of us know him as a person but we see his massive failures on the pitch with his lack of commitment, work rate, end product....you know what he is actually getting paid to do

His age, salary demands and length of contract are the main issues. He's 28 and will want a 4 yr deal at 3-500k p/w. The last 2.5 yrs of that contract, he'll be basically stealing money from United and will tie us up financially from being able to upgrade the CM which we all know is a massive priority.

Let me add this and i hate to say it but the scouse bastards have basically put a blueprint of how to construct a midfield group to make a team successful.

They don't play with a true #10.....they utilize 3 CM's at the same time who all can get on the ball and move the ball effectively but have high work rates and don't mind doing the donkey work so the front 3 have the freedom to attack.

We have clearly seen you can't play bruno and pogba at the same time as neither are very good defensively....we have McFred who don't mind the donkey work and have high work rates but aren't as good on the ball

Pogba in the form he’s shown since coming back is a great asset, but I’d rather we just let him go at this point. One less polarising player for us to argue over would be great.

You gotta laugh. Basically he wants Madrid, they have more pressing concerns to get done first i.e. mbappe and haaland. Then might look at him. So he has to wait Juventus cant give him the wages he wants at present. So he has to wait. PSG is below the other two, so he makes them wait.

Utd? Well if i cant go to Madrid or Juventus or PSG then if they pay me enough money, i might stay.

Cant wait till he leaves. Good Riddance.

I think that most would agree that McGinn is a few levels above Fred in all respects. Would he be good enough to win us titles on his own? Of course not but it could be a start. Pogba has been with us 6 years and we still don't know his best position which to me says he won't be as hard to replace as you think.

Like I said before. If the squad was ready to challenge Pogba would be an integral piece that we could afford speaking footballistically but at this moment in time we need players with character. This team has absolutely no back bone other than Bruno and I include Pogba in that statement. It's the weakest United team I've witnessed in more than 40 years of support and we need big changes. While Pogba may not be part of the problem he certainly isn't part of the solution which is why I won't have any problem when he does finally leave.

Do you think he's worth 500k p/w? Do you think if he does sign for another 5 years that will be the last we hear of Raiola or of him wanting a new challenge? I've never once felt that he's been 100% focused on being a United player in all the time he's been here and for that alone I'd prefer McGinn over Pogba.

Of course he's going to want to see his options before deciding where to go. This is probably his last major contract.

Want you put Fred and Mctom ahead of Pogba?

Honestly it's closer than it has any right to be. Both of them put together don't have has much talent as Pogba has in one toe, but at least Fred offers the energy and pressing we don't get from anyone else, even on his worst day. McT is guilty of going missing a lot himself, and obviously doesn't have the top level Pogba at least shows occasionally.

If you held a gun to my head, over a season I'd probably have Fred > Pogba > McT, but I don't really want to be seeing any of them start for us every week if we're going to be where we should be.

He's going Madrid or PSG. Good luck to him, but we need to move on and should have really done it in the last 3 years.

Alright, here's 10.

Bellingham
De Jong
Veratti
Barrella
Ruiz
Neves
McGinn
Ward-Prowse
Haidara
Rice
Some shocking additions there lad. Does any other fanbase talk down their players so much?

Pogba has shown he can do it for a season [plus] in his playing career, he then moved back here under Jose who was. . . Jose & OgS who was never fit for the job.

Could Pogba have done better? Perhaps but a number of the players you mention are a) nowhere near as good, b) would look god awful here too.

The notion that you remove Pogba & replace with Player X needs to stop, it’s ridiculous.

I bet he'll end up extending his contract because of nobody being interested in paying him what he wants.

Pogba has more respect for the club than that. I reckon he'll end his career in his home country, PSG being the most likely destination.
If Chelsea offer him the contract he wants, he'll be off there without a problem.

Trust me I'm not hurt, but look at that list ehh, you agree with it?
I don't actually think Pogba is worth 500k a week, non of our players are, I'm not a fan of Mino either, but I'm a bit concerned with letting one of our better player go....as for Pogba consistency, no one at United is consistent, only Bruno has shown genuine level of consistency over a sustained period, it a United thing not a Pogba thing.

We have been trying to resign him for 2 seasons, if he wanted to stay and not use us as a last resort he would of signed by now.

is he worth 500k a week? Is he balls, has he carried this United team at any stage for a sustained period of time?

Bruno shows what a quality midfielder willing to take the game by the scruff of the neck can do, he's a luxury player who has Kante doing the donkey work for him for France and he had Marchisio & Vidal doing the running at Juventus.

He has been here for 6 seasons have we seen the best of him? Is it worth the constant circus every international break?

Just get rid pull the contract offer & say on your bike

Could get 3 players on his potential wages, wage bill is a joke as it is don't need it getting any bigger just for one player who turns up maybe one a month

I got pestered for names so I threw out a list of vaguely gettable central midfielders. Pretty much all of which I think would contribute more over a season than Pogba has done on average over his six years as a first team player. It's not "just sign any one of these to replace Pogba", it's that there are plenty of options available who would be capable of giving us more every week than Pogba does 80%+ of the time and mostly for a lot less than whatever £stupid p/w pricetag he's going to ask.

Giving Herrera the money PSG offered him would have been a daft idea, but giving Pogba even more than that based on the return we've got from him in his time here is just crazy.

Don't buy it, mate, sorry.

Despite the ongoing issues with his contract, I always felt Pobga held a certain level of respect for the club and its fanbase. I don't believe for a second he would stoop so low as to join a PL rival.

OK well that's what some relatively credible journalists are saying.
Its fine not to believe them though, not like they're always right. I reckon he'd go because it's his last big contract - so if Chelsea is the only offer on the table then sure.

I don't actually think Chelsea are going to offer the money he wants though - they aren't as stupidly run as we are.

As sad as it is...I think if Madrid go all in for Mbappe...and if PSG don’t throw their hat in...it’s hard to see an option for him that will pay him what he wants other than us or Chelsea. He ain’t a Bayern signing for sure.

United and Chelsea aren't rivals. Even if he loves United to that degree -which I doubt anyway-, it won't be strange for him to go to Chelsea.

I agree with the final paragraph I just don’t see a number of the players you mentioned as being nailed on to provide more in this team. When Pogba leaves it shouldn’t simply be about replacing him, the midfield is broken.

It would be a huge kick in the teeth for both the fans and the club itself if Pogba signed for Chelsea - or any PL rival for that matter - directly from our club. You really can't see that?

It's a moot point anyway, he won't do it. He'll join PSG or a top tier Spanish/Italian club.

I'm sure of it :nervous:

So many United fans are so butt hurt about Pogba that they refuse to even acknowledge his contribution and the fact that he is our best midfielder. This will be his last contract, so its obvious player will want to see every option available to him. We are not in great situation as a club so I guess we are not that easy option when you have PSG or Madrid option available.

Most players are going to do this due to high transfer fee now. It will be funny to see some mental gymnastics if Rashford end up in same situation in few year

I don't see him staying in the EPL, part of his problem is the English press.
He would want to get away from that

This entire thing has the feel of Lebron's "The Decision". It may not have the same soap opera feel as the whole spiel with Jim Gray on live TV did but he does have an Amazon doc that I believe is filming now. So this entire thing could be some contrived thing for content.

He either knows exactly what he's doing or he has Option A but isn't really attracted to anything outside of Madrid. I could see him going to Chelsea if the Madrid thing doesn't materialize. I think the abuse he's gotten from a certain segment of the fanbase could motivate him to stay in the PL. Then again, he may have had enough of the English media.

It would be strange though. He has been at Utd since he was 16. It was only ok when we were casting off players we didn’t want...like veron to Chelsea or when the pool flogged them Torres. Pogba is not in that bracket imo.

I can see it happening if he has no other option though.

It's interesting you bring up the press as I feel it's their negative influence that has some believe he's capable of such a low act. By all accounts, he's a popular guy around the dressing room. I think it was Ibra who said Pogba was one of the most honourable people he'd ever met. High praise indeed.

United fans have swallowed a lot of bitter pills in the post-SAF era, but seeing Pogba join the likes of Chelsea of City is one bitter pill too many. I'm confident it would never happen.
