Do you want Pogba for £100 million?

Jose just refused to confirm or deny that we've signed Pogba. The sweat on his brow clearly means it's on.
"I don't confirm and I don't deny," said United boss Jose Mourinho. "I cannot tell you."

"I don't think it is correct to speak about players of other clubs. My directors did a fantastic work to do 75% of the job I ask them to do. I gave them a few options. We have just 25% to do until 31 August.

"We are in great conditions to have a great market. We are calm. We have three faces to fill the profile. I am confident Mr Woodward will get the player we need to get a good balance."

Well said. Thinking we as fans have or should have any say in the way the club handles money is idiotic. We're customers, not share holders.

It really seems weird how so many people care about the way the club is spending. It's already been shown this isn't even our most expensive deal compared to revenue. Just worry about what's happening on the pitch, because that is what you're actually paying for with tickets, and I'm sure we can all agree Pogba is going to improve that. It doesn't even matter if we could have improved for less, it's none of our concern and we have no say in it. So think of it like this, you're getting to see an extra £100m worth of player on the pitch with you pay for your tickets and no extra cost. You should be happy. It's like getting gold sprinkled on your corn flakes for free.

I don't know if it's the Internet that makes people feel so entitled or what.
If we start to win trophies again these same people will decide it was a good investment

That's as good as a confirmation from Ho-say.

That one is funny because it did happened like that, United were never in the driving seat because United and Madrid made an offer at the same time and Benzema had an agreement with Aulas that 35m from Madrid would be accepted without negotiation.

Really I thought we had our bid accepted first, anyway doesn't stop this pessimistic feeling I have that we are going to be gazumped by Madrid. Will be over the moon when we announce it through official club channels, until then :nervous:

So when Jose says another 25% is required before 31st August does that include Pogba or does it mean there will be other additions?

The bid from United was superior but both clubs came at the same time, probably days appart. United didn't had an agreement with Benzema.

It is Pogba, obviously. How can he mean other additions? We have 3 of the 4 players he wants, which he said is 75% done. 100 divided 4 = 25.

He's saying that we have four targets, we've signed three of them and there's one remaining. Clearly Pogba, but presumably there are alternatives if that doesn't come off.

I got the impression from his presser that the pogba deal was done but i suppose the final 25% is indeed Pogba.

Sounds like Pogba will be our final signing. One or two more signings would have been incredible but can't really complain

I think Mou is talking about core transfers ie players he can't live without. I won't be surprised if we get secondary signings especially if we manage to offload certain players. However they won't be big names

There will potentially be more signings. Jose said in his first conference that 4 was the minimum he needed then there will be players who will not be happy taking a sub role and may want to leave. Then he will have to bring more players in to have balance.

I certainly don't expect Pog to be the last signing. He'll be the last big signing for sure, but I expect one, maybe two back up signings.

Stupid as the money is, this purchase is an important statement of intent for the club. I really hope it happens.

Nope. You, and me, are not paying for this transfer no more than we are paying for the new machine the company who makes our morning cereals invests in.

If you are a stock owner you are paying, or investing rather.

Being in debt is not bad. Being in uncontrolled debt with not enough turnover for mortgage and interest is bad.

Debt as a way to finance investment is essential for a company.

Good post. Barely anything is misunderstood by the general public more than debt.

feck I'm so excited!!! Why couldn't we have Jose in straight after Sir Alex? He was my first choice.

C'mon Pogba come home lad :)

Hopefully, following Calciomentros reports of Raiola accepting the pay cut, we will see a done deal today and an announcement this weekend or next week.

it's not.

we fecked up. OK?
SAF was an idiot.
The board were idiots.
We fecked up.

It's costing us. We'll have to live with it. But let's not throw the baby out with the bathwater. Pogba has every chance of making back his fee. And I'm not taking about fecking shirt sales. I'm taking about trophies, which is the whole purpose of a football club.

This is going to be my default answer whenever I talk to someone about Pogba.

I just love Jose's honesty about this pursuit. There is one target left, we all know it's Pogba, Jose obviously knows it's at the point of almost happening thus he actually does answer the question but uses a non-answer response, it's great!

And who he be the player he is today, given what happened in the last 3/4 years at rhe club?
Good point. Agree with this. He has been the star name at Juve the past 3 yrs at least. No guarantee that moyes would've selected him, could have been frozen out like zaha was. I kno it's embarrassing but I think the past needs to b forgotten because I don't believe there is ANY chance he would b the same player had he stayed

Whilst I'm fine with the fee I saw this response on facebook which I thought was quite adequate.

Do I think Pogba is worth £100m? No.
Does Jose Mourinho? Yes.
How many trophies have I won? None.
How many has Mourinho? End of conversation.

Thank you and same.

I don't know. Some people are not interested in economics, and some people are also quite young.

I bolded what you mentioned that I think is very important to keep in mind as well.

Also that the transfer fee is paid off during the years the player is with the club. Buying Pogba and offering him a 6 year contract is thus much cheaper than buying him for the same price but settle for 3-4 years.

I also think that from a business perspective (ignoring what happens on the pitch), if Pogba over time generates more money than he costs it's very bad business NOT to buy him for £100M or what the figure is. Somewhere on the way there is a breakpoint and if the people at the club thinks the total cost of Pogba surpasses that breakpoint they will not buy him.

Manchester United is a public company. Their only right to exist (from a business perspective) is to make money for their investors. They will not to deals they don't judge being financially successful.

I agree, when he said "four targets" in his first presser, that was in conjunction with his speech on "specialist players". I think some back up/ squad signings are likely, but this pogba deal is the "25%" he's talking about.

You ended the conversation without answering the question?

No that was in conjunction with the 4 identified priorities who are meant to strengthen the team in quality. The specialist speech isn't linked to that.

In the end they all turned out well. OK Thiago is a fantastic player but he is terribly injury prone. The other two fell off the edge of a cliff not long after we missed out.

Well Fabregas would've been a player who could've helped us win the title in his first season. He was the engine in CFC's midfield, that year.
Silver Lining: had we won the title that year, we'd still be stuck with Moyes, who I doubt would've been consistently able to mount a title challenge.
In any case, it's all history, so no point debating it.

Stupid as the money is, this purchase is an important statement of intent for the club. I really hope it happens.
Bringing Jose was the biggest statement for me, It showed finally that the board is determined to get the club back to where we belong. Who doesn't want to play for Jose Mourinho :smirk: except Varane

Seems like Juv are still refusing on paying Raiola. Could reach 140 euro :annoyed: if we need to pay him separately
I don't see how they can refuse, they did agree to this in the contract renewal, no?

Do I think Pogba is worth £100m? No.

This is exactly my way of thinking.

If it goes through the fee is absurd. However, when you think of it (as I saw online somewhere) as effectively two Raheem Sterlings, it doesn't seem so bad.
