Ole stays what does he need to do?

If he stays long term then there is nothing else but a top 4 fight every year, and hoping we grind out a cup competition win once in a while with some luck. For this season though? He'll probably need a drastic formation change to do something but I'm not even sure what that would be, as we're in free fall at the moment and nothing is balancing us. Something like a 3-5-2 once Varane is back?
De Gea
Lindelof Varane Maguire
Wan Bissaka McTominay Fred Shaw
Bruno/Pogba
Ronaldo Rashford

Something like this to make us hard to beat and give us 3 top, dynamic players to spring counters with. And a reserved style of play to close all the holes in defence.

He needs to realise his limits and employ people to take care of the football on the pitch, it's degrading yes but if he truly cares about the club he has to let go of his pride and ask for help.

He's out of his depth, the sooner he realises this the better for everyone, including himself.

I’m not sure he will be here as long as some may think. Not unless we turn it around sharpish this season.

If I’m Ole then I would be looking at the coaches and who they can bring in, what they have now lacks experience to make it work on the pitch with this set of players.

I believe he wants to start playing as a pressing team but these players are incapable, too many who don’t fit that mould, Ronnie, Greenwood, Rashford, Pogba. And of course the coaching is lacking here, it’s a bit of both, wrong set of players and poor implementation.

So I would drop the intention to press, revert to a counterattack setup and try my hardest to get a solid DM in January, if he’s still in the job at that time.

Back to basics and back to what we’ve been good at, it’s less than what we should expect at this stage, I concede that.

Meanwhile the club HAS TO lay the groundwork for who they identify next as the manager to take us forward. We can’t afford to rush into any available manager and give them a big contract.

He's gone. Announcement within the next 12 hours. Watch this space.

Are you trying to get everyone's hopes up? Where is the proof to support your statement? I hope its true but it doesn't look like it given the club is tweeting about him looking ahead to the next 3 games. Now is not the time to get peoples hopes up!

It's irreparable now. If he brought in some better coaches after loss in EL final then maybe this season would have looked different. Now it's too late. Ferguson always adapted and tried to change, even after all the success in 90s.

He needs to ditch 4-2-3-1 as its not working. The midfield is just being bypassed with increased pressure then being put on the defence which they cannot handle. We shouldn't be this open. Better teams such as Liverpool will continue to punish us. We either need to move to a flat 4-3-3 or 3-5-2. It's baffling how lined up so open against Liverpool yesterday.

For the 4-3-3 which is the option I would favour, we need use 3 of Pogba, Matic, McTominay, Fred, VDB and possibly Lingard against weaker teams. The front 3 then should be made out of Bruno, Ronaldo, Rashford, Cavani, Greenwood and Sancho (not really sure Martial features anywhere). When Bruno is playing, it will be as a false 9 and he could possibly play in a 4-2-3-1 if we are playing against a weaker team or chasing a goal. The flat 3 should hopefully give us some stability in midfield which we currently don't have.

For 3-5-2, its a similar mix of the 3 front positions of the names mentioned above however only 2 midfielders will be able to play. To make it more progressive, McTominay could play as one of the CBs as he does for Scotland.

For both systems, we need to work on our fitness and pressing as this is a key element of winning games IMO.

Some brave decisions need to be taken on line ups and people being rotated and left out. I'm not sure whether Ole can make these changes but if he doesn't then we will continue to struggle as we are and he will be out of a job sooner rather than later.

If he survives the aftermath of yesterday's game:

Bounce back progressively over the short term. This means wins and good performances over the next 3-4 games.

Provide evidence that he has learned from being at rock bottom. This means better tactics, preparation and in game management.

Show the players are with him. This can be achieved by the first two points.

I believe he will get this chance, but I think he is not up to it and he will then be sacked just before Christmas.

Delete this. He has to go no matter what.

Drop Maguire he is clearly out of form, errors which lead to goals 10 out of 11 in the last 4 games. How can he be in anyone's starting line up. He's let himself down, manager and the fans down.

Just drop him.

He needs to show some balls and drop some underperformers, that's the only way he can claw back credit right now.
  • Shaw for Telles
  • Maguire for Bailly
  • Bruno for Lingard/Mata
  • Greenwood for Sancho
  • Ronaldo for Cavani (not saying Ronaldo was one of our worst performers yesterday, but he shouldn't be a guaranteed starter)
  • McTominay for DVB
Pogba not being available is a blessing and gives him one less decision to make.

It could backfire awfully, but it can hardly get much worse than yesterday's embarrassment. At least he might claw some dignity back and send a message to the squad that they can't continue to play like clowns, and improve the moral of the second string who've been barely used in the PL and must be wondering what the hell they're even doing at the club.

The other thing he needs to look at is completely ripping up the formation and going with something that totally different eg. 3 at the back, it might come across as desperate but at least it shows he doesn't just have one way of setting up.

Ole and his team arn’t good enough to reinvent the wheel, they have had 3 years and basically they only thing they can coach is counter attack, so In simple terms revert to the tactics were the team looked at its most balanced last season.
Cavani up top, Pogba on the left Bruno in the middle and a quicker player on the right.

We are a team with one of the lowest workrates in the PL, slow and predictable and unable to put pressure on and make tackles. Every top team in Europe has a team that can outrun or run as much as any team. How on earth can United season after season be behind the other teams in basic things like running and expect to be at the top. 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 makes no difference if you have lazy ass players strolling around the pitch, not tracking back or making attacking runs. We all know how Liverpool, City, Dortmund, A.Madrid,Bayern and co play. They would all outrun and outwork us in every game no matter what tactics we have. Yesterday we went out with 4 players against Liverpool that do feck all when defending in Ronaldo,Rashford,Greenwood and Fernandes and expecting a result. What a bloody joke but look at the work ethic that Klopp has installed in Liverpool and Dortmund before that...it´s based on hard work, clear instructions and players giving their all. Not having a United team that can go toe to toe with every other team in the aspect of workrate and effort is just a scandal..pure and simple.

Pray to St Jude, the Patron Saint of desperate cases or lost causes... we certainly qualify in the 'desperate cause' category!

Is there anyone else disappointed that Ole hasn't been sacked today ? I cannot see us getting anything from our next 3 fixtures against Spurs, Atalanta & City.. I wonder if Ole will say to players before our next game.. "It's only Spurs lads" ?

Even then, we were flying by the seats of our pants.
How many times did we have to scrape back a win after going behind?
Teams who overloaded our midfield just walked through us, almost unopposed and there was lots of last ditch defending.
It wasn't just top 4 opposition either. Mid and lower table teams embarrassed us by controlling our games.
Very few of our wins were totally convincing.
Parking the bus and relying on the counter attack will only get you so far and there were plenty of occasions last season when it didn't work.

Yes agree. Should be no excuse for poor work rate however do believe a better system would help. This does need to be sorted.

He’s still here. Sickening. I can’t believe what this club has turned into.

Whether he stays or not the plan this summer should be simple. Just sort the midfield. Ship off Pogba in Jan. Cavanis gone, martial VDB probably as well as Matic and Mata.

2 players - Rice and Tielemans.

After that we’ll have space in the squad to get the likes of Elanga, Amad and Hannibal involved

  • Drop one of the front four for a third midfielder. This 4-2-4 with Bruno playing as a second striker most of the time and both wingers staying high is so naive that Daniel Farke is tempted to try it.
  • Drop Maguire and Shaw for Bailly and Telles. Both have been terrible and out of form. Yeah Bailly is nuts but Maguire has been horrible.
  • Drop McTominay. I don’t want to debate Scott’s merits and what he brings to the team, but he’s out of form and has been hiding.
  • Give up on pressing altogether short term. You can’t become a good pressing team in a couple of games and he needs a good run of results quick. Pressing is not the only way to defend.
Ultimately, long term the above are not good solutions, but they might give him a good run if results in the short term.

Yep we are, look Ole is not the manager who is going to lead us back to glory. Him and his coaching staff simply aren’t on the level of coaches managers of the teams we are competing against. If Ole isn’t going to get fired or leave then he has to go back to the basics.
Which is counter attacks when you can, and when teams park the bus have Bruno and Pogba high up the pitch and maybe one of them can create somthing.
That’s as good as it’s going to get at the moment.

Glazers would probably expect to lose against Liverpool so won`t be too bothered by yesterdays result . Still only 3 points of 4th place so they won`t be too concerned yet. From here on in , Spurs is oles first big test.

There's nothing he really can do to turn it around. For him to turn it around he'd have to transform magically into a good manager that knows how to structure a team, make it play as a unit and have them know what to do at all times. This is something he simply cannot do, no matter how much we pretend. Even if he gets new coaches, and he should but won't, it's always down to the manager at the end of the day.

The Glazers probably have no idea who Liverpool are,.
