Henderson isn't much better in the air. Better sweeping through balls, but a bit small and doesn't dominate his 6 yard box at corners & can be flappy in open play.

I agree DDG is weak in the air, but that doesn't mean Henderson is the answer. I still think there's a question whether Romero should have got the chance in the team ahead of him.

This is my main issue. Yes DDG has a clear weakness, but Henderson isn't much better in that area, on the other hand DDG is on a different level to Henderson when it comes to shot stopping.

All the muppets voting for Henderson. Laughable. DDG ten years of experience. Absolute legend.
I voted De Gea (and before this season started of course) because if he can rediscover his ceiling, he’s unstoppable.

But I do see the argument for Henderson. He’s going to be a very good GK, potentially England’s #1, is homegrown and I cannot see him having another temporary loan stint.

There’s something about De Gea since he’s come back though, he has a different aura and almost looks different. Clear he has the determination to reach his best again and his early performances are showing promise that we’re going to see the De Gea we know best

De Gea had his issues but I dont see Henderson as his replacement. So for me De Gea till there is an issue.

A confident De Gea should be our number one without a doubt.

Henderson will most likely be sold next year and we will get similar money to Ramsdale which isn't too bad.

If Henderson wasn't English he wouldn't be there.

Thank god for that then. United being an English club and having some good English players is great to see.

Especially with Goalkeepers who have a tendency to get better with alot of age and experience- for example van der sar or even Schezeny who is now playing for Juventus, I have hope that Henderson will be like that.

I'd botch it worse, but still

You're right. GKs peak in their 30s plenty.

Agree with this 100%, for most other professional goalkeepers that is a standard catch or punch away, yet against us it's a clear goalscoring opportunity because De Gea is rooted to the line as usual.
To be clear, I'm not saying it wasn't great reflexes for the follow up save, it was, and credit where it's due, but he's got lucky that the first header was straight at him, if it's headed anywhere else then he probably would have just stood and watched it go past him (as has happened on many many occasions before) and then our defenders would have taken all the blame.

I've been saying this for years now, and I stand by it, that double save yesterday is a perfect example of why he's so overrated in the first place. As I said, for most other keepers, a cross that close to the goal is one they would come and claim without much drama (and therefore attention on it), but against us then it's a basically a 50/50 chance of a goal depending on who wins the header, the attacker or the defender.
It's the equivalent of a fireman going around and putting out fires that they themselves have started and then getting labelled as the greatest fireman in the world.

We got lucky this time, but I can guarantee you that if De Gea is reinstated as our number one then our defence will always struggle overall because of his weakness in terms of commanding the box, no matter what defenders we start with. Pulling off the odd world class save every now and again just doesn't compensate for this major flaw in my opinion.
I genuinely hope he proves me wrong but I've been waiting 11 years for this to improve so it's hard to be optimistic about it.
Didn't realize when I watched it live but when I saw the replay, I came up with the same conclusion. It was a weak ball straight into the center of the six-yard box and this was a typical situation where keepers came off their line to claim the cross, as in routine training. And guess what someone was really putting the blame on Varane.

No way that Hendo would save half of Villareal's chance. And later it would be described "not his fault". My point is; United keeper must pull world class saves and DDG is one of the best in the world in that

Even though he obviously cant save every shot, i always feel way safer with DDG in goal.

I know he's had some dodgy spells over recent seasons, which has had people question him, but i never understood the fans that thought he's finished and couldnt get back to good form. The guy is 30, which is barely middle aged for a keeper in footballing terms.

Time to lock this thread. De Gea with a dip in form was still arguably on par with Henderson so switching them would have been a sideways move.

Now, it’s not even a debate.

Oh and shout out to those 255 who never lost faith.

I voted Henderson just to be edgy.

But lets be real here, De Gea has put up a pickete fence and kitchen in the goal area, it's his home.

Now, De Gea has amazing form. He helped Man Utd with many super saves.
