Next PM | #NoMoBoJo | Still hanging around like a bad smell

These debates are pretty pointless imo. It’s going to be Sunak vs Penny/Liz for the final 2 and then there will be a month full of campaigning where a lot of mud will come out

Presumably Tom out tomorrow
Then sky debate tomorrow night with the remaining four ... that is going to be the most brutal I expect as Kemi and truss will be fighting to be the right wing candidate

Tom looks weakest, don’t think Penny has done well so far either.

Think Liz has improved as has Kemi whilst Rishi is the only one being realistic with the economy especially around inflation.

Id imagine Rishi is a shoe in for one of the places and then I’m going for Liz. Kemi with an outsiders chance.

Liz Truss mantra is I get things done. And I have delivered all those trade deals.
Has she?

Her record is - she photocopied quite a few EU negotiated deals
The one with Japan is the EU deal with added cheese - bearing in mind the Japanese don't eat cheese.
The Aussie and NZ deals are still not ratified or in place and are bad for the UK anyway.

That's it folks!

Postwoman Liz doesn't deliver very much.

Tugendhat did well in the debate the other night but was pretty poor tonight, just kept saying the same thing over and over.

He'll be out tomorrow.

I honestly wonder if Truss even actively engages with her brain and thinks critically, ever.

From all of her gaffes and moments of pure stupidity I would say there's a good chance that she doesn't.

We have signed some trade deals... though let's be honest nothing of particular note.

I think for the next 2 years or whatever it is till the next election she would be an utter car crash... probably great for labour though

Compared to Priti Patel, how much of a cnut is Penny M?

It's going to be her v Rishi in the final

I thought Tom and Kemi came across well, I’d like to see one of them get it - just something different really. It’s going to be Sunak though.

This is a trial run for them.

The Tories lose the next GE then the leader will have to resign. Then Tugendhat and Badenoch can come in and push their vision for the future direction of the party. In some ways this would be a "fresh start" for the Tories.

Badenoch is popular with the grassroot culture war obsessed voters, Tugendhat appeals to one-nation Tory crowd. Another ideological battle and hopefully it can be sorted away from No 10 and while they aren't in power.

Definitely too early for them. They’re probably just glad to be getting their faces out there.

Rishi seems under the impression his only danger is Truss. I wonder if that will cost him.

Get Brexit redone.
It's like repainting a living room you were previously hired to redecorate. The first time you did it you promised the owner that it would be a thick matte of red, white and blue with added golden stencils of lions. By the time you were finished two of the walls had fallen down and, because you couldn't get the paint you promised, you smeared your own shite over it. For some daft reason you expect the customer to hire you again.

Is there not diminishing returns on running again after the first attempt though?

No one seemed to want to touch Jeremy Hunt with a barge pole this time round. He felt like old news.

Yeah this debate is set up fo Rishi to win. Theyl all gang up on him, but I am personally finding their grasp on the economy as nonsense.

They want to borrow themselves out of a problem.
Remind me, who's been overseeing the economy for the last 2.5 years?

Yes, for everyone. So how come a) other countries are doing better than us and b) the economy pre COVID was faultering.
Perhaps you can educate me on how the UK economy has fared compared to its European peers. For b), Sunak was appointed as Chancellor a month before covid.

Also you have to look at his competition. The others are pushing to borrow themselves out of a problem.

Which is absolutely fine, borrowing is part of a modern economy.

Why Britain is once again the sick man of Europe The UK is predicted to record the worst economic growth of any major country except Russia next year. What has gone wrong?

I don't think borrowing and cutting taxes is a long term solution to battling rapidly rising inflation though.
On your link too, I'll give it a read, thanks. I'm curious what Sunak specifically could have done differently from Feb 2020 onwards to stop this. Or whether it was inevitability post Brexit + Covid impacts regardless of who was Chancellor.

Is the fact it was a Tory government relevant? Surely you could be motivated to get into politics to make change? And she was a Lib Dem first?
I’m which case she literally said she wanted to get into politics to make a change after seeing the issues a Tory government had caused.

Yeah I don’t see the issue. She became a Lib Dem then crossed over. You could still align with the majority of Tory policies but want to change others.

While that's true, it creates an own goal for herself. If she wins it's an easy point to get at from any of the oppos.

Oh definitely. Agree there. There’s plenty to pull them all apart on, especially those who had a big hand in Boris’ regime. Just don’t see the biggie with the school comment.
