Music suggestions

Some of these have already been suggested but what the hell;

Arcade Fire
Sonic Youth (especially Dirty, Daydream Nation, Goo, Experimental Jet Set... and Sister)
Seafood (especially When Do We Start Fighting)
...And you Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead (especially their Madonna, Worlds Apart and Source Tags & Codes)
Pixies
Explosions In The Sky (instrumental but incredible)
Brand New (personally I'd go for The Devil & God... or Daisy... or Deja Entendu, but never liked their first album)
British Sea Power ('The Decline of British Sea Power' or 'Do You Like Rock Music?')
Foo Fighters (the first two albums only, everything else was shit)
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Metric

and last of all, Astronautalis - nothing like anything you mentioned... kind of like if Modest Mouse did hip-hop, or if Beck was less funky, more nostalgic and rapped.

Never seen anyone else who listened to Crash Test Dummies, try "Death Cab for Cutie".

Sometimes I really like a band/artist and I just can't explain why. Crash test Dummies are one of my favorites. Years ago I used to listen to a lot of Jethro Tull so its probably the folk rock twang I like.

King crimson
Yes
Rush

I used to have all the YES albums but when I do a search on file share sites there are not many MP3s available. Another band I have real trouble finding MP3s for are R.E.M.

I am looking for artists to add to my iPod, and wanted good suggestions. I prefer rock music, from alternative to heavy. I don't mind soul and R&B but it has to be fairly fellow and mainstream for my tastes.

I have about 185 artist on the ipod now, and the following are probably my favorites:

The Who
David Bowie
Sting
Stereophonics
Genesis (early stuff)
Pink Floyd
Peter Gabriel
Dire Straits
Radiohead
Crash Test Dummies

So Caftards any suggestions for me to download.

I have some of all the above artists (except the last) on mine, so I feel well qualified to offer you another!! You've got to have some Springsteen, particularly from the 1972-1983 era (some of his much later albums have still been very good, mind).

As someone else has said, you need some Neil Young as well.

I have over 190 artists and 3000+ tracks now so most of the mainstream rock acts are already covered. Funny thing is nearly every band/artist I really like a lot is non-American.

I fecking love Jethro Tull. Steel Monkey is classic.

Have you tried Alice in Chains?

Neil Young, REM, Springsteen, Cream, Stone Roses. All very obvious I know but you may have just missed some.

If you like bands like Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin, you should give Dirty Projectors a listen. Probably the most experimental indie rock band around, and influenced very heavily by the latter of those bands.

I'll throw in some suggestions...

Skunk Anansie - just reformed and sounding as great as ever.
Joe Satriani - something heavy, but slightly different
They Might Be Giants - off beat perhaps, but still a great back collections of tunes
Faith No More - again back together, no new stuff yet from them, but the back catelouge is worth listening to.

Downloaded a ton of CCR and Bad Company yesterday. Heard a lot of their stuff in the past but never owned any. Actually listened to Bad Company on the way to work today, pretty good.

Anymore suggestions welcome.

"Free" is Paul Rogers first band before Bad Company, you should try them, Cream/Clapton are awesome too.

I listend to Crash Test Dummies, they have some good stuff!

"who put your granny in the granny house?
you did baby! you did, baby"

put a lid on things is a rediculous song but the actual album "God Shuffled His Feet" is pretty good!

I found an old stinking album in a mates house one day, ripped it an was strangely pleased with them, don't really get the song name of mmmm mmm mmm mmmm though.

they are an interesting outfit. pop enough/catchy so you can find them easily accessible but they also have pretty strange lyrics and the guy has such a unique and intriguing voice it makes for interesting listening.

Yeah, its a strange one aright, they kind of faded out after two albums I remember reading, pity, I think they would do well, especially nowadays. Then I would probably hate them.

Wow, I'm not the only one! Some of their later albums had a couple of good songs but they have really gone downhill.

good stuff, I've only got zeitgeist at the moment because I have a terrible fear after loving one album that if I get others they will taint the first one, although siamese dream is calling me and I'll have to dive in at some point.

Man, you are so lucky. Zeitgeist is good and a bit of a return to form, but not in the same league as Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie, and probably Gish as well, which took a while but I now really like. Those first two, though - they are two of the best alt. rock albums ever. I love them
