Moyes So Far!

I still can't figure out why he bought Fellaini. If he was that keen on having him here, why not make a bid as soon as the window opened and Moyes' feet were under the manager's table?

He obviously wasn't that keen on him or he would have grabbed him up straightaway. Counter to what many Moyes haters on here believe but the way it played out makes it plainly obvious

Roma have won 9 out of their first 9 Seria A matches with Kevin Strootman running the show in central midfield. That is a phenomenal start to a season beyond words........Come the end of the season and with a possible finish outside the top 4 .....hope Strootman's not another player that ends up on the long list of what might have been....Moyes really needs to get it right in January to save his dwindling reputation
That's the spirit.

Currently the difference between Moyes side and Pellegrinis is 2 points, the difference in financial investment in the sides is phenomenal in terms of the actual teams. Interestingly the media will still target United and Moyes.

Apart from Munich, City are playing ok (Joe Hart apart) though. We are not playing cohesively whatsoever.

Yeah. It's a nice sentiment, but City were unlucky to lose away at Chelsea and destroyed us in the derby. We've been dirge in almost every game and have struggled at home against bottom half sides. In the same way stats dont tell the whole story, points don't either.

City have played good football here and there but have looked hugely inconsistent, defensively they are a time bomb without VK. United on the other hand have yet to produce a performance of note outside of the Champions league but the signs are there that the performance level can be raised significantly.
It will still be United the media target despite City having a reasonable start and yet a very similar points haul.

I agree City have been inconsistent but that's largely due to their indifferent away form. At home, they have been rock solid and today Pellegrini showed he had the tactical nous to change his approach for a big game and they deserved at least a point away at Chelsea. We have been struggling to string any sort of good performances together and there have been problems in many different areas. I'm hopeful we can put a run together because we are a much better team than the performances are showing and there have been signs of improvement in this run of 3 wins and one draw.

I know everyone wants us to start playing with style but first thing we need to sort out for me is getting the back four and the team defending as a unit sorted. Have that basis sorted and the rest should come with time.

City have looked excellent at home, aside from the Munich game.

Away, they have struggled losing to Villa, Cardiff and drawing with Stoke. There is an indication they are turning it around now with their last two PL performances on the road. If Pellegrini lost Negredo or Dzeko away and went with the same shape as today, I think they would be much more fearsome side away.

Hart and the problems a loss of Kompany causes are also issues with them. Not saying we don't have plenty of issues but City have not had a perfect start to the season. Difference is they look like they are resolving those and ARE the best home team in the EPL at the moment.

What an expensive price for this 'wasn't that keen on' player. 28 million. ;)

Edit: just for the record, regardless the price, I thought Fellaini was a good player to get.

fecking hell.

We should have bought Gervinho as well!

How would Strootman solve our poor link-up play, Nani shooting from seemingly impossible positions despite not scoring from one since the dawn of time, lack of concentration from defenders and overall shot confidences from our wingers?

How is January the deal-breaker when only a very selected few quality players play outside Champions League? Who are these players he should go for who could make a difference? Transfers in January means very little at this point. Getting some form of cohesion going and fixing existing issues with the current crop should be his main focus.

Edit: Grammar.

If he was keen, he'd have bought him right away. This was clearly a "I couldn't get other targets" buy.

It also depends on who is out of the Champions League. Being cup tied isn't the worst thing as our UCL campaign isn't a massive priority this season. If we pay for someone and they can play for us in the league for 3
Months and maybe the FA Cup, then it's better than waiting til a World Cup summer and not having him for those 3 vital months.

He's getting to know the squad more and more. Much improved performances on the way.

cracking win tonight, and when you say 3 wins and 1 draw from the 4 home games in a row not as bad as some would have it made out.

Tonight was what we'd expect from past seasons, long may this continue! With a fair few key players out too.

Ok, I'll be the grinch. It was a great result, but a rather boring and uninspiring game. We didn't actually play any good football until about the 85th minute.

Next step for him is to keep picked teams like he's been doing the last few games, and keep using Hernandez like he's been doing, and not putting Welbeck at striker ahead of him when RVP is out. Not saying he should be first choice because there are Rooney and RVP ahead of him obviously, but he should get subbed on pretty much every game and get plenty of starts too. He should start playing Fabio a lot more as well because he is far, far better then any other fullback we have apart from Evra and Rafael, and he has the potential to get to that level anyway. Also Kagawa should keep getting games and not be frozen out.
So basically keep up what he's been doing the last few weeks but more Fabio please. Happy to see it start working out for him though.

It was a bit boring. Our tempo was very slow which is often the case with us. We take years to get the ball forward (apart from were hoofing) and spend too long struggling to get it out our half.

Ferdinand and Vidic at CB with Jones and Cleverley as CMs will do that with a team.

Still I thought at times we played some good football, mainly whenever Januzaj got on the ball. feck me he's good. People need to stop citing a lack of service when Rooney and Kagawa doesn't deliver from attacking midfielder roles, he just demands the ball and fecking makes them happen - with the service provided mostly by Phil Jones.

Moyes photobomb

Good to see Moyes using the squad and giving people a chance to really show him what they can do. Coming into the job I felt Moyes played it safe, stuck with the 'names', the players with profile. By his own admission that was because, he felt (wrongly), they'd be the best options to get him through the start of the season.

Now though other people are getting a chance. The policy of picking players based on form has allowed the likes of Januzaj to break into the first XI and players around the fringes like Hernandez are getting an opportunity to demonstrate what they can contribute to the side in terms of movement and pace. Evans has come in from the wilderness and there are signs that others might too. Hope so cos I still believe there are some e.g. Fabio who have more to offer the squad and by using the strengths of the players he has at his disposal Moyes may find he can play a more dynamic, better style.

See what I didn't understand, was why did he insist on using Young and Valencia? People were saying he was playing it safe, but what was safe exactly about it? Safer for the opposition if anything. Surely it would be safer to play Nani or Kagawa instead of one of the other two at the beginning, you know because they are better? Everyone knew that those two on the wings would be shite and nobody was surprised by how shite we were. Now we start using creative, attacking players and we start making chances and scoring goals. It's hardly rocket science.

Anyways, I'm glad he's gotten around to using our more talented players more, just hope he doesn't revert back to what he did at the start (i.e. go defensive and play it "safe") when we play away to a top team again.

Another thing that is annoying me about moyes is the excuse that he is still learning about our players, how can you manage in a league for seven years and not know the players of the champions in detail? Was the scouting system that shit at everton? He should have information about our players already considering he is from the same league.

what is with his love for Young? His crossing has been awful all game yet he gives him 90 min, taking of Zaha who needs the minutes and has been miles better.

Its a cup game ffs, he has to rotate and keep the players happy and keep them sharp for whatever may happen. What if we have an injury crisis and only have two wingers yet young isn't fit enough to play 90 min because he hasn't played enough? I'm not saying Young is a good or bad player but ffs, he hasn't got a love in for any of our players, he hasn't started in quite a while and we won 4 nil. So shut up complaining.

You don't think a manager learns more about his own players than those of the opposition?

True but when he came out saying how everyone kept telling him about Chicharito's movement you felt it was either him talking bollocks or the reason we twice beat Everton 1-0 with a Chicha goal. Neither scenario paints him in a particularly good light.
