The West Ham winger has now scored 12 goals in 30 league games for West Ham since joining them at the end of August last season and in 8 of those 30 games he's played as a right back.

He's quick and strong and not bad with the ball but what seems to be great about him is how he times his runs into the box when the ball is being played from the left side. The left backs have a really tough time marking him.

Sam has called him up but not played him yet. I imagine he'll get his England chance very soon. Don't know how many England internationals have played in the Isthmian League.

A true fantasy football hero, despite Bilic's efforts to stuff him at right-back.

He's one of those players that I refuse to rate, regardless of form.

That's how you get what you want. I remember he was whinging about being constantly played at right back, but there's no chance he'll go back there after showing what he can do infront of goal.

I actually think he's only decent at best, but he's a testament to how far pure athleticism can take you. A very honest player and always puts in a shift too.

You'r massively underestimating the mental aspect of football. Players with average talent go a long way because they know the game better. Players that aren't gifted physically know when to pass or when to run or when to tackle go further than the likes of Balotelli that are both very good technically and are physically gifted.

These players will always be underrated but yet often they are every manager's favorite type of player. This guy is closing in on 100 goals in his career as a winger which heavily suggests that he's got a rare ability in football, namely knowing where to be at the right time.

You're also underestimating the advantages that his athleticism brings. He is incredibly fit; he can work up and down. His ability to spring and bravery give him an extra edge in aerial duels. If you put in a half decent cross, he will attrack it. I think he's an average player in many regards, but he plays to his strengths.

Totally agree with this. Typical PL player, raw pace and power. He also has the added advantage of height.
Another similar player is QPR winger Phillips who I think now plays for West Brom. I remember the last time QPR were in the PL, he's also in red hot form scoring and assisting a lot.

A lot of players are as or more athletic than him and don't score goals.

I'm not impressed, he has pace and power and will score goals for a counter-team but he'll hardly break down teams and doesn't have the footballing IQ necessary to succeed for a topclub.

The best 'shit' (he's not) player I've seen in ages. I think he'd make a cracking wing back if he could iron out the defensive side of his game.

He'd be great for Chelsea. Rotational cover for either wing, the 'false 9' spot, and at wing back with added aerial prowess on somebody like Moses.

I agree with that, let him run up and forth on the right wing and he'll do a decent job.

we should buy him and convert him into a RB in a similar fashion like we did with Valencia

We were indeed linked with him just last week. Not sure it's wise to have two RWB's who aren't natural defenders, though. As we saw against Spurs, the bigger and better sides know they can target the likes of Moses due to their height and being uncomfortable defending. Anotonio is quite similar in that he's brilliant attacking but suspect defensively.

For every great attacking performance I've seen him lose them a game by not paying attention defensively. Often against us.

Just a couple of seasons ago he was causing Championship defences trouble with his pace and dribbling, cutting inside from the left wing.

His transformation into this goal scoring right back has been astonishing.

Azpilicueta was the one they were really aiming to attack on the air, which they did for both goals.

Imo he's been one of the best performing players in the league for 18 months now. How can a player who is constantly producing goals and assists as well as causing opponent defence probleme be labelled as average? He is clearly above average, only problem is his age and that his prime is being wasted at WHU. He would give Arsenal much needed strength in their team.

Thats why a team of football needs 11 players on the pitch.
you really are underestimating him. I bet youll say the samething on mane too

Agreed, I had the same argument with Newcastle fans when Carroll was scoring for fun, average footballer but if used in the correct system can be a problem, same for our fellaini

Same way schniederlin looked class at Southampton and Fellaini was a nightmare to play against when he was at Everton.
You need more than just pure athleticism to make it at a top club. Otherwise Michah Richards would still be around
