In replying to your comment, K2K, I do agree that Schweini is better suited to a central midfield role. This means we can use Morgan in the holding midfield role and have Schweini and Herrera. In such a case, I think they can be an effective combination.

LVG says that he prefers a second striker rather than a third midfielder though..Its similar to last season, where Fellaini was a midfielder in name only, and played much further foward...

I actually thought he was fairly poor by Carrick's standards. It's surely more to do with the quality of Scweinsteiger though, he was always going to get in the team.

He had some preseason rust, making quite a few bad passes which are very easy by his own standards.

Harsh on Carrick. I feel like LVG was slowly forcing him onto the bench after his performances. He does seem to find playing with 2 CDM difficult and doesn't always perform to his best.
