Manchester United 0:1 Atletico Madrid (Sat 30th July, 12:45 UK time)

Bloody heck. Ronny Johnsen still looks in good shape to get a game now.

Great to see Rashford looking sharp and up for it. Would be a huge bonus for him to rediscover peak form this season.

Did I miss the memo that we all have to pretend Bruno has been crap when he hasn’t been?
It’s the in thing to bash Bruno around here. Weird lot we’ve got on this forum.

I'm a big Bruno fan and I think he will be fine under EtH but he hasn't been great today. Never shies away from the ball though and always looking for positive passes.

You need to stop fighting this fight. Bruno hasn't been at this club long enough for you to be this attached to him to create your own reality. The guy just isn't very good and that's OK
I’ve rarely seen a post from you that actually makes sense.

Not really. Made some decent runs but his first touch has really let him down this first half. Among them three potentially dangerous situations.

Its fine. Pre-season is meant to make such mistakes which ETH will use it for post analysis and revise the training to make the players improve on such decisions.

It's encouraging that we look competitive against them, Atleti don't seem to do friendlies so it's a good test for our lot and so far so good. Of course there's areas to improve but we're still early in the learning phase so you would expect us to get better while Atleti are about as comfortable and familiar with their system and manager as any top team.

Energy levels are going to be interesting, we've put a lot into that half and I get the feeling we might see a few games where we drop off quite a lot towards the ends of games if we don't find a break through. They'll learn though and become better at managing their match fitness as they play more full games.

I feel Elanga is a bit of a weak link at the moment but he's the kind of player that only needs a good few seconds to turn it around. Martial doing some great technical work to get away from players, just a little off on his final touch sadly but not worried about it, it happens. Malacia has really impressed me, hoping he continues this form and we'll have an incredibly good pair of choices for leftback, really happy with that. Dalot looking good too, Fred excellent, McT brutish but effective. No real thoughts on DDG, Rashford, CBs or Bruno.

Yeah even saw someone calling him to be subbed. He wasn't bad at all, he tried a few passes, some came off some didn't, you keep trying.
Some folks are just ridiculous really.
Just wanting to see how Eriksen does. Bruno hasn't been great either. Guessing people put down all his poor touches and misplaced passes to him just trying.

Yeah, I haven't seen a terrible performance from him that others are claiming. He hasn't been a standout, so maybe that's the complaint? No idea though.
Nah, he's been pretty bad so far. Been sloppy and things have broken down on him. Let's see if he shakes off the bad half in the second one.

I don’t think anyone will be happy unless Bruno gets 100% pass accuracy. He’s playing the hardest position in the team, with the most responsibility to create. He’s clearly not going to get every pass right. I think it’s night and day since EtH came in though, he’s noticeably much cleaner in possession.

The Eriksen on the bench effect ;)

To be fair, there have been a few times he's been easily dispossessed due to being rather slight.

He wasn’t in the game I was watching. Elanga was the only player who was poor. Attacks only really broke on him.

We are definitely the best team. I really like the way we are playing, fluid attacking, we find the space between the lines. Fred is everywhere, Rashford is actually on the pitch today, Elanga got some good skills/running in him - just need the last touch. I like Martial today - but why is he so lazy, i dont get it. Fernandes is probably our worst performer today - too slow in his thinking and again misses so many easy passes.

The shot was so wild it bounced near the end line, span back and stayed in play

That explains it. Looked away for a second and wondered why the hell Dalot made that karate clearance instead of giving it to DdG for a goalkick

I missed the first half - is that Blomqvist?! Almost wrote himself into United folklore during the 99 final :D

I’m not even sure if Eriksen will play the same position for Utd. I’d prefer him deeper. Bruno is still one of our best players.

To call his performance crap would be harsh, but I'm not seeing much of an improvement from last season if I'm honest. He looks... clumsy.

It's a testament to his ability that we hold him to such high standards. We know he's much better than what we've seen from him over the last 12 months.

I’m judging him with my eyes and he’s been our best player since arriving at this club. He’s also been noticeably better under ETH. What a weird hill to die on for a Utd fan.

I think other than pointing out the individuals who have stood out, I think as a unit we have looked good. Off the ball, we have limited Atletico's chances by pressing well. Not only that, but we have dominated the ball and have created some decent chances.

We've basically dominated the ball in and out of possession which I believe ten Hag will be happy about. Just need to be a bit more clinical in the final third.

Yeah, it isn't critical for us if he can shake of it but personally doubt he has the basic technique to be able to be a good enough backup on the wings. Unlike Rashford who, despite now been great, show signs that he can be good enough for us in a rotation role.

I think he’s noticeably playing much safer in possession under Ten Hag.

2nd half will be tougher if they freshen things up. Hard to dominate like the first half against a fully fresh side.
