Luke Shaw: "open" to signing a new contract

Do you expect us to let everyone go for free, picking up a big Jesse Lingard-esque salary and just waiting around in the final year giving no a feck and picking up a massive wage?

Shaw should be extended on his current salary, and then sold if the new manager doesn’t want him. Not a single United player, Elanga aside should be looking at a pay rise.
I'm not saying get rid of him. I meant handing him a new contract on improved terms. No one in this squad deserves a pay rise.

Tierney is better than Shaw

Tierney is the same level as Shaw. You are overrating Tierney bit too much. Some Arsenal fans don't even rate him this season. But that wasn't my post's point anyway.

He can sign a new contract but his salary should stay the same. He only started performing to the level of his wage last season and the form has dropped again.

I don't understand why every new contract (up until early 30s) always has to include improved pay. Why can't it just be along the lines of "Yes we'd like to continue with you but the performance doesn't warrant a rise".

There is no way Luke Shaw should be expecting a pay bump. He's already massively overpaid at £150k a week.

United should simply ask Shaw, and all these other players angling for new deals, who else is going to match the wages they're currently on if they leave? There seems to be a collective delusion about the Man Utd squad about the value they bring.

We're talking about a squad that struggles to finish in the top four on a consistent basis. There are very few elite performers in it and very few of them who are value for the huge sums of money they are on. People have already quoted the Liverpool players who are on less than some of our players, Liverpool players who have actually managed to win or challenge for the title in recent seasons. Not got stage fright in Europa League semis and finals.

Everyone in the squad should be sat down by Arnold and Murtough and told simply: If you can find someone willing to match your wages and pay us an acceptable transfer fee, please feel free to go. If you want to stay, you will stay on our terms not yours.

Lets see if these wantaways can get any other shmucks to pay what we do. I struggle to see the top clubs in the world wanting to spunk £150k+ per week on Luke Shaw.

Sorry but shouldn’t our players be willing to take a pay cut, considering how much of a shot show they have been this year? Luke shaw expecting a bigger contract just speaks volumes of this club and I’m at a point where I’m almost done. Biggest wage bill in the league and absolutely miles away from the best team. Embarrassing

This is an excellent point that I had never considered, thank you. I'd always assumed that when a player renews with us he's always going to get a pay hike. But you're right, we should be saying to their agent. Look, they're already overpaid in comparison with other top left backs in the league and we want a more grounded wage structure. If you think you can get him more than 150k a week elsewhere, then by all means let us know and we'll look into a transfer for him and get in someone else on 80-100k a week.

Well, too bad because United is closed for business with 1st team squad players given recent performances.

Should of been sold years ago, 1 good season in 8 now, pathetic player.

But he will 100% get a new contact because this club loves to reward failure.

Open to staying - grrr how dare he, underperforming etc
Wants out - grrr how date he, underperforming etc

Shaw isnt good enough for United end of story. He has had one good six months in eight seasons. That's Uniteds problem, handing out big contracts when we should be letting these lazy, inconsistent players leave and say good riddance. If we hand Shaw a new 5 year contract on 200k a week how in the hell are we going to sell him. No other club would be stupid enough to give him those wages.

He shouldn't be on 150k either at the moment.

We are talking about players here who can't even make the top four, never mind challenging for the title.

Last season he was fantastic, but this season he has been absolutely dreadful.

He has been here 8 years and has had a maximum 2 good years out of that.

Last season, and that season he broke his leg against PSV.

Not good enough, like so many of our players.

then he just refuse to sign the contract offer and leave for free? (while playing total shit on his last year)

Sell him .…he’s underperformed too many times.

What kind of employment is this where you can demand a pay rise for performing worse than expectations?

The sentiment of this is absolutely right but of course the reality is rarely correct. Both he and the club know he can get a pay rise somewhere else if he leaves on a Bosman, so the club have the choice, give the pay rise to protect the asset or say you don't deserve it and watch him walk away for nothing. United's certainly not the only club with this issue.

Decent player and one I'd keep as losing him for a free would be stupid......... Providing he signs a contract at the same level or ideally less. He hasn't earned a rise.

Amen

The fact that Maguire, Rashford and Shaw have all looked a shadow of their former self is something I hold a little bit of hope for next season.

then he just refuse to sign the contract offer and leave for free? (while playing total shit on his last year)

So you give him £200k a week for another five years, making him unsellable? Meaning if he is unable to produce his form from last season, his first really good season in the eight years we've had him, that we just have this expensive deadweight?

If he wants to leave on a free, then we should let that happen. Ultimately its better value that giving Luke Shaw double Andy Robertson's wages. Luke Shaw is not double the player Andy Robertson is.

 No it's not. If anything it's a good reason that he stays at 150k if Tierney is on 110k.

No one is taking Shaw over KT, regardless of their wages.

But if you actually factor in the wages it's a complete non-discussion.

They will be sulking after the WC. So its another season where they are no use to us. Get rid of all three in the summer.

He is a good enough player to keep. We can't sell everyone!
Sadly this is why I'd keep him. But he has to up his intensity. It's weird buy he barely makes overlapping runs. You sit back and play pretend playmaker all the time.

As long as it is stipulated in his contract that he takes a 25k pay cut per goal the team concedes directly from him falling asleep at the back post then he can stay

He wants binning.

At a push. I'd offer him 50k a week, with the rest based on games played and performances related bonuses.

Club should look at Ait Nouri to replace this useless lump.

The club can’t replace an entire squad in one summer BUT if United feel they need a new LB then Shaw shouldn’t be given a new contract.

Telles isn’t the long term answer either but he is fine for a Top 6 club.

I don't understand the thought process behind wanting to keep a player that's such a defensive liability and now looks uninterested offensively, if only they'll take a cut in pay.

What you're essentially saying is that you're fine with mediocrity here just as long as ownership doesn't have to pay as much for that mediocrity.

I'm sorry, but no. If we're ever going to win the league and fight for trophies, Shaw is the exact type of overhyped, consistently underperforming, weak-willed, and, yes, overpaid footballer we need completely rid of. Of course he's interested in another fat payday here, where he does nothing to earn that. Literally no other club wants to pay these fools what we're giving them.

Giving him a massive pay rise when he is not performing to an acceptable standard is daft.

If he has two years left though and is being a big time Charlie about it then screw him, if we can't find a better left back in two years who is not as unbelievably shit as Luke Shaw as a replacement, then it's time to shut up shop.

Not exclusively to LS, but we really need to stop paying such stupid relative 'wages' to the industry. That's 1 reason why we have had too players clogging up the club pipes for players to move around. They're blocking fresh blood from the youth and lack of transfer activity espesh in Cmid.

Necessity is the mother of all inventions and if there is no necessity to blood in the growing youth because the older players are too comfy on ridiculous contracts, then it leads us to where we are now.. So please let us stop paying stupid high wages ffs.

On another player, Pog can go get fcuked for rejecting the contract on the table. And I'm happy to not have the club held to ransom. Shaw can get fcuked too if his attitude is accurately represented by the title in this thread.

I'd extend him with the same wage.

If he turns it down, then good luck to him finding a club that will play him £150k.

We should definitely extend him on the same wage. We can't afford to make any serious moves in LB right now with all the potential summer departures and holes in the squad.
