Barc had no Puyol, Pique, Iniesta or Ibra

Barca's defensive back up is very strong. Marquez - who is a very capable and experienced centre back. Same goes for Milito. Other thing is, at home, they were never likely to be under the sort of pressure that would test out the understudies.

As for the attacking players you name - good, yes. But they still had Xavi and Messi.

Arsenal were shorn of a big part of the core of their side.

Fantastic performance. Simply stunning. A little too early to judge him against the likes of Maradona and Pele though.

Some clever dick will have noticed Xavi didn't misplace a pass all night and give it to him instead!

I agree with this.Messi is the MOTM because of the goals but for his general impeccable contribution I'd give to Xavi. He's their maestro, his movement when receiving the ball just to put his body between the opponent and the ball should be taught in football schools.Outstanding midfielder

119 goals in 204 games, 48 assists. Devastating player. Always plays with a smile on his face aswell which is good to see.

RedKnights should try and buy Messi instead of the club.

Shouldn't discount the importance of Xavi and Iniesta to his success though, they're both a key part.

Without qustion, the Barca team provide Messi with the fundamentals to do what he does and he constantly acknowleges it, without them he wuldn't be the same lad. It's time Maradona decided how to give Messi a similar platform for Argentina because the national side is not short of cracking players themselves.

Wow.If he keeps up with more or less the same rate for the next 6-7 years how many goals could he score for them ?

The only thing he needs to do now to be remembered up there with the likes of you know who, is dominate a World Cup, like Maradona in '86, Zidane in '98, me in 2018.

Zidane in 98 "just" scored 2 vital goals in the final and had overall a decent tournament. His 2006 tournament was better

Zidane was at his best in euro2000, imo.

I don't think the Argies are getting enough respect going into this. Everyone is harping about how Maradona will cock it up, but i think Messi is going to carry them this time.

that last goal he scored, he reminded me of Best and Maradona.

I know Argentina just scrapped through to qualify, but if Maradona sorts out his defence, they will take some stopping. Feels almost like the 86 Maradona Finals.

Messi is but one player.

Spain are favourites IMO, with a team consisting of Xavi, Iniesta, Torres, Silva, Senna, Casillas etc it'll end up stronger.

It's true, and Spain beat them earlier this season looking quite comfortable but Argentina have the potential, it just needs Maradona to pick the right players and create the perfect platform for Messi to his thing instead of having to pick the ball up so deep.

This is where Maradona's tactics truly must play a part.
