Lee Mason

It took around 4 replays and a freeze frame to conclusively say the second was outside. Hard to blame the ref for that when it was moving so fast and the players fell into the box.
To be honest even I don't have a real problem with the second.

Still, another decision going against us. And it probably wouldn't have come about if he'd correctly not given the first...

How was the first not a penalty? Whatever the distance, the unnatural positioning of his hands was reckless.

It doesn't bloody matter if it was unnatural! Unnatural does not equal deliberate. Anyway thinking about it, that was the lino's fault.

How was that a foul on Hernandez what a joke

Another bogus foul on United this time Valencia

Sorry, are the spastics now trying to claim this was some kind of uber-jinxy-ironing thread?

Bum-Spazzers

Like I said, Lee Mason did his job. It's painful when it's against us but beautiful when it goes our way.

Two, maybe three bogus penalties in a game. Did his job, I guess the standards have gone down or the job has changed.

Well, he didn't really have a choice regarding our pen as the linesman flagged for it, if not he would not have given us a pen.

I guess West Ham would be complaining that he didn't send Vidic off and we'd be screwed for decisions in the next game

What a stupid thread, Mason was excellent today, if anything we got the best of his decisions, Vidic didn't get sent off and the handball for our penalty was far less blatant than Evra's.

...and wrong. Over the course of the same game.

He was just being consistent, if Evra's was a penalty then Upson's had to be. Same with Vidic not getting booked in the second half, Da Costa got away with worse in the first half. He was consistently shit (although an argument could be made for or against any of the major decisions) but there's no way we benefited from it in the least. I worry now that the inevitable media storm about Vidic not getting sent off will make it even worse.

Agree with the bit in bold. It's WHU that should be complaining.

I think the Vidic yellow was just about right but no way was our pen a pen.

 that peno to put west ham up 2-0 was ludicrous. Imagine the shit storm that would have ensued had United gotten a freebie peno a 1-0 up

You don't get sent off for what Vidic did, he didn't stop a goalscoring opportunity so last man or not the point is moot. Evras and upons penos cancelled each other out.

Why no mention of the second west ham "penalty"

I don't see why people are making out the second penalty was a farce. It was ridiculously close decision that I'm still not sure if it was correct or not. Obviously first contact occurred outside the area, but it could easily be said that the contact continued inside the box before Cole went down. I seem to remember us getting a very similar penalty last season (or maybe it was a case of us only getting a freekick when everyone on here said it should've been a penalty).

Our penalty was definitely more debatable. I would've been absolutely pissed off if that had been given against us. His arms were down right near his body and he didn't have time to move them.

I thought both West Ham penalties were right on initial viewing. Second one turned out to be outside the box but it was a tight call and looked inside from where Mason was standing.

Our penalty was slightly lucky but the defender leant into it slightly. Thought that was a borderline call.

Vidic yellow he probaby got right (couldn't have blamed him if he'd shown a red), plus both the second penalty and the foul in the second half should have been yellows.

So in summary, only thing I reckon the ref can really be blamed for is not sending off Vidic. Some of the other calls were hard to make even with the aid of slow motion replays.

It was just so predictable that if there was going to be a controversial decision inside the West Ham box it would go our way. That's just the way ref thinks when he's awarded the other team two penalties.

Did Evra deliberately handle the ball? No, it hit his hand, which he tried to withdraw. No penalty.

He deliberately had his hands up in the air where they shouldn't have been , so obviously when Cole plays the ball and his hand stops it, the ref interprets that as deliberate handball and gives the penalty. It was stonewall, you're making a dreadful argument mate

The generous one was ours, Upson had his hands where they should be i.e. by his side. We're probably due a penalty but it was pretty harsh. As snow says, when you've give two to the other side... always that much more likely to go for you, human nature

The decision I couldn't understand was not booking Hitzelberger first half for his chop from behind when he never had any chance of getting the ball. Poor
