I've decided to get a PS3

Get yourself Warhawk and Street Fighter IV and we can be best friends.

Play.com - 250gb slim with FIFA 10 for £250. Don't know if that's a good deal though, as I'm not familiar with UK prices in general.

That does seem quite reasonable.

Wait until after Christmas though, prices will more than likely drop.

Amazon:

PS3 Slim 120GB Console
+ Free HDMI cable
+ Add a top game for just £5
(Game selection includes Need For Speed: Shift and FIFA 10)

£244.69 + incl free delivery

wise choice, go look at the damn bundles yourself....

I just bought a ps3 slim 250GB as a wedding gift (very close friends). Was quite tempted to keep it for myself though.
Needles to say, he loved it and his wife didn't. So it's not the perfect present for a wedding.

Hope my experience in this matter helps someone.

I think the Slim is backwards compatible with PS1 games.

No. Not on the latest models, and the early PS3 models that did have backwards compatibility come at highly inflated prices.

If the GOW Collection is anything to go by, it seems the way they have chosen to go to make money out of it is instead of putting PS2 games up on the Store, they are going to remaster them and sell them again in HD. It's not been revealed how they have been doing it exactly, maybe some form of SDK and Compiler add-on specifically to make the job nice and quick. GOWI and GOWII are said to have been ported to the PS3 in 15 weeks for the two. If it sells well, and it's getting some very good reviews, I think that is the model we will see going forward.

Wise choice, try Sainsburys I think they had PS3 Slim with new COD and Fifa 10 for 200 and odd.

I'd quite happily pay for GTA 3 Vice City and San Andreas to play them on my ps3 again. Although in saying that, I could always just buy a ps2 for $99 here.

I have this offer: PS3 60Gb - £195. Apparently not much used.
I know this is the oldest model which consumes quite a lot of energy, makes more noise, heat etc.
Anyone got this? What's your take on it?

I have one, so does Elvis. Launch models seem to be a little bit hit and miss, some are noisy, some are not, some have died (early Blu-ray drives are a little fragile it seems), mine hasn't - yet! :nervous:

You get 4 USB slots, a memory card reader, and it plays PS2 games. :)

The chips inside it are almost double the size of those in the slim, thus the power and heat (causing the fan to chuck a fit every now and then).

basically it's not really worth the risk, is it

I don't own any ps2 games that I might want to play, card reader would be a bit useless since I've got one on my computer
4 usb slots are a nice feature though.

I've decide to pass on the offer and will look for a newer model.

I've got a 60gb ps3, its my second though as my first one kicked the bucket and Sony had to replace it. I'd be gutted if this one died too as I like my PS2 backwards compatibility (Final Fantasy X  ) and 4 usb ports, and it'll cost loads to get it fixed.
