You know, those loud black boxes, with Modern Warfare 2 and Forza 3 for £199.99. Now I'm not a fan of Forza, but I could always trade that in if I wanted. But I'm going to be paying £45 for MW2 anyway so for an extra £150 I can get the console. Plus I want to play Mass Effect as I've heard good things.

What say you?

Mass Effect is brilliant. Its kicking about for 8quid pre-owned now, and the new one is out in February. The sequel looks amazing so far. If you can afford it why the hell not. I've a 360, but im tempted to buy a PS3 for MGS4 and Killzone 2.

I read this on the front page i and thought maybe the World has stopped turning....

Now that you mention Natal, I have a conspiracy theory. ;)

When Natal appears, I am expecting Microsoft to do something similar to what Nintendo has done with the DSs and Sony has done with the PSP - hell, Nintendo has done it with the Wii, in that, I expect a totally new XBox (at least from the design perspective) model with a new name (it will not be called 360). It will also have Natal built in. How far they then go to expanding its capabilities I could not guess, but it would not surprise me if they added extra RAM, GPU bandwidth, etc. The same game will run on both the new machine and the old machine, but you will be able to expect higher performance and possibly extra features on the XBOX N3.

They are due a serious hardware revision in any case, as in the PS3 Slim, and I think that it will all be done at the time Natal is launched.

This is a good shout, it will be called the 360n or something like that.

It's worth it to play Mass Effect, and also Fable 2.

Lost Odyssey is another cracker, very much in the Final Fantasy mould and very well done. Star Ocean as well, the voice acting for a few of the characters is awful (mainly the female characters, kay?) but it's a very enjoyable RPG with a button bashing battle system that was simple yet fun.

Just looking it seems the majority of their exclusives are RPG's, Inifinite Undiscovery might be one to avoid though. I played through a ways and it wasn't that great.

Star Ocean isn't an exclusive any more, it's coming out for PS3 in Feb. Mass Effect you can play on the PC.

If you do, buy fable 2, or your new acquisition is pointless.

You can get the same deal with Game but they were doing COD MW2 and Fifa 10 rather than Forza 3.
I went with the Forza 3 deal becuase it has a higher trading in value.

You missed my white text!!!

I have an Elite with Forza 3 and can honestly say despite it being a great game I hardly ever play it for some reason, and its just noisy....excessively. I will get into Forza eventually I think, I hope.

If you have lots of space on your hard drive, install the game to it and it wont make any noise (well, hardly any).

I have an elite, still sounds like a jet taking off.

Go for the bundle deal, Mass Effect is only a tenner or so on Amazon anyway.

Install it? You mean the 2nd disc?, I have. The console itself is just noisy, I would say its probably down to my desk or something but my PS3 is sitting next to it and incomparison is a gagged mouse.

Wouldnt be put off just because its noisy though, Im just saying.

No not the second disk, you can install the whole game so it doesn't read off the disc (which I guess is what makes the noise since it's pretty much silent now). You can do it with any game.

When you have the disc inside, go to "My Xbox" -> "Game Library" -> Choose "Forza Motorsport 3..." -> Then choose "Install to hard drive".

Then when you want to play whatever game you've installed, make sure you have the disc in so it can check you actually have it, and after that it'll make hardly any noise at all.

Goes to show how much I use my 360 when I didnt know it even had this feature.

Nintendo have changed the game, or at least moved the goalposts significantly. They have shown that the mass market doesn't give a shit about graphics and sound, they are happy, well, with something else (yes, even an overclocked Game Cube). As for the hardcore, outside of the PC nerds, they seem quite happy with what they have at the moment. So, in that regard, I see absolutely zero need to have a total hardware revision anytime soon.

Nintendo will release a more capable Wii within 18 months IMO, but it will probably at best be comparable to the 360 as is, probably less. Microsoft have this opportunity to relaunch a new revision with Natal - a simple add-on will not work, and Sony has its wands. With Sony I can see an upgraded machine as well, totally backwards compatible, and then an add-on for PS3 to make it exactly the same in terms of feature set, and that will be done though the gigabit ethernet in similar way that they have shown multiple PS3s running GT5 at silly resolutions or silly frame rates.

No need for 720 or PS4 for a very long time.

If Sony were right about their estimate of 10 years for ps3's life cycle then it should be another 6 years before we see the next one but it could be even longer, if as you've stated before that the PS3's potential hasn't been tapped into yet...at all.

How many years do you think it'll be before we see the PS4? and will Sony be rushed into releasing the PS4 if microsoft (As expected) can't keep up with the PS3's power and have to release the 720?

I think that the base design for a PS4 is already done, and working, they just need to drop in a current level GPU at whatever time that is. They didn't put half a billion dollars into the Cell CPU for nothing, that just gets scaled up (with a bit more RAM for each local SPU store - talking maybe 2 PPU cores and 32 SPU cores), then they plug in a current GPU and give it a FlexIO bus, job done. PS4 will be very cheap for Sony to develop.

I'd say 2014. Depends how Microsoft move. We'll get this upgrade thing in the middle though.

On the GPU side, I think it's tapped, they can't do much more with it, it is an old known PC derivative part with some modifications. They cannot push RSX much more. What they have to learn is how to use the Cell, and how it can help the RSX and do other things, and it's on that level where I don't think they have a clue. The first parties are getting there though. But they have the time to feck about with it.

My 360 is dead, its a 0 day console. Im going to buy the LE Modern Warfare 2 console tomorrow, and if i trade in 3 games i can get forza 3 for free. So im going to trade in COD 4, COD world at war and Forza 2 woop. Console is an elite with the Modern warfare casing, 250gb hdd, 2 wireless controls modern warfare 2, saints row 2 and assassins creed for 599 AUD.

Ah yes, i forgot that Mass Effect was on Pc, but then again i wouldn't like to play that game on a little PC monitor.

And i had no idea Star Ocean was coming over to the PS3, it's a quality game if you can get past the voices of nearly all the female characters. It's helping pass the time to the release of FF13 and when i need a break from CoD.

I own both an Xbox Elite and Playstation 3 and both are fantastic consoles.

For me, I play on the Elite far more because all of my friends & family use Xbox Live, I prefer the Xbox controller and games like Fable 2 and Forza 3 are awesome. I generally only play the PS3 when I fancy a game of LBP with the wife or we watch a Blu Ray movie in bed.
