How well would Ighalo have faired in this system?

& people still defend our previous managers transfer record

The problems with this team are fundamental, I don’t think a player here nor there changes much.

Just quoting a post I made in a previous thread, it’s mad how we’ve only signed one striker in their peak/about to hit it, post-RVP:

That's a pretty damning list isn't it. I think we looked for every excuse not to spend on a striker given their cost so we just hoped one of Rashford, Martial, Greenwood would eventually save us the money.

Not worked out well.

Ighalo is an overall average striker. Stop overrating average players.

He was better than Lukaku for us.

He scored 5 goals in 23 games and barely played when it mattered. The 5 goals were in Fa Cup and Europe League.

The obsession of United fans with average players is so weird. He was just an average stop gap loan.

Just when you think everything that can be discussed has been discussed.

Ighalos hold up play vs City in the build up to McTominays goal in the last game before lockdown is the best bit of #9 play I’ve seen at Utd since RVP won us the title.

Ighalo, despite not being as mobile and fit as the strikers we currently have, had better link and hold up play, which is something we really need.

Ronaldo has been a lot better in recent weeks, and as a result, we've created quite a few chances.

I think Ighalo did well and it was nice to see someone play for the club who truly loved it.

Ighalo was not a world beater but I remember his first few games for us and if was a breath of fresh air seeing him take on a man and getting on the end of things.

He didn’t score boat loads but he scored a fair amount and a few rather important goals.

Now our front line (basically just Ronaldo as Cavani is always injured) how well would Ighalo have faired in the Rangnick set up. Could he have been our super sub this season? Not expecting Ralf to have hypothetically benched Ronaldo for Ighalo but as an option, I think he’d have scored more than he did under Ole.

The RR pressing system is not about single individual player following his instruction, it is about the front 3 or 4 players constantly pressing, the MF 2 cover their space, and the back 4 push up to cover the gaps. it is an entire team that do their part, that's why we failed to execute his plan because only a few would sweat.

Ighalo would run and press for sure, a hard working player, but not enough on his own. On the other hand, he would probably be a better fit than Rooney under Moyes, with those Century Cross into the box. I am sure he would get a few on target.

We are pretty much a midtable team these days, though. So those players are actually a good fit for us.

Ole and his mate trying to squeeze every penny from the club to line up their pockets with this transfer. So much for rebuilding shit

God he was a weird as feck loan at the time. Almost signalled the true levels we had dropped as a club

Nah he was fine for 6 months as a relief striker. The weird part came when we extended his loan in the summer. It's summer go get a proper striker for ffs.

I have scored as many Premier League goals for Manchester United and he played 12 times as a striker for us.

He really wasn't up to it - a desperate throw of the dice that showed how badly we have been managed.

I think at least for some of the post SAF seasons we’ve been buying experience to augment potential. We’ve had some big talents coming through since Martial signed and Rashford had his breakthrough season under LVG. It’s not like we haven’t invested there but we’ve gambled on a few young guys and it looks like every bet is failing.

We haven't made a successfull long term striker signing since Chicharito.

100%,

It's a shame Cavani is always injured this season, last season he scored on a fairly regular basis 26 games 10 goals in the prem. A goal every 3rd game there or there abouts, can't go wrong with that. Granted a striker playing for United should have a goal every other game stats, you're not getting a goal a game unless you're prime ronaldo/Lewan/Messi.

1 in 3 is abysmal
