Have you mentally checked out for this season?

Yes. I am refusing to get my hopes up that we can finish 4th or higher, or that suddenly the team will gel and we'll start playing effervescent football. I will still watch every match but with reduced expectations.

Tbh I have mentally checked out since the MG disaster, still not over it. And our performances since have been awful (not that they were better before) so nothing encouraging at the moment. Will always watch games and so on, but I am not excited or nervous anymore when we play. At least it’s good for my health.

Not mentally checked out and never will. I got to enjoy the glory years and sadly most clubs go through periods like this over the course of their history but what kind of fan would I be if I reveled in 20 years of trophies and then packed it in when the going was tough only to come back when we get good again? I do have sympathy for my oldest though, he first got really interested during Jose's first season and got to see us win 2 trophies and he thought that was how it would always be, he has had a tough road since then especially as his best mate is a Chelsea fan.

I still have hopes but those might be dashed by the end of March. I've yet to see Ralf against a big team and i'm hoping for a park the bus Jose masterclass or an LVG-esque controlled display of dominance

I could be severely disappointed.

You would have to be delusional to risk any emotional or intellectual capital on this group of players. So yes, yes I have.

This great club feels like it's been set afloat, and we as fans are clinging on waiting for a passing ship to spot us. I feel so cold and weak, I'm trying not to let go.

lot to take in over past 12 months;

superleague fallout
Ole clueless with embarrasment of riches
DNA, gets the club xyz
McT the new Keane
Liverpool 5 nil at old trafford. Ole not sacked
City humiliation at old Trafford. Ole not sacked
Watford 4-1. Shit we have to sack ole even though we dont really want to, do we have to?
See a glimpse how manager wants to play, gets scrapped as players too dumb/lazy to carry it out
Some players turn on new manager in a matter of weeks
Leaks like a sieve. Ole the reason rashford can only cut inside and knuckleball shots into shins, Jlingz team mates want jesse for captain
Greenwood scandal
Martial/ Lingard he said/she saids
Getting out played by everyone we play

I think people need to get their mental health/life in order if you are "checked out" because the season isn't going like you had hoped.

Until we are knocked out of the Champions League and 4th place is mathematically impossible the season is still alive.

By the end of March we will have more of an idea what our chances are.

I have a sneaky feeling we will finish the season strongly - or am I deluded? :nervous:

Yeah, a while ago. Still watch all the games but not too upset/bothered if we drop points.

I checked out mentally from domestic competitions, I have little interest as I don't believe we're going to make it into top 4. Champions League will be a breath of fresh air though.

Yes; I’ve forwarded my tickets to friends and written off the season.

those McGuire runs remind me of rugby, run to nowhere get tacked. The lack of intelligence in the team is shocking

I’m spending 2-3k for this? I could be eating at Michelin star restaurants every month

I can't not give a shit about games against the likes of Leeds, City and Liverpool. And I'm still (foolishly) optimistic that we might mount a late season rally but that could be dead within 2 weeks.

I’ve already accepted we won’t make top 4 and certainly have no chance in CL. I try to watch the matches, but they rarely bring satisfaction these days. Just wanna get to the summer and pray we do something right, but I know we won’t.

I started following United in the late 80s, so mid table finishes aren't new to me. Even a United pre-season friendly interests me more than a world cup final, so mentally checking out of the season would mean checking out of football entirely till the summer. Doubt I can do that.

Yeah as soon as the Glazers didn’t sack Ole after we lost 5-0 to Liverpool then nothing else mattered to be anymore. If they don’t care then I don’t care too, won’t be buying any merchandise.

Almost there I think, once we get knocked out by Atletico then season is practically over.

Also the fact that city and Liverpool keep winning everything in sight isn't helping with my malaise with football right now

I'm really looking forward to each game week. I'm also looking forward to watching the youth team knock out fixtures against Dortmund and Leicester in the Uefa youth league and FA youth Cup. And whether we make the top 4 or not is irrelevant to me because i'm excited to see how things evolve with a new head coach who will hopefully come in and work with the clubs newly formed recruitment structure, rather than what we saw before where the likes of Van Gaal, Mourinho and Solskjaer would state in interviews about them handing a list of transfer targets to the board. And they (managers) did that by being afforded the control on the football side of the club as well as having the luxury of having their own scouts.

The first time in our history we're gonna go into a new season with a DoF model, and the DoF has a team with him that has vast experience both at home and abroad. People like Court and Lawlor at home and Bout and de Regt abroad. And then we'll also have a assistant coming in who will add to the group working with Murtough and the aforementioned four. And that assistant could be someone from one of Rangnick's previous clubs, people like Christian Mockel or 35 year old Christian Vivell who is currently assisting the RB Leipzig DoF, Krosche. So for myself i'm intrigued to see how things develop and i'm very upbeat for all our teams from the youth to the first team.

I also understand people being frustrated with the season after the signings we made in the summer. But for me we're gonna make strides now and the structural setup gives me a lot of hope for the future. It's not gonna be easy with Chelsea, Liverpool and state backed City to contend with, and there will be bumps in the road. But as long as we streamline the football operations, then i'm very optimistic about our mid to long-term prospects. But we need the head coach to come in and click with the decision makers on the football side of the club.

I'm supporting my team and watch every game.
If you "check out" because your team isn't winning, maybe you should change team or sport.

I think i've just mentally checked out of football since the Greenwood story. I watch it but have no positive feelings towards anyone involved at this point.

In the league yes, when we go out of the CL then it is just wait for next season. If we're off the pace for top4, we're not lucky enough to do what the scum did last season to get top 4. So yes but still watching painfully

If you still come here to comment, then you haven't checked out. A couple of wins and you can't wait for the next match day thread.

Why would anyone be posting on here if they've 'mentally checked out'? You just don't like that we're not very good, no one does.

No, not yet. I still want to watch the games, I still look at the tables And assume a game in hand = 3 points to everyone.
I truly don’t see how we can compete with the other in a top 4 race with arsenal (at a push) spurs, West Ham, wolves. With 1 striker and seemingly no able impact players on the bench.

Give the kids minutes

The sort of thread that rival forums will look at and laugh at the comments. An absolute embarrassment. Instead of 'checking out' try 'fecking off'

It’s impossible to check out
I even want us to win a friendly game and I can’t check out from that
I know we are struggling at the moment so don’t expect us to win but I’m still emotionally attached
I just hope it gets better next year

Easier to say when I've been fully checked in since SAF. (Ole's caretaker run and Bruno's first half season)

I haven't checked out, as such, but I do feel that every year we are going to write-off the season before it really gets started.
Next season is already a write-off because the new manager will need a year to assess the squad and train the players to play his way.
I'm pretty sure the season after that will also be a write-off, but I don't yet know the reason.

We all know that the club is run terribly, but it doesn't help that fans are accepting of our pitifully low standards.
We are currently struggling to score more than 1 goal per game, against minnows and many fans are quite happy with that.
When we play the better teams, I expect to get spanked.

I’ve checked out of next, to be honest.

The prospect of making it work under Ole really got me invested again. I wanted it to work and the project actually mattered. It also failed. It failed badly in the end. For a period of time, however, I looked forward to matches again and actually had somebody to root for.

Whoever we bring in next season is just going to be another man, with more ideas that are probably not going to work. Meanwhile idiots like Fred and McTominay will still piss about in midfield to the tune of a pay rise.

Count me out.

If any of you lads bought tickets to a match you might enjoy it.

In terms of expectations I don't blame anyone. Cup goals and team development goals are out the window.
-We went from a robust squad to having Lingard be our number 1 sub.
-The one exciting young player to watch turned out to be a garbage human being and is gone.
-many others seems to have peaked or have low ceilings.
-We believe we won't win the CL.
-zero other cup competitions up for grabs.
-All that's left is top 4, a financial goal.

Can the ceiling for expectations get any lower? We also know 6 months ahead of time that this will be another barren season for silverware. So it's low and depressing.

edit: also forgot to add a lot of the team is leaving so we also know we're rooting for players who are as good as someone else's property. Ruins the immersion.

I agree it's depressing. The worst thing is the lack of a sense we're moving in some clear direction. I feel good about Rangnick and what he's doing, but it's basically a holding-and-coping operation. Other than that, it's not clear either what the plan is, what we want to be, or how much we already can expect to have in place. Then there's the stuff that has the potential to make a bad situation even worse: The miserable mess Greenwood's put himself in, the possibility that internal friction will create a need for further purging of the squad and the fact that just replacing those who are about to depart for nothing in the summer will realistically eat up even a fairly liberal transfer allocation.

Still, I'm watching every game and will continue doing so. And improvement would mean something.
