Thought it was pure shite at first, but it is growing on me. Not great by any standards mind....

Huge fan of u2 but this song is very ordinary. Even someone like me who loves their sound cant appreciate this one. Luckily its the only rubbish song on the album.

Sexy boots yeah!

One of the worst on the album.

Don't like it don't think it will grow on me either.

I didn't like it at the start but it has grown on me. There are far better songs on the album though.

How do you rate the album? And which are your favorite songs on it?

I've only listen to it a couple of times. I really like the first three songs, especially the second song, Magnificent. I was very impressed with that.

I will have to listen to it a few more times to rate it. From initial thoughts though I wouldn't be putting it up there with Actung Baby or Joshua Tree or anything like that.

I've been through it. It confuses me as much as it excites me. It definitely is a few notches below those greats and a notch below 'how to dismantle..' which i absolutely loved. It doesnt have many amazing songs, but IMO a lot of good ones. Personal favorite right now is 'moment of surrender'.

What do you think of this guys cover? Pretty good considering he learned it in one day

It's probably amongst the worst songs on the album.

I'm really baffled as to why they choose it as their first single.

The albums growing on me. Some potential classics, but only time will tell. Loving NLOTH, Magnificent, Moment of Surrender, Stand Up.

Breathe has to be my favourite. It's awesome. Sounded great live on Letterman as well.

As much as I loved HTDAAB when it released, I just feel it hasnt stood the test of time. Hope this one does.

Nah i absolutely loved 'How to..'. Absolutely fabulous album. 'Miracle Drug', 'Man an a Woman', 'Original of the Species', 'Sometimes...', 'All because of..' etc Really loved it. It was the peaceful delightful endearing masterpiece that 'All that you can leave behind' and personally i dont rate many albums as good as that, but it was still awesome. Such a wide variety of sounds and they just kept coming. Theres so much there to remember.

Boots is the worst on the album. Its too dark and lacking in direction or melody for me, which is very rare for a u2 song. I'm also really loving Breathe right now. And yes they did it brilliantly on letterman. As a live band, they still piss over all the young bands out there, amazingly.

After listening to it about twenty times, I think it is a fantastic album.

I really like the ninth track "As White as Snow". I think it is fantastic. Magnificent is a great song also (I will resist the oppotunity to say it is a magnificent song). The title song is very good. The third track "Moment of Surrender" is also class in my opinion.

I really think it is a fantastic album. Get on your boots is probably the worst song but that only pisses me off for the lyrics in the chorus. "Get on your boots" and "sexy boots" are some of the worst written lyrics ever. The song itself is generally good, apart from the chorus.

not a good record at all to be honest ( imho)
but then i haven't like u2 for quite a while now

Listen to it a few times and I think it'll grow on you. I read a good review on it by Neil McCormick in the Guardian. He said "It took two listens to find my way into it, which has to be good a thing."

Telegraph review

I think that's a good point. I talked to a lot of people who weren't sure about it initially but absolutely love it after listening to it a few times.

Another good review is Rolling Stone magazine's, which actually gave it 5 out of 5.

I think:

"I've gotta submarine
You've got gasoline"

Might be the worst lyrics ever, coincidentally also from that song.

Yea that's pretty bad also. I'm surprised at U2 using this as their first single from the album, not that they are known as a single band. There are just so many better songs on it. "As White as Snow" is brilliant in my opinion.

Its really grown on me too. Breathe is just such a fun song. 'White as snow' is a good song but its one of those songs that needed to go an extra gear, and just seemed to stay along the same wave length for slightly too long. Magnificent for me is solid but again not 'magnificent'.

I feel as an album its great but individually there arent songs that you would say are absolutely stunning.

ok I'm falling in love with it now. White as snow is a lovely song, moment of surrender is briliant and breathe is loads of fUn. And it's not one or two songs. I'm totally hooked to the whole thing.

The album does get better and better the more you listen to it.

Your initial feelings were right!

You listen to crap often enough it's bound to react like an anaesthesia.

Utter crap.

I now think this album is brilliant.

Anyway, just got my U2 tickets for the Saturday night gig in Croker. Happy days!

How do you reckon this album will sound to someone who is just mildly interested by U2 (me)? I've never been a big U2 fan, though I quite like a lot of what they've done. I like a lot of different music, but definitely mostly on the rock/metal end of the scale. Three random bands would be Queen, Disturbed and Sonata Arctica (:nervous:)

Is it worth downloading and checking out?

Thats a tough one. They're my favorite band and im not sure this would make you fall in love with them. I'd just suggest starting with Joshua Tree and All that you cant leave behind. They're the kind of albums that hit you somewhere deep within and play with you. I first heard 'all that you can leave behind' funnily enough and it really was like falling in love  and then went backwards.

IMO this will give you something very interesting to listen to. And its very listenable. Im finding it extremly difficult to stop listening to the whole thing a tleast once a day. But maybe it wont make as much sense if you dont know the journey of u2 and look at them singing to you from standing up on that padestrain.

Ive got tickets for wembley. 150 fecking quid a pop!!! I thought this tour was supposed to be a recession buster????

This thread doesnt do justice to the biggest band in the world. Mere 30 odd replies and the Messi thread is overflowing with spasticity.

I agree. But there seem to be alot of U2 haters over here.

You lot heard Winter yet? It's an extra track in the special NLOTH package with the movie Linear.

Apparently Eno was trying to convince them to keep it on the album but the band decided to drop it.

Great tune. Would have liked to see it on the album. Don't like the fact that the beginning sounds alot like Viva la Vida though.

I can't find a youtube link. I found it online though, shouldn't be that hard.

I missed out on tickets last Friday for Wembley, they sold out ridiculously fast but thankfully I tried again this morning and got 2 standing tickets for 15th August at Wembley for £55 each  Really ecstatic with that.

U2 are one of my favourite bands ever, I'm 19 but the first song I heard of theirs (with interest that is) was "Drowning Man" from the War album when I was 11 or something. I do prefer their '80s/early '90s stuff but by no means dislike their newer stuff. It's good and very good at times, NLOTH is a wonderful album in my opinion and perhaps more complete as an album than HTDAAB. Coincedentally, when I was reading about the album in Q mag, I thought "Get On Your Boots" would be the worst song off the album and I still stand by that though it has grown on me, very glad that "Magnificent" will be the next single. The new album's not an instant classic as some have already said, but with a few listens you really get into it and I like the variety and the even more expansive sound on the album, more classically atmospheric U2 in my opinion.

I've never u derstood the hate. I fell in love with them with all that to can't leave and going through everything they've had to offer I've never fallen out :) for me the best there is and has ever been. What I also like is that they do nothing irrlevant. Almost everything they do has a definite direction a d purpose which as a fan of their music makes it so good.

Went to see U2 on Friday and Saturday in Croker. It was absolutely fantastic. Had to buy a ticket for tomorrow now! Did anyone else go?

Ive been watching the clips on youtube from Croke. First Dublin show I have missed in years, but I have tickets to Wembley in a few weeks...

To be honest I wasnt that fussed on going to see this tour at all, but now after seeing the clips of the dublin gigs I cant fecking wait for London.

You get any pics, or videos??
