ITs hard to improve on the original series though, where as star trek has originally been all about bad acting and bad special effects so it wasn't hard to keep the same stuff which everyone loved and just improve the acting and effects.
Lucas wanted to sell too much merchandise, thats the problem with the new series. The video games is where star wars is best seen these days.
