Gareth Bale Transfer Speculation | Done

Bale is worth around the same as Cavani or Falcao. A world record bid is just ridiculous.

If you read into Moyes' comment that "we want the first signing to be the right one" then these rumours surrounding Bale, Fabregas and even Ronaldo do make some sense. However, whether this is just the media using that comment to start assuming (based on nothing at all concrete), remains to be seen.

I do genuinely think that £60-65m would seriously tempt Levy. I can see any potential bidding starting at about £50m and working it's way up to that mark. Something along the lines of £60m + £10/15m in potential add-ons sounds reasonable to me. I cannot see Rooney considering going to Spurs, he probably wouldn't even seriously consider Arsenal who have CL football (unlike Spurs).

both are 3-4 years older and seemed intent on leaving their clubs, different scenarios really.

Cavani is just two years younger. Over £80 mil for Bale is insane. I think £60 million is about Bale's value in today's market. Though I'm with the spurs fans in that I think that would be rejected.

I'm glad we're in for him but I absoutely don't see Bale leaving Spurs right now. Firstly I think our bid would have to be around the 80mil mark and secondly I don't think he'd be particularly interested right now.

I've made this point before but Bale is currently the star of a brilliantly run club who've already shown their intent this Summer to push on and progress. Plus he's working under a manager who's held in very high regard across Europe. I think he'll stay there for at least another year. If things haven't changed, then he'll move.

Why are some Spurs fans using the FIFA 14 cover as reason for Bale not leaving their club this summer? In seriousness and not jest, what nonsense. :wenger:

Also had one fan calling Talksport saying that with us as a PL rival the bid should be closer to £160m.

I don't think Spurs could refuse if we offered between £60-70m. I think he's worth £60m though.

I think with a £60m bid, Bale himself would probably want to come cause it'd show great intent from us.

Commercial value?

Look at what it did for Rooney. Probably one of the most recognisable and talked about footballers in Britain and the World. To have a poster boy for the PL brings much more to the club than just on the football field.

Yeah, that would not be a sole reason for him not to leave, but it's a minor reason within many.

Bale needs to think of how much money he'd get by joining us. If he's really bothered about this marketing stuff, it'd make sense to join the most marketable club in the world...

Understood, however it is suggested that because he is on the cover wearing a Tottenham shirt it carries added weight in resisting a bid.

Well that depends. We all remember when he was wanting 'north of' something bloody ridiculous for Modric and in the end got nowhere near it.

I would imagine that was because/the reason why he did not sell Modric to a domestic rival.

Its as confirmed as confirmed can be that bale will not be coming this summer...perhaps next summer...to the modric thread

Not saying it's not true, but what has happened so suddenly that he's had to fly back just 5 days in advance (we're not exactly nearing deadline day) to do anything except put a bid in? Bids can be made while he's abroad. The whole situation just seems to make no sense to me if we believe he's come back for Bale. Again, not saying that's not why he came back, but i just find it strange with the timing of it/apparent belief that Bale is happy at Spurs.

If Levy is going to accept a bid, it'll be on the last day of the transfer window. I doubt whether Woodward's return in the middle of July has anything to do with it.

The Spanish press think Spurs have offered to double Bales' wages to keep the Madrid/United wolves from the door. If Woodward is back because of Bale it might be to stop Spurs or Madrid sealing anything with Bale before we've had a shot.

Would feck up Spurs though.

No one knows exactly why Woodward came back early for. For all we know, it may not even be United-related at all

"Man Utd pull out of Gareth Bale deal after a receiving a hostile phone call from EA Sports regarding the cover for their upcoming video game, FIFA 14."

Anyone but Levy and I feel this would be a goer. It makes sense selling Rooney and using the extra money from his wages for a massive bid for Bale. 'kin Levy.

Why wouldn't Levy sell him to us? He made loads on Berbatov and Carrick from us, i'm sure he would be delighted to fleece somemore if we do indeed go in for Bale

Maybe the penny has finally dropped and AVB has convinced him that Spurs are on their way to winning trophies, if only they can keep hold of players like Bale.

I think the Modric saga showed that he's intent on not selling to rivals. Spurs are in a really good position to get top 4 and selling Bale to another team in the league would just show that the club are content with where they are - especially when they could probably get another year out of Bale and still flog him for around the same price. He won them a crazy amount of points last year; I can't see them being able to bring in players that would make up for that. Levy is also probably in a better position with Bale than the other two and certainly has a lot more to lose.

How much was Modric being touted for though? Can't remember.

Spurs will sell Bale, for the right price and if Bale is convinced to go for the move.

Don't know how convinced he is at this moment in time and not really sure at what point they'd consider selling, but £60m sounds like a decent round number. It'd certainly not be instantly rejected anyway i wouldn't have thought.

All the respect in the world to Carrick, and some respect to Berbatov but Bale is in a different league right now, in regards to his status as a player as well as his age, contract, marketability, potential to get better...I could go on.

Carrick and Berbatov were far more replaceable than Bale is right now. God knows how many points his goals were worth last season, every other week after xmas he'd score a significant goal!

Isn't it more likely that the penny dropped years ago when Levy realised exactly how much money he could make developing and selling on world class players?

Carrick, Berbatov, Modric and now Bale.

There's a pattern there and it doesn't point to Bale staying at Spurs.

So what happens is Bale was a 1 season wonder and fails to replicate his last season form?. This could be the only year he can potentially grab up to 60 million for 1 player. He could rebuild virtually every position they need for that money.

Tough choices at the top...

Spurs would not want to start replacing bale on the last day of the window. It caused them problems with Berbatov and I'm sure they won't want that again.

£60m is a lot of money for one player.... we should consider getting 2 world class midfielders for that kind of money...2 is better than 1

But I do like Bale though.

I think he'll be at Spurs next season and then off to Madrid the following Summer. They can afford to keep him and still get the same money next year or arguably more if Bale builds on last season.

Yeh i don't think we'd get him this summer. He seems to be comfortable where he is. If he was pushing for the move it'd be different but i don't think he would. Maybe we should get him signed up with Stretford.

That would indicate that he's in the business just to line his own pockets and not for any love of football in general and Spuds in particular. That couldn't be true of such an upright fellow like Levy, could it?
