I think he would pick us over any other side.
I think Bale would, yeah. He's young, he's British, he's got a young family; it makes more sense in that respect.

That said, Madrid and Barca have been lining him up for a long time now, and I think Levy would be reluctant to sell him to an English club. Would cost United £65m + for me, but it would be a great signing if we could pull it off. Huge statement of intent.

50 maybe? Torres was the hottest thing at one point and he went for that. If we're really really shrewd, it might be even lower. Who knows, It's not my money. What I know is that if we only get 30m for Rooney from Chelsea, it'll feel like a pretty shitty deal to me, and if we'll have to fork out 60m for Bale, it'll be a shitty deals served as a supersized combo.

Yeah but Ronaldo went for 80m and was a bargain at that. Is Bale really that far off where Ronaldo was when he left us? Plus prices have probably inflated since then. I think whoever buys Bale will be paying at least 60m, probably more.

As for Rooney, I'd be happy if we got 30m for him. I just don't want it to be an English club that gets him.

Just hearing that Oliver Holt is the writer of this Bale story, the heavyweight of that paper's football department and one of those on Fleet Street.

Ronaldo had won a Ballon D'Or before he left us, for a start.

Are personal awards really a valid way of judging players? Anyway, I'm not arguing that Ronaldo wasn't better, I'm just not sure he was that much more than 20m better given how much prices have inflated since.

In this case, when it is indicative of being the best player in the world who contributed to a significant team success, yes.

I get what you're saying, but what Ronaldo did between 2006-08 (and I've seen the stat comparison between both players, I know Bale is very impressive there) was worth breaking the transfer record for.

Barca won't be in for him, they just signed Neymar and have far more pressing needs than signing Bale.

Bale has had one brilliant season, lets see if he can repeat it before even thinking of comparing him to C.Ronaldo, shall we?

I think it's now or never for our hopes of landing Bale.

I'm sure alot of clubs would love to have him right now, but they aren't going to be bent over by Levy. Next season especially if Spurs miss out on Champions League, Bale could actually want to leave and clubs looking at him will be in a good position to negotiate a reasonable fee. A player of his talent will have alot of clubs after him, and we don't usually win in those situations.

If the money is there I couldn't give an arse how much he costs.

We ain't gonna go bankrupt

Imagine we got bale and fabregas. No transfer window would ever come close ever again.

...Ronnie, Fellaini, Baines & Garay(or another)... you forgot those aswell man!

As you said - we arent gonna go bankrupt & if we get the soldiers in now, then we'll be sorted for years to come - especially in mid-field, & we've young Adnan to be a star there in a couple of years aswell.

I'd really love it if we went mental on the spendin this summer, really fecking love it... About time we flexed our muscles again... only this time it would be on a different level - Fantasy Transfer Muppet Level

Ronnie was a goal-machine when he left & the most complete forward player i've ever seen. Bale is a fantastic player, but Ronnie was on a different planet back in 2009, to what Bale is now. We shouldnt realy compare them because of the price-tag Bale has, but we should break the bank to get him - he's the most exciting player in the Prem since Ronnie & he'd have his hero Giggsy mentoring him about everything he needs to do to have career like Giggsy's - impossible i know!

Do your stuff Mr Equalizer

He was compared so much with ronaldo after developing a very similar technique, if we cant get the real thing then a replica isn't so bad. 60 mill? who gives a shit? Lets sign him.

They're just putting two and two together. Woodward leaves Sydney for 'urgent transfer business'; this is a good plausible sounding story to get hits.

The we pick up Ronnie for free in two years time.

Makes sense that one of the tabloids would write this up tonight.

Levy won't entertain any offers from domestic teams, and if he does it'll definitely be close to Ronaldo money.

Would be delighted if it happened but when it comes to reality? Not a chance he'll even be sold imo.

I've been saying to get Bale for years, he will be on a par or close to Ronaldo in the Premier League with better players around him. 30 Premier League goals are not out of his reach.

If we spent £60m on him i'd be happy with it.

Do i think Spurs would sell for £60m? Probably.

Do i think we'll go for him and get him? No.

This is the papers just writing more stories. Yeh, the reason we'd want Bale is to overshadow the Rooney affair. Nonsense as far as i'm concerned and i refuse to believe shite all now after the Thiago/Fabregas/Rooney/Mata/Modric shite that's going around. If we go for him, great, but i doubt we will.

Why? It's not like us and Spurs are rivals.
If a 'nearly' team constantly sell their best players they'll remain a nearly team.

There is the potential for Spurs to build something.

They are under absolutely no pressure to sell him unless he demands it and Bale has made it pretty clear that he's got a lot of time for Spurs. He's in a good place to be fair to him, the spotlight is firmly on him down there.

But if Levy sells to United, he simply limits Spurs' chances to kick on any further, especially considering there is no like for like replacement for someone like Bale.

He will sell, but the offer would have to be huge. I think £60m would just about do it, if not £65m, especially if we can throw in add-ons, but i think anything over £65m is probably paying too much for him, he's got the potential to be a Premier League goal-machine like Ronaldo was, but Ronaldo had three seasons at the very highest level performance-wise before we sold him.

If we went in for say £45m we'd get laughed at i think.

One wrinkle in the plan could be that [so i've heard claimed by journalists] Levy allegedly promised AVB that Bale would remain at Spurs this season when offers for the PSG job were being sent his way. To break faith over their most important player with the leage only weeks away, grounds for a permanent rift and his exist next summer perhaps.

True, but there's only so much you can stand in terms of the size of the bid before your head is turned.

Messi is like gold dust for Barca, but you really think their head wouldn't turn if they were offered silly money?

I guarantee 100% if we offered £80m, Spurs WOULD sell him. What we need to figure out is what their minimum selling figure is. Bale would want to come, definitely.

Have you seen Messi's release clause? You don't sell a once in a generation kind of player like that let alone one of the greatest players of all time. Especially one who developed at your own academy.

11.00am lads

Is that when Garay lands, and United supporters do this simultaneously?

He's had a very good 2 1/2 seasons. He's been playing very well since Jan 2011. He's been more noticeable last season because he's not been restricted to the left wing under AVB, he's pretty similar to Ronaldo now, he'll start on the left, but pretty much end up in any forward position throughout the game, and it's worked very well.

This entire Transfer window has been batshit crazy. It would be hilariously bad if we don't sign established players, look for potential stars and end up loosing Rooney, Nani etc.

I knew some journo would come up with such story at some point. It won't happen, Glaston says that even a £100m bid wouldn't convince Levy (the best chairman in the world) to sell him.

He would be perfect for us, but this is probably the wrong Summer. If we are going to blow our transfer record out of the water by such a margin it can only be on Ronaldo. New manager, tough days ahead... the last thing you want is Bale with a 60M+ pricetag hanging on his head. It's just not right, it would set him back and is destined to fail.

Ronaldo can live with any price tag. It's not arrogance, he is THAT good and has done it here before.

Bale is worth that sort of money and at this point we as a club should be able to offer it. Barcelona have just paid €57m for Neymar, Madrid have already spend €70m this Summer and our finances should at least allow us to match it in the transfer market, especially after several years of being relatively frugal while spending Ronaldo money.

I don't think Bale would falter because of a pricetag. Especially not at his age where he's still likely to keep getting better.

Can't see this business being for Bale though. I really don't know who it could realistically be for other than Rooney.
