Funeral for a Friend

Not Elton John's best song.

One of the members is my namesake though. Thats his claim to fame.

I am inclined to agree with prancy uppercunt on this one.

All their songs sound the same, as does every other from that genre. It might have something to do with the nasal, whiny voice, which every emo frontman seems to have.

Oh, and the ridiculously cliched lyrics. Mustn't forget them.

post hardcore id agree with but pop?

Tell you what lets meet halfway, lets call them post hardcore/emo

You realise pop stands for popular music, right?

They are one of the most popular rock bands/post hardcore bands who have shown any signs of experimental or progressive tendancies at any point. Granted they've lost their balls since then, and the last few albums have been far more mainstream - hence calling them pop.

Does it fecking matter?

They wear makeup and sing about 'Roses for the Dead', it's pretty damn close.

You have a point.

But I think it matters. People who think everything is one of 6 genres "because it has this" or that, are just generalising.

There are feckloads of subgenres and they were created because obviously those general terms werent descriptive enough.

Can every footballer be described properly by either the term "Goalkeeper", "Defender", "Midfielder" or "Forward" ? I wouldnt say so. Regardless of whether one of them wears makeup.

I think it's brilliant. Does this make me a bit of a pillow biter? :nervous:

just for your guide,

This is emo

FFAF are not emo, but who cares right, they suck so.

I dont see how you can like that histrionic stuff its just too in your face and lacks any form of dynamism or depth.

Its pretty energetic, so maybe thats what you get out of it, but i just cant see anything in it,

What got you into them?

There new stuff is shit. Might go and see them at Reading on the Friday but mainly because there isn't much else decent on.

That said i have been listening to there old stuff quite a lot recently. Liking All the rage.

I'm in the lock-up all Friday mate, except 2 ventures to the Main for Alexisonfire and New Found Glory.

I can't wait for Thursday to play.

On topic : FFAF's first EP's were amazing, Casually Dressed was pretty good, Hours had some genius moments and moments of pure arse as well. The last couple albums I'm not sold on at all.

Thursday are on Saturday. Shall be seeing them. I'll be in between the lock up and the festival republic stages all Saturday. For me, Saturday looks quality. Gutted ADTR dropped out though.

The latest FAFF album is listen-able, but the one before that was utter, utter dross. Some really good songs on Hours and CD, but the EP's were the best.

Casually Dressed is their best album, Hours was ok and then it just goes downhill after those two. As has been said they're not great live because he can't really sing that well. I saw them a few years back and they murdered my favourite FFAF song, which was quite disappointing.

The republic stage should be good, I've decided to go watch Danananananakroyd and manchester Orchestra instead of The Plight and Ghost of a thousand, might nake my way to the Republic stage though when Bring Me The Horizon are on i shall be as far away from it as possible.

Saw them at Reading. From memory they weren't bad. This considering the sound fecked up half way through, although i took this opportunity to get with some random girl so was actually not bad. Im seeing them in Norwich on the 29th. Visiting my mate at UEA so thought feck it. Should be decent. Who were the support acts when you saw them?

They're classed as post-hardcore, a genre that has totally passed me by. I looked at FFaF's similar artists on LastFM and haven't really heard any of them. I thought it would contain Coheed & Cambria, but no.

The guy's voice is a tad high and whilst that isn't a bad thing per se (see Cedric Bixler-Zavala) they're not for me.

I'd recommend Oxbow to any fans though, a tad harder and less mainstream.

If there anythign like they were last night, you will love it and im nowhere near there biggest fan (i only knew the lyrics to two of there songs) and I still loved it, there lead guitarist is insane live. Heck all of them are flawless live which is what makes them great, its rare to see good live bands nowadays

The support acts were some guys from Watford and a local band from Pompey, both were very good I thought I dont remember either of them ever saying what they were called though

Post hardcore's probably my favourite genre of music.

ha. Should be a decent laugh. Seeing BMTH, ADTR and August Burns Red a couple of days before.
