You guys know any freeware antivirus you would recommend? Something that can do a good sweep of my HD for spyware, adware and what have you.

Malwarebytes, who your Intrnet provider. Check they may have free software for you to download as part of your package.

Although I did try the Malwarebytes, and it did fix my problem. There were some invisible files in my trash, and one of them was 'WINDOWS'. I had tried everything. I was using a cracked version of Norton Antivirus, but it couldn't detect it. This thing fixed it with a quick-scan!
Norton is the devil, if you are looking for anti-virus programs, use AVG or Kaspersky, demands much less from your computer.
The other programs are excellent for dealing with viruses that are already on your computer.
