If you were to recommend one foreign film to another, what would it be and why?

So many great films to chose from.

I'd recommended the first foreign film I ever saw as a kid and rated: 'The Red Balloon'.

A 25 mins film that captures the essence of all that we value.

What do you classify as foreign? Everything not from England or everything not from any english speaking countries?

For me it's anything where the main language of the film is not English.

I'd recommend Ran, Amelie and Goodbye Lenin to name a few.

Made a thread about that a while ago, hardly any replies. :(

Really is a quality series, better than the film of the same name and I'd argue that it's better than City of God as well.

Oooo now theres an argument.............

Ive watched City of God (the movie) about 4/5 times. Outstanding film never gets old.

Ive watched City of Men twice and loved it aswell but Im pretty sure its not as good as the first one.

I watched the full series a while back and enjoyed it. I felt it was a little dragged out at times but that may be due to me having seen the movies first.

Heres a few from around the world.....

France - La Haine

Germany - The Lives of Others

South Korea - The Vengeance Trilogy - (Sympathy for Mr Vengeance, Oldboy & Sympathy for Lady Vengeance)

Spain - Pan's Labyrinth. Anything by Pedro Almodovar - Like Volver, All About My Mother. I want to see Broken Embraces.

Italy - Il divo.

Canada - Anvil

City of God is a modern classic, no doubt about that, and it's one of my favourite films.

City of Men (film) didn't really come close to replicating the same standard of quality of the first. The series, on the other hand (which I watched before the film) allowed for a much more complete feel, the character development was outstanding and I never felt at any time that it dragged on.
