The ever running game rivalry saga, like the Messi v Ronaldo.

I haven't got either but played both of them and this year it looks like that Pro evo have probably just edged it simply because of the fact that they have made more improvements. The only thing Fifa have improved is that 360 dribbling, which in actual fact isn't much as i used to dribble the same way in Fifa 09.

But, what says you on your experiences about both games this year - which is better?

FIFA for me..

Long time PES fan, converted 3 years ago to FIFA, and I'm going with FIFA again...

I used to be ever so loyal to Konami just cause of their gameplay and effort and player animations they used to have that FIFA couldn't come close to matching. But, that's totally totally changed!
Admittedly PES's graphics are just really really good this time around in terms of the way players look and crowd, but FIFA's gameplay just seems much much more realistic and football like. Players don't walk/run like they're all slouched and hunchbacks. Poor poor animations from PES in terms of gameplay, ball trapping, shooting, passing, players making that extra effort to chase lost causes, lack of physical play...FIFA has all that ..

To me, how real it feels is the only deciding factor, not which game has made the most improvement, and on that scale FIFA still wins.

Fifa is better, no doubt but i was just basing my opinion on which i thought made the bigger improvement which is undoubtadly Pro and for the better.

I just don't see the improvement in dribbling, it just seems the same to me or maybe it was because i used to hold L2 all the time.

PES try to base their game around trying to make it fun to play (arcadey), whislt FIFA's aim is to create the closest thing there is to real football. That is the difference imo.

That's one of the many many things that 10 has improved on compared to 09..Some of the things I noticed a LOT are..

Fifa's improved immensely on the physical aspect of the game.
the midfield tussles for 50-50s...People actually getting freekicks for obstructions...The player AIs in the through balls I see as a massive massive difference, now through balls are actually hit in the direction of the player's path and are much better. Small things like remember how players used to control chipped through balls in 09, now they've got the animation where players actually use the head to push the ball ahead of them to try and not lose out on the pace. The way you finish is so much better and more realistic now. No more can you just use finesse shot into the far post for finishing, things like your angle, the power you use all come into play now. I mean you can actually finish with low shots which are impossible to save. If you've got enough power on the shot, keepers might actually get beaten on their near post. The skill dribbling addition. The fact that you can go around defenders by poking the ball past them and go the other way (bridge move or whatever they call it,) dummy shots on 1 on 1s to go past the keeper (and it actually works unlike 09,) Long range shots and cross field passes when you want to switch the play from flanks travel so much harder and faster unlike the baloony aspect they had in 09..Quick free kicks...the option to hit low freekicks UNDER the wall.

There's so so many improvements in 10!

Eh?

So....this isn't a FIFA vs PRO thread then?....really

Only just got PES so I need a little time to adapt back into PES mode as I'm still playing it in FIFA mode....Early leanings are towards FIFA, but I need a bit more time to be fair about it

I reckon you can gauge the severity of 'fanboyitis' by the word count in the evengelical posts about their game of choice. I predict there'll be a lot of opportunities to test my theory in this thread.

My theory is that it's often the biggest fanboys themselves who complain about fanboyism. You've certainly had your fair share of posts in the FIFA and PES threads.

The 360 degree dribbling is great, irrespective of how much you notice it is definitely a big step forward in creating more freedom ingame.

Other little touches I like is how your players and ref jump out of the way off the ball, the muscling off players who are on the ball is good to, leads to less of those ridiculous situations were two players run like they are stuck side by side. I like how you can do first time tricks running onto a ball, the physics of the ball have improved a bit (not as much as I hoped), and the defenders put in some realistic blocks to.

Got to say they have touched it up very nicely, I can't say if it's better than Pro since I converted last year and can't bring myself to go back to it, especially since I hear there are a severe lack in innovations in Pro now. I have seen a couple of gameplay vids though and it looks quite robotic, but I guess to play it would be the only fair test.

*EDIT* All of what Zain said is very true as well, the list goes on and on.

That is a major major improvement in terms of its significance.
I can't state the number of times when last year I used to want to pass it to a player on the far side of the pitch and with lots of weight on the ball, only for one of my OWN players to get in the way off the pass and deflect it away due to the pace on the ball..
That's one of the things i like about the new AI, your own players know who that pass is meant for and let the ball run by getting out of the way, and the through balls are angled JUST where and how you want them to go! Massive improvement!

Not enjoyed a single FIFA game since the 98 world cup one but always liked Pro Evo until last year, was a big dissapointment and the demo for this year seemed to be more of the same so not got plans to buy either anytime soon which sucks as I loved having a good footie game.

Yeah, now I need to right a letter to Rutter to explain that players need to figure out when to get out of the way of my shots! Having my player run in behind the defence, only to stay offside and block my shot is quite irritating. I'm sure they could implement it if they can do it with passing.

dont go by the demo, the final build is much improved compared to it

I thought Fifa 09 was excellent, they didnt really improve upon it for 10, if anything it's not as good really

This is correct. How, exactly, does that make me a fanboy?

I have no idea which game is better and I don't particularly care. Both demos were much better than last year's games but I've only played the full version of Pro Evo. It's quite good but not amazing.

I'm not buying either. I have Uncharted 2 still in its shrink wrap, now Ratchet comes along and I need that, and I dip into GT and Wipeout for ten minutes when I get the chance because those games allow for that ... football games can bugger off.

I have only played FIFA10 on the PS3 and PES10 on the PC, so I can't really compare the two, especially as I played FIFA with a mate, which is always 10 times as fun as playing alone.

But I generally find myself getting bored with all football games rather quickly except for PES6.

Do you only ever play PS3 exclusives?

No, but I find myself more drawn to them in comparison to the 3rd party software. They are in general better made. You can blame Sony for that though for buying up most of the very highly talented developers that were once independent. They don't have as much pressure on them in terms of getting it out of the gate on a specific date that they would with the 3rd party publishers with a bottom line to take care of. It usually shows as well.

I've got a lot more fussy as I've got older for some reason also. I used to play the living daylights out of games such as Sensible Soccer and Kick-Off 2, but now find the whole idea of playing football games as dull as feck.

PES is more fun, more realistic gameplay, beautiful to look at and more satisfying. Master league. Sound is awful, really awful. AI exploits everything.

Fifa is more refined, more fluid and more polished. Online is better (haven't tried PES online this year). AI exploits the silly 'strength' system.

Both are fun and approach the game from different angles. Personally I prefer the gameplay of PES because it's more basic and as a result it allows you more input into what type of football you want to play. Both games have lots of flaws that are infuriating.

I posted this in the pro evo thread but this pretty much sums up my feelings:

Last year I picked up fifa 09 instead of pro evo due to pro evo dropping below par (up until this point I had bought pro evo for 7 years running over fifa). This year, thanks mainly to this thread and many people saying that pro evo was back on track, I picked up pro evo 2010. First impressions were that it was again a below par game, why? because it lacks true 360 degree movement (I had got used to the Fifa movement and this just didn't look right) but after sticking with it and playing a few matches on it, this nearly takes me back to the pro evo that I grew to love on the PS2. I've got used to the movement again and again pro evo has delivered great free flowing gameplay. The individual aspects of players come straight through even the younger ones (e.g the da silva brothers). The graphics are top notch too. I can safely say that this will be in my disc tray for the majority of the time.

I can though understand why people who are used to Fifa will find it very hard to like this game but for me I won't get the same gratification of playing Fifa that I do when I'm playing pro evo, something about Fifa just doesn't sit right with me, I'm sure other pro evo players feel the same way. Fifa feels far more in depth but Pro Evo simply gives me more enjoyment.

If Konami continue at this rate of progress then pro evo 2011 might truly be a special game but until then this will keep me occupied for hours on end. Welcome back old friend:D:D

I find the same is true with Valve, ironically. :D

They are generally better made than most titles.

Both are pretty shite games to have been released i preferred fifa last year over pro evo but not so this year fifa is infuriating at times, those basics needs of a football game have been replaced by this poxy skill button. I rarely want to skin five players with stepovers etc I just want simple short passing and this is not in fifa at all.

Pro evo this year although better than last years attempt is still not without its flaws, the usual GK problems, some ai issues and what not but a better game. The only serious drawback is still with the online with fifa its a much more stable game.

i think pro evo
