I think I might have the YLOD on my PS3 :nervous:

Was playing Fallout 3 the other day and all of a sudden my PS3 beeped and turned itself off. I didbn't feel like loading it up again so I just left it off. Have since gone to turn it on again today and it doesn't come on.

The light goes green, and it sounds like it's starting up for about 2 seconds, then it beeps quickly 3 times and the light turns yellow before turning off again.

feck no. I got it on release day i think.

I was going to suggest doing what I did, signing up to Sony's continous play service and then giving them a call a few days later, but I just went to the site and got this:

Dear Continuous Players, we set up this service ultimately to provide a fast, efficient and cost effective way to ensure that your experience with PlayStation 3 & PSP was as seamless and hassle free as possible. Unfortunately, some individuals have chosen to abuse this service and as a consequence we feel that we have no option but to suspend Continuous Play and postpone acceptance of new Continuous Play plans until further notice. We will of course honour existing customer's policies and look to amend the existing provision so that it is less vulnerable to exploitation. Sincere apologies

So I don't know what you can do, to be honest. Maybe give Sony a call and hope you are connected to a decent customer services person.

Think the charge for a repair is 145 quid.

Really didn't need this. I could do without having to spent that much money.

Where the fudge is the serial number?

No they aren't, the RROD was much more frequent than this. First time I've really had a problem with my PS3 for the 3 years I've had it.

Take it back to where you bought it with a copy of the Sales of Good Act stating that you expect something that cost you close to half a grand, to be durable enough to last longer than a couple of years. Kick up a fuss and you might get lucky.

Also when looking in to PS3 durability I read rumours that BBC watchdog were investigating the YLOD problem so you could contact them.

I would explore all avenues before handing over £150 for a repair on a 3 year old games console.

I've heard that Sony have repaired them even when out of warrenty (think its a certain fault, can't quite remember though) so hopefully you'll get lucky when you ring.

Good luck!

Shame about the Continuous Play too, looks like I signed up to that just at the right time.

If you ever buy one of these things, I think that they should be stress tested straight away. Leave them on for a week or two running something heavy. When I first got mine it was always on when I was not using it, folding. Last summer I did a proper stress test, there is a thread somewhere. I let it run a GT5:P replay for 10 days.

Bring it back to where you bought it Sol, my machine died not so long ago with the same fault a 60gb god rest its soul. Gamestop didnt wanna take responsibility for it as they tried to claim I only receive 1yr warranty from the store, but by EU law I get 2yrs on all electrical goods and services, so I kept fecking banging on their door, ringing head office etc.

Eventually I went to the small claims court explaining my case then suddenly boom Gamestop were more than willing to address the situation.

A little bit of barking goes a long way man.....

I bought it 3 years ago with no warranty though.
