Donny + Martial - Is There a Way Back?

It also depends who we get in as permanent manager come the end of the season, not only how they perform out on loan. Personally I think they both suffer from weak mentalities when required to perform on the bigger stage, and Donny irrespective of his lauded technical ability (which we are all yet to see much of a glimpse of), lacks the physicality required to make it as midfielder in the PL.

That said, with our decimated squad yet to take another battering this summer I can feasibly see both of them staying. For me there's a glimmer of hope for our direction as a club under Rangnick, I just hope he can coach some consistency into our performances and turn the heads of players who already have one foot out of the door.

I think there was always a chance back for VDB based on the new manager but I think Martial suddenly has a chance to compete for meaningful minutes in light of the person who shall not be named hailing from Bradford completely ruining lives around him and his own.

I can't see Sevilla putting in a decent offer to buy Martial, which likely means we'll keep him rather than accept a low-ball offer. Will another club go for him with a serious offer?

Donny has been ignored by two very different managers so my guess is that if an offer comes in for him of any sort then a deal will be done, particularly if it's within the Premier League. Big financial loss of course, but that's unavoidable at this stage.

Martial, has said he wants to go, unless he totally underwhelms on loan he will return, just for the salary.
Donny does seem to want to stay, hopefully Ten Hag will arrive and show Donnys skills at last

In a case such as this, i just hope we own up to the reality.
He is a player who is very unlikely to suit our style. He is on astronomical wages, which we should be looking to get rid of. So, between keeping, and paying a lot for, a player we do not want, and getting a below expected fee for a sale, i know which i`d prefer.

Of course. Martial seems to be the bigger "if" here but he is also the one that had 20+ goals a season campaigns and exceptional talent. Some players mature later then others so why not him as well? We'll likely be without at least 2 if not 3 strikers short next seaosn with Cavani, Greenwood and Ronaldo gone for different reasons, so I'd be careful with writing Martial off.

We may keep Martial out of necessity. It’s likely we’ll start next season without Ronaldo, Cavani, and Greenwood. Even if we were to sign a forward, we’d still lack numbers and it remains to be seen if Ronaldo can get back on track with the team around him.

I imagine Van De Beek will decide himself whether or not we keep him by how well he seizes the opportunity at Everton.

From the little I've seen of Donny he seems like exactly the type of midfielder we've been needing. Someone who can work both ends of the pitch, retain possession and pick out a pass. He is an excellent footballer. I'm not sure if he will fit in at Everton though. They may want a "tougher" midfielder. Or they will play him as a #10, which is not his best position. He's a #8. I think he can definitely be Pogba's replacement and a better option in our first 11 than Fred or McTominay.

As for Martial, I thought his time was up at United. He definitely has talent but I really don't like how he is always showing for the ball rather than seeing space behind defenders. He is always getting the ball to feet. I had hopes of him being our #9 or left winger. I still think there is a spot for him, I just don't see him as a starter. He's a good option to rotate in and come off the bench, but he needs to see the play better and anticipate. he's too reactionary...

Martial is finished here. He's had more than enough time, games, opportunities to show he is capable of the one thing he wants, to be our starting striker. He's not good enough and no loan will be the spark that makes it click for him.

Donny is different. He needs a long run of games to get used to the league and see if he's got the grit and determination needed, or if he's a tidy player who has to be in a slower league to excel.

Don't see either player coming back, even if they do well, both have had their chances at OT.
Martial hasn't attempted to change his style since he arrived, maybe Seville will be the wake-up call he needs, still don't see him coming back, if there is a choice.
DvB is a 'pass and move' player (when at his best) playing in a threesome, we don't do that, however, under Lampard he might get a chance to shine if played in the right position, but again coming back to OT. doubt it. I think of the two Donny has been the one mistreated, why Van Dar Sar sent him to us I cannot figure... unless perhaps he thought he would be following him?

If they smash it on their loans will we cash in or bring them back?
I think Martial has a bigger chance of coming back.

I think Martial is absolutely nailed on to come back.
I predict he'll be a flop in Spain, Seville will realise that they can get a better player for a fraction of the cost, and send him straight back to OT, where United will "give him another chance to prove himself".....

For Martial, think he will be back not because we want him back but because we are going to be short strikers/forwards. Cavani, Lingard, Greenwood, Mata at minimum. Ronaldo will I think play less, especially in cups and such. So will need at least 2 more options in the forward line. So even if Martial is not a long term forward for us, in this market, we can get 1 possibly top forward but, not 2.

Same will go for DVB. Think Matic will go along with Pogba. Not sure who we would promote, so need at least DM and another CM. Getting even one of those is going to be a challenge. So we will keep what we have in DVB.

Both are on big contracts and it’s hard to say which clubs would want them. If Martial is willing to take a wage cut he’ll go off to another club. Donny is a harder case to crack. If Ten Hag comes, Donny likely stays.
