The new Joss Whedon show. Pilot episode aired on the 13th and was a good start to the series. One to watch out for.

Pretty shite, I thought. I was a big fan of Buffy and Angel, not so much of Firefly. I don't think Eliza Dushku has the acting chops to pull off playing a different character every week.

Thought it passed as alright myself, far better than most recent shows such as Fringe and Heroes. And basically any show that started in the past 2 years. Obviously tough to draw a conclusion from 1 episode, but everything Whedon touches turns to gold and I expect this will be no different.

And I'm glad you thought it was shite, guy who wasnt a fan of Firefly. Very glad :p

You hate Berba. :p

So what is the verdict on this show after a couple episodes, is it worth watching?

According to Joss Whedon, not good. He's said he'll never work with another network because they ruined the show.

He says that about everything.

It's a solid show, not as good as his best shows though.

But probably best to give it till the end of the first series as it seems to be teetering on the edge of becoming a much better show when a seemingly badass character is introduced.

Eliza Dushku said that it should get good at the 6th episode (two more). That's when Joss started personally writing the show and they introduce a long story arc. Right now, it's not very good.

Rented this on DVD, takes about half a season to get going, then goes straight into "holy shit! Wait, what!?" territory.

I watched the pilot and thought it was arse to be honest. Eliza Dushku is mint though.

Been canceled. Didn't surprise me, was a really shit show that just never got going.

Anyone being watching the second season?

I'm still quite surprised it even got a second series. I expect the thought process was something to do with not wanting to miss another opportunity as they did with Firefly, but seriously... Anybody watching the show can tell it was a few good episodes buffered by a bunch of horribly bad ones. Not watched any of the second yet, but I have them all. Might give them a watch at some point, but there's much better stuff out there at the moment so probably won't bother for a few months.

ITV have started showing them from the start over here, and though I've only seen the first three episodes I've quite enjoyed them. Are you telling me it gets a lot worse, though?

They should just swallow their pride and bring back Firefly for feck's sake!

I'd say it gets a fair bit worse, but picks up pace towards the end of the series. Almost to the point where they could justify a second series, simpy because it was improving and it was Whedon. However, I'm pretty convinced Dollhouse would've been dropped there and then if it wasn't for the Firefly experience. If you've enjoyed it so far though, keep watching because there are a couple of episodes up to Whedon's usual quality.

Main problem is it's just all a bit dull. Aside from the computer geek, there's very little in the way of personality in the characters that isn't stoic, cool or just plain bland (intentionally bland!). And I don't suppose it helps that the premise means the main character is a blank slate. You kind of get the feeling that they focused too much on the individual episodes for a 12/13 episode run rather than the series story. It's not too bad when this happens over a 20-25 episode run, but when it's half that you really just want them to focus on the main story.

Oh and I'd love a return for Firefly, but Serenity probably put an end to any possibility of that!

Love Joss for his work on Buffy/Angel. Not sure whether to bother with this show though.. Someone tell me why I should!

That computer geek is nearly identical to the computer geeks in Buffy, too. I reckon it's Whedon's alter-ego, y'know, the geek he always wishes he was. Geeky, but also kinda cool.

I watched all of the first season and the first episode of season two but then lost interest - seen it all before. Anyone still enjoying it?

As in Xander? That was my impression too.

Nah, not Xander. Xander was like Wash in Firefly - he's got a bit of Xander's wit but he's mainly like the three geeks that tried to capture Buffy. Warren, Andrew and Johnothon I think their names were?

Topher, the computer geek, annoyed the hell out of me. Hated that character and his characteristics just didn't add up giving the environment he was working in.
Why he was one of he main characters is also a question I kept asking myself when I watched the show. He can only add so much to the storyline staying in his "lab" all the time asking the same questions:

Topher: how are you feeling
Doll: did I fall asleep?
Topher: for a little while

IMO this wasn't a bad idea for a show, just really badly executed. The direction it took just made it repetitive over the course of one season, and it was only a 12 or 13 episodes season.

And for all her sexiness, Eliza Duskhu can't for the life of her act so sticking her in the main role isn't the smartest move when the script has more holes then Swiss cheese.

Most definitely.
Wouldn't be hard to spot if she fakes an orgasm though, not that I'm worried :nervous:
