Day 23: Netherlands vs. Argentina

just read a partridge quote from him, i don't need to read more, you're incorrect.
That's the only good thing he's done since I've seen him on there, very inconsiderate timing on his part really.

Yep, question is, can Messi come back from his off-year and return to his record breaking best? Does he have it in him anymore to have a tournament like Maradona in '86? I fear not.

Probably not, he might only have one more chance at his peak, but I think it's utterly irrealistic to expect that to happen, or stubborn to make it a requirement for comparisons among players. These competitions have becoming increasingly riddled with out of form top performers who get here after playing 50 or 60 games per season for the clubs that pay them tens of millions each year. It's no longer the end-all-be of top footballers, Messi shines in European Competitions at a rhythm Maradona never done (nor had that many chances). To hope for carbon-copy careers is daft.

Honestly thought Maxi was passed it 5 years ago. No idea how he's still hanging on...

Just tap it around the back for 3 minutes. I want penalties and it's the least we deserve for watching this for over 2 and a half hours.

Disappointed with Holland in the knockout stages.

I wish there was a way in football where there could be no winners, these both teams don't deserve to be in the final.

Messi has not played a good game, yet he has created 2-3 chances which should have been converted. He's done his part. His teammates haven't.

I really like this Dutch goalkeeper. He reminds me of a young Van Der Sar, looks so calm. I reckon he is going to be the hero for Holland in the penalty shoot-out.

I hope Germany thrash whichever of these pricks go through.

Seriously, I don´t like this. Two very average teams relying on one or two star players going the full distance while the dominant other finalist finished their game after 30 minutes while being the best squad on paper and having one extra day to rest. Everything points towards us to win this tournament. It is nearly too obvious.

Dirk Kuyt is your playmaker. feck holland.

Van Gaal will need to be lucky again.

Absolutely. But to unquestionably go down in history amongst that company, he just has to match their biggest achievement.

Sides way to conservative for either Robben or Messi to make an impact.

Horrible game

Yeah I'm getting a funny feeling you'll end up blowing it in the final.

This is good for you, yes?
