Majority of this forum probably thinks Argentina will be knocked out but I think they'll go through. Still haven't hit their best form but they were a lot better today, and I'm not sure the Netherlands side are particularly great either. The extra time will have taken it out of them.

@marcosdeto , I really expect you guys to avenge our 5-1 loss here. Something neither Mexico nor Costa Rica could do yet.

Hopefully they get Aguero back seeing as Di Maria is out. Indi trying to stop Messi and Kun could end in tears for the Dutch.

3-1 Argentina

Robben vs Messi.

Think it will depend on which of those 2 has more impact.

I think Hollands run will end here.

Come to think of it Argentina are the only team to win every one of their games right?

It all depends on who turns up to play. The Argies without Di Maria and Aguero are going to need Higuain and Lavezzi to carry the load. Not sure if they will.

Will RvP turn up ? Will Robben continue to dominate on the right? Which Sneijder will turn up?

Impossible to predict this one.

If Messi doesn't score, Argentina will be eliminated. Without Di Maria and Aguero, it will all be up to Messi. RVP has really sucked in the last 2 games, but I have a feeling he will come up big against Argentina.

I think this Holland team is more dangerous when they are playing as the underdog and counter-attack. They will definitely be the underdog in this game, and I wouldn't be surprised if we saw a similar performance(not score wise) to the one against Spain.

I think if Holland wins, it will not be close. They will either win big or lose a close game.

This one is really hard to call.

Aguero will be back, no ? He was on the bench for Today's game if i heard correct. But he hasn't been great himself and won't be probably fully fit.

Argentina have the better supporting cast in terms of individual talent comfortably over the Dutch, but Van Gaal is comfortably better manager than Sabella and Dutch are probably more better drilled as a unit.

Anyway, missing De Jong in this one will be a big blow for the Dutch. As big as Argentina missing Di Maria.

Both Argentina and the Netherlands have won all of their matches.

Also contrary to certain opinions I think Aguero's injury is a blessing in disguise. It's not coincidental that Argentina have improved a bit since he limped off vs Nigeria after the tumescent displays vs Iran and BH. Messi, Aguero and Higuain can't coexist IMO. Lavezzi is more suited to the role of a third wheel.

Argentina haven't been to the final in 24 years so my guess is that they will play it safe to get through. Netherlands need to play all out with their balls out to win this one.

2-1 AET Netherlands. Because Robben magic. Because Van Gaal balls.

Both Argentina and the Netherlands have won all of their matches.

I think he means winning it without going to penalties. If I remember correctly, a match that ends in a draw after 120 minutes is technically resulted as a draw, with only one team advancing because of PKs.

Hmm yeah mate that sounds about right. They haven't gone to PKs yet. Although the match vs Switzerland did go to extra time.

I agree.

I thought going with Aguero, Messi, Di Maria and Higuain was overkill first few games and they not learned their lesson from four years ago when Germans destroyed them.

Just too much of a gap between defence and attack. Also basically asking Messi to be deeper and be like the playmaker. Which for me is not getting the best out of him .

I wasn't impressed with Argentina attacking wise against Belgium, but they were decent defensively even though Belgium looked toothless. Not convinced about their goalkeeper.

Yeah the decision to start Romero does seems bizzare TBH. Particularly when they have an excellent keeper sitting on bench.

That said despite his shaky performances they haven't conceded loads of goals. Maybe the decision by Sabella to overlook Caballero will be vindicated in the end.

Can't wait for this match. Imagine RVP scoring a similar goal to the infamous Bergkamp goal against the argies at WC 98

Before the Costa Rica match, I would have easily said Holland. But as of now, I think Argentina have the edge and are favourites due to Messi.

Robben will carry Holland through. And he will come to United, next.

The one thing that this Holland team have proven to the World is that they are a team.

I have never seen a Dutch squad as united as this one. For once it seems there is no internal drama, no egos (to an extent) and a very strong will to win.

Needless to say Robben has been phenomenal and is the engine of this team.

Hard one to call. Holland look a more balanced unit that are better managed. But Argentina have just come off their best performance.

how the feck are people predicting an argentina win here? dutch as underdogs? are you kidding me  they are probably, alongside germany the best unit in the competition and seem to have very solid tactics and strong balance in their squad. would be surprised if they don't go through, I am hoping the argies win though, hate robben's guts the diving cnut

Netherlands look the better squad in my eyes. Argies have failed to impress me throughout the whole tournament, but with Messi in the team you never know what might happen.

Despite having such a young and inexperienced squad the Dutch have been outstanding. Robben has been immense and surely a shout for player of the tournament by now. My prediction is a Dutch win here, can't see Argentina winning.

i think this is it, we -the argies for all the clueless- have gone as far as possible

we don't have a team, we just have good individualities -messi the first three game, messi and di maría against the swiss and higuaín yesterday- that had made us reach the semis

also we where lucky before the tournament started because of the rivals we where going to face

but now we are going to be against a proper team that not only knows our weakness but that will also know -thanks to LVG- how to exploit them

i will be very surprised -and delighted, of course- if we beat the dutchs, my true concern is that we dont suffer a humillating defeat as spain did

anyway, i'm glad our team made it this far, because it proved that Messi can carry Argentina to the top, and that if you take him out of his confort zone, he also delivers

not that he won against stoke in a cold monday night, but i don't see that happening any time soon

congratulations to the dutchs, they -and maybe the germans, but mostly the former- had been the best team so far and it wouldnt be bad that they finally win the tournament that they have been deserving for a very long time

i'd be delighted is Holland wins the world cup, because they deserve to be in the elite group of world cup winners

cheers

I haven't read a post that confused me as to it's seriousness as much as that for awhile.

Cheers Marcos.

i'm not kidding, i seriously think we've reach as far as we could
I know! I figured it out by the end !

I think holland are much better organised and balanced and basically better managed, but they're not exactly an outstanding side Argentina haven't got a chance against. It will be very close. I'd have the Dutch as favourites but there's not that much in it.

as i said, i'd be delighted if we win it, but i have to be honest and i don't think that Sabella has the edge to beat the dutchs with a team that wont have di maría or aguero

i can't see our defense doing much against Robben, Sneijder and RVP and i also think that our MFs wont be up for the task ahead

my big concern is that we wont be humilliated as spain was, and if we are, i really hope our players don't embarass themselves with stupid macho reactions

That's where mascherano comes in.

Unfortunately, I think Argentina will win this one. :(

Argies without Di Maria and Aguero aren't that strong. Both teams don't have a strong defense but still Holland seems to be more organized. And finally, Robben is better than Messi (not in general but on current form). Argentina has the better team but I think that Holland will manage to go into the final.

An another strange pattern, Holland seems to be good against Spanish language states. Spain, Chile, Mexico and Costa Rica. Will it be 5?

Marcos overrating Dutch a bit. Argies will it IMO.

Dutch's defense did not like Costa Ricans running at them, Messi would tear them a new one. Very lucky Di Maria is out since I don't see anyone in Dutch team capable of dealing with his runs. Key would Higuain again having a big game.

Mascherano will also make it very hard for Sneijder in the middle. It will be all down to Robben again IMO. Dutch need RVP to get back in the groove for any chance to win this one.

I am calling Argentina 2-0 win
