Brighton Game Postponed

Apologies, by vaccination, I meant what the government regards as vaccinated (Which is 3 vaxx in most cases), what I am asking is what's the difference between last year and the fact they continued in what to me would seem like a worse circumstance
Unfortunately the transmission of this variant is so fast and its ability to evade antibodies is going to cause huge issues.

Technically we should be in a better position than last year but we just aren't, the basis for large events to continue to take place will be the pressure this new strain causes on the NHS so we'll just have to wait and see if the booster campaign does what the government wants and helps reduce the hospitalisations.

Having said that latest data shows this variant multiplies 70 times faster than the delta variant inside the human bronchus, its going to be a bigger problem than the government yet understands.

Hopefully those in charge see sense in either postponing every game for the next few weeks or at the very least play behind closed doors to also keep the general public safe. With this new variant while most are jabbed having lots of games coming up and with large attendances we could get another Liverpool vs Atletico scenario although less deadly.

From a fan perspective, you can only enter if vaccinated in a few days anyway, a year ago football was still played behind closed doors and very few were vaccinated, with most now vaccinated, how have we seen this scenario where games can't be played? If they have enough players (14 with 2 keepers) should they not play and those that have COVID isolate and be treated like an injured player?
Simple as this. I don’t really understand what’s going on this time.

Obviously won't happen, but I wouldn't mind the FA Cup and League Cup being cancelled for a season if league games are getting postponed. Players have already been playing too frequently for the last two seasons because of covid, and the more we keep postponing games the worse it gets

I wonder when and how we will continue our games! Fixtures will look not good for us. Gutted but hope everyone is safe.

We could have fielded a decent 8 a side team.

From the training ground arrival pictures that were released on Wednesday, our available players included Ronaldo, Bruno, De Gea, Dalot, Telles, Martial, Fred and McTominay. Lindelof was also there yesterday but presumably still going through other testing.

---------De Gea
Dalot---------Telles
-----McT---Fred
---------Bruno
----Ron----Martial

We'd have battered them 8v8.
7v8 if you are starting martial

Right thing to do. Hope we don’t have to shut down the entire league til new year even if it wouldn’t be a surprise.

Only positive from this is giving Varane and Cavani more time to get fit.

If players recovered and we got the chance to train for two weeks under Rangnick that would be ideal.

I feel for you mate. Not sure if you'd be interested but why not book a stadium tour? I think they are still taking place. Better than nothing if you have came over from the states.

I’ve actually done the stadium tour multiple times before, and with Omicron and me needing a covid test before heading back, going to try and stay away from the train as much as possible. Would’ve easily been worth quarantining for an extra 10 days for the game but now I think I’m just gonna do outside experiences. Have an airbnb on Gaisford street close to central London so going to explore here today and then into the heart of the city tomorrow !

Can see them closing the league down until after the new year before the situation spirals out of control.

How long before BCD games get reintroduced I wonder?
The problem at the moment isn't fan to fan transmission as much as player to player transmission so playing behind closed doors wont help elevate that problem.

I have to wonder how much this might disrupt our season if we go into lockdown again and already being a few games behind. The onrush of games when it does resume will be tough.

That is a potential silver lining.

If the league is paused for a few weeks, but training can continue, it could be of benefit to new managers like Rangnick and Conte, as it would give them a chance to get some tactical training in (with the non-isolating players anyway). Spurs haven't played for 11 days already and their match tonight with Leicester is also postponed - they could end up having a month off at this rate - I'm sure Conte will be using the time productively.

Obviously the downside is fixture pile up in the the Spring, but if there is a break, the season will probably need to be lengthened to accommodate surplus games.

And we have to remember next season is already a bit of a mess with the WC in the middle of it. I can't see how we can push the end of this season too much.

That's true, but it feels like we're edging closer to BCD and full-lockdown again.

God, I hope I'm wrong.

players should be ready next week and we are out of the league cup so there is still days available to play these 2 postponed games. im not worried at all.

When can we realistically play this? Maybe the January midweek when the other teams are playing the League Cup semi's?

I feel like a full lockdown won’t happen - push everyone to get boosters and then maybe start returning to measures like rule of 6, curfews, closing of non essential business, maybe even close hospitality for a few weeks.

Utd don't play again till the 27th so they've got a while to get things sorted, done the sensible thing and closed Carrington for a few days.
Very few games next week as league Cup so should be ok.

It's shit but the fixture nightmare is piling up. Suspending the league is the only thing that makes sense. We are facing a situation where a number of teams will be 5/6 fixtures behind the rest.

Feck me, I was looking forward to enjoying some football. These players need to get a paycut if they aren't vaccinated. Plus all these English fans in the stadium needs to start wearing masks. I said it before, but I m shocked and appalled at the lack of mask wearing in English stadium.

Other than Liverpool off the top of my head is there any teams that havent been affected by outbreaks since last year?
Liverpool have 3 players out with covid Fabinho, VVD, and Jones today. Obviously no where near as bad as ours but I wonder if that figure might increase in coming days

There is a university in the U.S., Cornell U., that has a 97% vaccination rate and yet they are experiencing a huge outbreak. Vaccines can help you recover but they DO NOT prevent you from getting infected. This is not a pandemic of the un-vaccinated.

The league is in a pickle. If they cancel the matches until January then the league is extended into the summer. If the league is extend in the summer how does the PL start early in order to take a month-long break for the WC in December? Tough decisions ahead.
If it comes down to it, can't they just make the games like 30 minute halves? And have teams play games every 3 days to make up for any missed ones.

If this were fifa career mode you'd play 4 games in 7 days

Just a point to my post.
chelsea have Werner & Lukaku out due to covid.
There is an argument that clubs having matches postponed are at an advantage over clubs with 2-4 key players out with covid who are still playing.

I think the whole leagues will stop until new year, and BCD games back on as well I think. I hope it doesn't , there's already 2 games to catch up how many more next up is 27th hope that's on.

Some players might end up taking quite a while to recover from covid. Hopefully ours will get over it quickly enough.

There is. But then there’s also a point that those that don’t play will have fixture pile up where they might have to play 3 games in a week. Swings and roundabouts. Not to mention those not playing will also be less fit and up to speed, unless they were allowed to train together, which is doubtful.

The question is how many actual positive cases and how many players are just out due to being unvaccinated? Be nice to know but don’t expect the club to tell us.
