Break-in robbery at Lindelöf's house during Brentford game - Wife and kids at home

A lot of footballers are buying protection dogs. It's a growing industry here. They tend to be GSDs, Cane Corsos, Malinois, Dobermans or Rottweilers though.

I'd take a Boerboel over any of those, personally, but any dog will do. Burglars don't like being noticed and they don't like noise.

Inbred scum who have zero capability of doing something good with their lives.

Sadly this is becoming an ordinary thing by the looks of it.

Horrible news.

As somebody who recently had a home invasion I know exactly how bad it can feel.

Bad luck for Victor who had started showing a bit of form recently, the main thing is his family are safe and well.

Good of Rangnick to give him all the time he needs.

Dunno about that. We were burgled years ago and our Labrador did feck all. I bet he was trying to play with the burglars and they were laughing their heads off whilst rubbing his belly.

 some dogs might be a little too laid back, yes. An older lab might fall into that category.

This is how low some people can go. They clearly knew that Lindelöf was playing down south. If it were me running the club, I would offer a £50k reward for information leading to the arrest of these scumbags and a subsequent kicking and jailing of them. Are burglars football fans too? I wouldn’t blame him for leaving and moving his family to Sweden.

This is truly shocking, I'm amazed at this point that these footballers don't employ some security considering the money they earn and the time they're away from the home. In a perfect world they shouldn't need to of course, but read so many of these stories now.

Horrible news. That must of been awful for them.

Hope the arseholes are found. This is far too common in Manchester for it not to be the same gang.

Don't know why you think the club should stump up for that? These people are scum, but I wouldn't expect my place of work to have to foot the bill.

I included the word “or” in that sentence.

One reason the club itself may want to stump the cash for player security is that the security can be coordinated and be of sufficient quality. We’re talking about young men in most cases who can be easily bamboozled by shitty security services firms who would actually perpetrate the crime itself. I won’t go into detail but I can assure you this happens frequently.

The club makes a huge investment in these employees. Even at just a few million a year to provide wraparound security services for the whole first team playing staff it’s a worthwhile investment. Say the unthinkable happens to the unprotected family of Ronaldo or De Gea right before a cup final, or any match really. The few quid the club saved by not ensuring the protection of that family would not have been worth it.

Haha my little coco is a beast. You should see how he behaves when he sees the mailman. You would swear poor Mike has done something terrible to him.

Victor if you’re reading this, Manchester is not a good place. Take your lovely family to Spain or back to Portugal. You don’t need this hassle

right @Vidyoyo?

I am kind of perplexed about the call for the club to pay for security for all the players, are you kidding me? These guys make enough money to pay for it themselves, being famous is the reason why they make so much money - for good and bad. Ronaldo makes ten times your yearly wage in a week, he pays for his own security. If the club pays for it, it’s taken from higher ticket prices and so on.

Such a terrible thing, burglars who break into homes are worst scum there is. There is always easy money in markets, gas pumps, etc., and no one will care.

Anyone know the whole story -- did they lock themselves in a room and call 911 (whatever the number is in the UK) and the police came too late? Did their alarm system go off?

The player should of course pay for the security of his or hers home, although the club should 100% arrange for it. Nevertheless, horrible experience. I hope they will recover quickly as letting Maguire play in his current form is also criminal.

Ronaldo has two ex Portuguese soldiers as his security guards. They follow him to training in the morning and follow him everywhere else as well as guard his house. No one is getting near his house, his possessions or the man himself (apart from alot of premier league defenders).

Sounds like it yes. They have a panic room in the house.

Unfortunately UK Police were probably too busy trying to catch teenage boys in car parks doing donuts.

Similar thing happened with Cancelo a while back. Is this an extraordinary scenario or are break-ins in Manchester more common that I thought?

I live in Manchester (Burnage) and can confirm that anything that is not literally nailed-down will be nicked in Manchester. Really don't think we can say anything about the Scousers to be honest!

The first city in the World that had to scrap the 'free bikes' scheme because they kept getting nicked and vandalised...works fine in LDCs on every Continent

A few of my richer mates houses (well their family houses) have private security. Maybe the neighbourhood or a few houses pitch in together. They're not earning footballer salaries. If they can afford it I'm shocked footballers don't have it. Lindelof earns £100k a week, you could probably get something sorted for half or even quarter that for the whole year.

You could chuck £50 grand a year at 3 people to sit in their cars in 8 hour shifts outside your gaff. Wouldn't even need to do any security work.

Give them a few free tickets as well and a million people would want that job. feck, I'd do it.
It would cost more than 50k a year for someone competent. I’m not sure what the laws around security in UK are like but if the burglars are armed and the security is not, then they’re not going to be much of a deterrent. Hiring ex soldiers/cops whom would have did security in Iraq and other hot spots etc, whom also are allowed to be armed, would be a real fecking deterrent in my opinion. They wouldn’t need to be present 24/7 but having a panic button or a rapid reaction team would be something. Potentially clubs could do that no problem, considering the investment they already make.

Hate to say it, but it does make you appreciate the 2nd amendment in the US. Not the part where you have to worry about people with guns on the street...but seems that house robbers would be a bit more worried if there was the possibility that Mrs. Lingard would greet them with a shotgun.

Did they ever get the burglars in Cancelo's house? As far as I remember, he was at home when it happened too.

Not really. If you’re criminal-minded and determined to enter a house and steal, you’ll just bring your own guns and be primed to use them in the first instance of heightened adrenaline.

The gist in this thread is that security teams would sort the problem, but that just becomes a game of cat and mouse with more detailed planning going into the robbery.

If you’re not dealing with opportunists, but rather professional outfits, not much is going to deter them other than the risk not being worth the reward; that’s the danger of being rich and in the public eye, more so for anyone whose schedule can be checked in an instant.

There are obviously ways to make things extremely difficult for these types, but that involves not living a normal life, which is anything but what most people who are not detached from reality want to do. That can make you a different kind of prisoner, which must be ruinous in itself if you want to be ‘normal’, grounded and ’free’.

From the sounds of it, Lindelof’s wife was very happy and comfortable living her life in that house given her social media profile. I doubt that’ll remain after such a violation, unfortunately. Be interesting to see if they move house, or literally leave the country after this.

They did seem to have an air of innocence about them, its a shame. Not like Cancelo who is from the streets.

This sort of thing happens more and more often to footballers, targeting rich people when they expect nobody to be at home. Is there any reasonable way to combat this other than having every footballer have on-site private security at the time of matches/travels?
Unfortunately, no.

Gonna have to hire private security, move into a private gated community with security, or move into a condominium to stop this.. I'm sure there's other solutions as well.
Either way, If I'm making 200k+ a week, I'm easily doing one of these things to keep my family and belongings safe.
