Back in the days before iTunes, when people actually listened to whole albums and albums had their own coherence or flow, the beginning of an album was always a key point.
That genesis, the jump from silence to music that sets up the rest of the album, a few personal favourites:

...and you will know us by the trail of dead - and you will know them...

...and you will know us by the trail of dead - Ode To Isis

I forgot "Countdown to Armageddon" off Public Enemy's Nation of Millions. It's not a great song, in fact not even a song, but the first time I heard it was a seminal moment for me. I had bought the album for the purpose of putting my prejudicial dislike of hip-hop to the test, and this track alone was enough to turn me around. I immediately knew I was listening to one hell of a record. I still get excited when I hear it today (both the track and the record).

Oh, and the next track is Bring the Noise. That completely floored me.

The best I can do for a YouTube vid is this (0:58-2:30):

Excellent choice. As far as album intros go, that's hard to beat. All about the sense of foreboding (and a sublime yet simple bit of scratching)

Foreboding, that's the word I knew I should have been looking for. It has an absolutely intense feeling of uh-oh (in a positive way).
