Bebe hopes for Manchester United return after impressing on loan
Portuguese forward Bebe has made it clear that he would love to have a future at Manchester United, although nobody from the club has spoken to him lately about their plans for him.

Bebe was signed by United in the summer of 2010 but struggled to make an impact in his first season at Old Trafford and has since been loaned out three times.

Having previously spent time with Besiktas and then Rio Ave, the 23-year-old is currently enjoying a season-long stay with Pacos de Ferreira in his native Portugal.

He has been in fine form for Pacos, netting nine goals in 31 appearances, and hopes he will be given a chance to break through at United next season.

"I still hope to return to Manchester United, but nobody from the club has spoken to me," Bebe said after scoring twice in a 3-1 victory over Arouca on Sunday night.

According to A Bola, a United scout was in attendance to see Bebe in action against Arouca.

The player, who has one year remaining on his United contract, added: "I am in good form and I hope to remain this way."
I don't think he has a future here, but nine goals in 31 appearances is a decent return. Maybe some followers of the Portuguese league can shed some light on his overall performance. He has, perhaps correctly, become the forgotten man at Manchester United. Serious potential to go down as Ferguson's worst signing, but I hope he can have a decent career somewhere.

Quinton Fortune told Andy Mitten in a UWS podcast a while back that Bebe is the most skillful player at Old Trafford in training.

He says the problem Bebe has is he doesn't have the know how on how to actually play a game.

Thought it was interesting anyway.

Scoring almost 1 in 2 in the Portuguese league, surely that has to count for something?

Well, the team he's on loan at - Pacos de Ferreira - finished 3rd in the Portuguese league last season. This season however they're currently 14th, one off the relegation play-off place.

Not that Bebe joining them has anything to do with this turn around in fortunes mind...

 Imagine him saying it to Bebe's face.

"Bebe, you're the most skillful player in training, ahead of anyone else. The big problem is, you don't know how to actually play football."

That is interesting. Bearing in mind his background, you'd expect him to be a very late developer compared to kids who've had the benefit of elite coaching since they were in primary school. With this in mind, 23 is really still very young. Not to mention he missed another 6-12 months of development when he popped his ACL

Probably still too late for him to make it at United but it would be great if he did go on to have a career at a decent level. Would certainly help explain why we were willing to take a punt on him.

He isn't currently United potential, but I wont stick my neck out and say he never will, the improvement over the past 12 months is phenomenal, he's in a different class to Djembax2 etc, he will NOT be Ferguson's worst signing.

There's raw potential there, no doubt. And just looking at some of his highlights this season, there is some absolutely outrageous goals. But then I think back to that Wolves horror show, which was genuinely one of the worst ever performances I've seen from a Manchester United player, and remember his distinct lack of basic footballing intelligence.

Madrid's interest forced our hand in this deal, didn't it? There was obviously serious raw potential.

Really, you buy that? Seemed an iffy way to funnel money to Mendes to me.

Well there was definitely something strange regarding the deal. But I'd assume Ferguson seriously trusted Mendes in brokering the transfer.

Shite crossing aside... it wasn't that bad, considering it was his first appearance and he came from nowhere.

Oh it was horrendous. He tried some nice flicks and tricks, but he looked slightly clueless, against Wolves. It was hilarious to watch.

Someone should make a video of all the goals he's scored, including for the reserves. It would be a pretty decent highlights reel.

Regardless of what you think about Bebe, it's unacceptable for our giant backroom team to have abandoned him out there. They should be in weekly contact with all of our loanees! Watching vidoes, talking the player through their development and so forth.

I'm pretty shocked at this if it's true.

To be fair its not as Quinton was a master in it.

There were people here that said he was a non league player a couple of years back.. he had the raw talent, he has been getting better.
Considering how late he started, it wouldnt be fair to compare him to other players his age.
If he was a 20 year old out on loan and doing all that, people would be very impressed.

Not sure if we'll give him more time, but he is alright..
No idea why we bought him. No clue why we paid so much.. but if gets a proper shot (at any club), I think he'll end up being a pretty decent footballer.

I watched United practice a couple of years ago and thought Obertan was the most skillful player. Same story.

How old was he there? From those clips I'd say that's a good debut. Scored, played a few good crosses, overhit one or two but looked skillful and fast.

He's a strange player. He's got quick feet, fast & strong and can score spectactular goals from anywhere but he's very raw and doesn't have a football brain which will mean he won't cut it at the top level. He sort of reminds of Zaha now, looks very promising but there's something missing from their games that holds them back.

Bebe in the reserves used to tear it apart at times then others he was dreadful, if the defender knew what to do and could match him for pace & strength then Bebe couldn't play basically. But as has been mentioned, he's on a steep learning curve and there has been plenty of late bloomers before so you never know, I can't see him every making it at United, he will be sold at the end of the season regardless of what he does but I would like to see him stay in the Premiership.

Carlos Quieroz was tipped off about him and advised us to get him on the cheap, I think he then went to Guimareas where he banged in goals in pre-season and looked incredible. Quieroz said to take a punt as he had all these raw attributes and if we could develop him then he could become a fantastic player, Fergie was unsure having never seen him but he trusted Quieroz so made contact, I think he then decided against it due to the fee but heard Madrid were now interested.

To be fair to Fergie in his position, you get informed by your most trusted assistant about a young unknown Portugese player who traditionally produce great wingers/strikers. Told he has all these raw attributes i.e. pace, power and can finish with both feet, he just needs developing at a big club and then you hear Madrid are interested, in all likelihood you would make a move because if it had worked out, he would become a top class player but regrettably it seems he was mis-informed as to how much he could develop.

Wasn't it the league game against Wolves that Bebe was horrendous? Came on for Hargreaves after literally a minute.

My one and only game stood in the Stretty... I'll never forget it!

Yeah it was a different game, the one we barely won 2-1 thanks to Park late goal in the league. He was fine in the cup.

That's an outrageous goal!

Maybe he can become our Moreno Torricelli, he played for some Italian non league factory team until he joined Juve at the age of 23 I think.
yeah, heard he was working as a blacksmith too

I know it's unlikely, but it would be brilliant to see him turn successful and it'd be superb if it could happen here. The whole narrative and how he has, for some, become this symbol of ridicule on the Caf and elsewhere would just make it all the more pleasing to see him make it

He's gotta be a better option than Valencia

Bring Bebe Home!

I honestly think he'll go on to have a decent career in football, it just won't be with us. If the back story on Bebe is correct he didn't really have proper education in football the way most players do, so his understanding of football is probably that of a 16 year old or thereabouts. His raw talent allows him to contribute now, but he's probably at least 2 more years from being anywhere near ready for a club of our stature. If we do get rid of him in the summer, I'd strongly recommend a buy back clause.

Yeah, and you have to wonder what the hell Fergie was thinking playing him in a league match when he so incredibly raw. I can only presume he was stung into it by the press hysteria.

Hargreaves was playing RM when he injured himself, and we had no other wingers on the bench, so SAF had to play Bebe to keep the same team shape.

Bebe came off for Macheda after 74 minutes, when we were looking for a winner (which we got through a 93rd minute Park goal)

He's arguably been our best player on pre-season tour 2 years running. That's not to say he'll make it here, but I think we should give him a go. I wouldn't mind seeing him on the left in a 4-2-3-1 formation. He has one hell of a shot of him when he cuts inside.

I don't think it's very strange. There's obviously good, raw talent there and I can actually see why we took a punt (though at a higher price than you'd expect), but I suppose he came into organized club football too late. It's like a wild horse that needs to be tamed, and the year he lost to injury while on loan hasn't helped one bit. He's way behind in terms of development and just understanding the game and what it's like to play with a team around him, and I'm sure he closed some of that gap, but we'll never know how good he could have become. It was never likely he'll progress well and fast enough for United.
