Bands/Artists/Songwriters you love but nobody else has heard of.

Great thread:

Chester French: Duo from Harvard who graduated, now tour with Blink 182, Asher Roth, Pharrell (They're on his label now) and are working on touring with Jay-Z for the second part of the Blueprint 3 tour.

Oh, and they're a rock band.

The Virgins: New York band with a distinct UK feel... Their song "Rich Girls" got alot of spins and they've been on all the late-night shows... they're working on their second album and touring the US right now.

The most obscure band I really, really love is probably The Cherry Blossoms, a sort of kitchen sink singalong collective from Nashville. Their self-titled LP is one of the greatest things of the century. At least three Dusted Magazine writers and one guy from Foxy Digitalis called it things like "easily the most unapologetically joyous recording I've heard in some time" and named it among the top five albums of 2007, but no-one else seems to have taken much notice.

WARNING: Not recommended if your ears for some reason require competent musicianship and production. (They're brilliant songwriters, though.)

spent many a night in 93-94 tripping to this.

Im no hip-hop fan really, but of the stuff I do like New Kingdom's stuff is as good as it all gets.

Quality! I was hoping somebody else would know them - my faith in the Caf is restored!

I actually remember checking for New Kingdom stuff on YouTube a while back but finding virtually nothing - seems that someone has added a whole load of stuff in the last few months which is good to see

Incredible String Band. One of my favourite bands of all time. Nobody has ever heard of them. Their heyday was in the late 60's early 70's.
I went to see Robin Williamson (from ISB) play a solo show a year or so ago, and it was very enjoyable. The undoubtable highlight was a cover of Ace of Spades, harp and vocal only.

In fact, here it is (not from the same show)

Speaking of harp, Baby Dee is absolutely fantastic. She's nozot completely unknown by any means, but if ISB, Smog and a few of the other ones mentioned here can be included, then Dee can too. (She used to be a man, if anyone wondered.)
