Arsenal-Mania goes into Meltdown

The Arsenal v Utd match thread is quite cute. They started it off with loads of quotes from our match thread here. It's like they were eating their olives before expecting a delicious steak for their main. They ended up with stale tuna sandwiches.

You lot clearly erked them enough to make it on the front page. :D

Love it. Natural order has been resumed.

We’ve beaten arsenal exactly the same way for the last 15 years and 3 different arsenal managers.
Strange that they cannot or will not adapt to it, but I’m not complaining
I love beating the Wenger/Pep-ball teams in this fashion. Their fans think it's not fair because I don't know: we didn't play in a way that would make it easy for them to win.

I know this thread is from 2009 but is Arsenal Mania the best they’ve got? I just looked and there hadn’t been a post for seven minutes.

At least madness is on tap 24/7 here, RAWK and Bluemoon.

It's one thing Arsenal and their fans as a team don't seem to learn. If you are going to play football where you over commit and overload your attacks, of course every opponent including Utd is going to counter it by doing what will hurt them most. Why would Utd do anything different when the same recipe keeps baking a lovely cake?

This argument of "we dominated the game" is so flawed when the context of the game isn't taken into consideration. Once we took the lead, we are naturally going to sit back and counter attack as we know they'll give us plenty of opportunities. When it was 0-0 we had a 15 min period where they couldn't get out of their own half. They came back well after the disallowed goal, but once we took the lead it was always going to be a game where we were happy to let them have posession as we had the players to hurt them on the break.

It's a measure of how dumb the VAR system is when people are arguing it should be a foul but it should still be disallowed.

Why design a system that lets human error creep back in? A fouls a fecking foul, end of.

It's copium. Nothing more. They would be placing more importance on the result if they parked the bus and nicked a 1-0 win.

Rawk once made a whole conversation about my post on Caf about Klopp's spending (comment based on transfermarkt). I was labelled as deluded because Klopp doesn't spend money  .
Now Arsenal.

OK, what to post to get on bluemoon? :wenger:
Something about chequebook manager, i guess.

Why can't those idiots ackwlodge that their team played very, very well but lacked the cutting edge and fighting spirit that we had on the day. Classic Arsenal I guess.

I wouldn't say they dominated the game either, we were better first 20 minutes, and then again we dominated after our second goal till the final whistle. They were great in between but football is about defending too, and we were rock solid.

You absolutely love to see it. The salt is fantastic. Can't wait to watch these overrated twats tumble down the league

I am at a complete loss at how they are taking for granted the idea that they "dominated the game", it is such an over simplistic understanding of football.

They dominated the ball sure but what is the actual point of possesion? I would argue possession should in theory do 2 things, one lead to you creating chances and 2 protect you from conceding chances. That would be the ideal.

We scored 3, they scored 1. We had 6 shots on target, they had 3. It would seem like their possession didn't really do either the jobs it was meant to. Latter years ineffective Wenger like performance if I have ever seen one. They pass the ball from side to side, we readjust to contain them, rinse and repeat until we pick them off. After our second goal I had absolutely no doubt we would win.

I can't remember who we were against, but there was one game in particular under Moyes where we absolutely dominated possession and laid on a record amount of crosses into the opposition box, and still managed to lose the game. Literally squandered chance after chance, while the opposition clinically punished us on the counter. That was the game when it hit home for me that possession isn't necessarily the be all and end all.

I got quoted twice on that page  Wish I got an achievement or something for that. My first time being quoted in another forum.

The most surprising thing about their match thread, was how hard they celebrated the Martinelli goal as if the foul didn't exist.

Starting around page 46-47

Not sure why they've quoted me there. Think they've not understood the context behind that comment, where I was responding to people saying Arteta is over hyped and me wondering what hype there was. Because all I ever read is that he's useless, and I actually felt he was undeserving of the criticism.

They quoted me saying their fans would be annoying if they won the title. It's an objective fact.

Another interesting phenomenon that rival fans do (and I'm sure we do it too) is to allow confirmation bias and or recency bias cloud our judgment about how good or bad a team is. United have been very poor and easy to play against for a few years, but anyone paying attention to our previous 3 wins would see that we did not give up many chances and we were far from easy to play against. Sure we weren't tearing up trees going forward, but the basics of a solid team were all there to see over three matches.

In the Arsenal pre-match and in-game comments they were unable to factor this in at all. They have also massively over rated their own team because they won some games that they should be winning. They are clearly vulnerable to the counter attack and have been for years. Ten Hag obviously has seen that and set the team up to exploit it. We probably should have had a couple more in the end as they chased the game.

I do love a "player x is finished" followed by - "ffs x just scored, that's your fault"

I think all fans do this. Before the game, in their reddit thread, they all agreed that their whole starting 11 is better than ours. No exceptions, and they were certain that Dalot would bottle the whole game.

They learn fast though.

I work with a bunch of Arsenal fans. Today has been glorious :)

cockneys use terrible grammar. it's 'united were lucky bastards, weren't they?', not 'united was lucky bastards, innit?'
pfft.

Liverpool fans tend to be the most rabid, but I think Arsenal fans are certainly the worst for getting up themselves before any sort of achievement has been earnt.

I keep seeing the complaining about the foul on Eriksen. Does anybody remember last season's game against Arsenal when pretty much every decision went their way and there were quite a few bad calls

It was a foul on Eriksen though, most people are accepting that. Some think it wasn't 'enough' of a foul for VAR to intervene which is frankly stupid.

This is the exact situation that VAR was brought in for, it's a perfect example. Ref gets it wrong, opposition score and with clear evidence the goal is cancelled. Spot on.

Their fans are a funny lot. I remember one fella I worked used to give it the big un when United had a shit result. When Arsenal lost and when I went to wind him up his reply was always "I don't know mate, I didn't watch it". I used to think bullshit, of course you watched it.

Indeed. I was actually incensed that Saka didn't get carded -yellow at least- for that nasty impromptu kick on Bruno. That's what I expect VAR to do away with, not whether a very marginal offside is so very marginally on or off. Potayto-potahto.

I think I know someone like that as well, are they older? Best cop-out ever.

I would only add that Arsenal don't look half bad. They overcomplicate a bit but improvement is there to see. The most suspect area are CB's but they will be in the mix for top 4.

Yellows can't be given out by VAR which is frankly stupid also. Only if it was worthy of a red card. :wenger:

Even a 2nd yellow card that would send somebody off can't be contested!

Here’s a little gem from Mania after Rashford scores 2-1:

Man that forum is the biggest collection of fruit cakes I've ever seen. Arsenal fans are a bit 'special'

The victim mentality Arsenal fans have is another level to a Liverpool. Explains why they’re a bunch of nearly men.

Paraphrasing off top of my head:

"We gave Antony his debut goal, kick-started rashfords redemption story, and gave belief and confidence to united. We're the biggest cnuts around "

Arsenal won 'positives to take from the game' and possession stats, which of course are more important than the actual goals tally. The fans are sooo salty.

Main problem with Arsenal fans. Been there since Wenger, constantly 'play better', 'control the game' and 'deserve to win' but always lose. I wonder when they're going to wake up and realise that maybe it's because of the way they play at OT that they always end up losing.
