Don't know who's still interested in this - Kristjan? Mozza?

Anyway, HBO greenlighted a pilot and they've started casting for the first season based on A Game of Thrones. They've got the following actors

Tyrion - Peter Dinklage
Cersei - Lena Headey (Sarah Connor)
Jorah Mormont - Iain Glen (small role at the end of Kingdom of Heaven as Richard the Lionheart)
Ned Stark - Boromir (yes Sean Bean likes playing blokes with massive swords who get killed at the end)
Catelyn Stark - Jennifer Ehle (who's she?)
Theon Greyjoy - Alfie Allen (naked bloke who's also Lily Allen's brother)
Jaime - some Danish actor

They've also cast most of the children with unknowns.

Can't wait, but I suspect it'll get cancelled after a few episodes. Too epic for HBO.

Lena Headey is not how I imagine Cersei to look. The Lannisters are supposed to be Blonde haired and and green of eye? They will need to cast Jon well, and finding someone to play Hodor and Brienne will be interesting.

The series is on a grander scale than even LotR, as you say I don't think it will work out. Looking forward to it mind

Can't wait for it. I love the books to bits, though GRRM is so old now that he'll probably never finish them.

But yeah, it's probably too epic for HBO, they've usually got big budgets for shows but this seems too big. It won't get cancelled after 4 episodes though, HBO always film the entire season before airing it.

Hodor is Vinnie Jones with big buck teeth and a concussion.

Does Brienne appear in A Game of Thrones? I can't remember.

Ah no, she doesn't really appear until book 3- I was thinking a bit too far ahead.

Interesting, would have preferred Assassin's apprentice mind, but meh.

She will probably colour her hair, or use a wig. Hair colour should not be an issue.

One thing that they will change from the books is Danyeres' age. Don't think that mainstream TV is ready sex scenes with for 14 years old characters.

I'm so excited about this.. haven't been this excited about a TV pilot in eons :)

Been keeping tabs on the cast on Martin's website, Dinklage was an obvious choice for Tyrion. Wish Martin spent more time on finishing the next book though.

Can't friggin wait !!! I've been reading this non-stop for a while now. Just started with "A Clash of Swords" ... the show is going to be sweet. Get them done with GRRM ... please. Can't suffer another WoT.

Latest castings, with pictures, here. The Lannisters are not blond. Theon Greyjoy looks like a straw scarecrow next to Robb Stark.

Casting news from the TV series - Page 15 - Science Fiction Fantasy Chronicles: forums

Why the hell would they not make them blonde? ... not that it distracts from the story .. but their association to everything gold is symbolic of their family and character. Surely they could have kept something so simple unchanged. Have high hopes for this though .. unless it goes the Rome way and gets cancelled after a couple of seasons.

It's the names that draw you in. I mean, who doesn't want to hear about a character called Ned Stark? Or a king called Robert Baratheon?

If not the exotic names, the incest should certainly attract a fair few folk. I can certainly think of one or two on here at any rate...

Arya is a good casting, but King Robert- are you kidding? He is supposed to be a bear of a man, 6 and a half feet tall- not just fat. Theon Greyjoy looks a bit miscast as well, he is basically a Viking.

Alfie Allen is a bit weedy. Balon Greyjoy in my imagination looks like Jeremy Irons, and Theon is supposed to be as imposing.

Hair dye? They have to dye eyebrows too.

They should switch the actors playing Jorah Mormont and King Robert.

Nah Jorah Mormont's casting looks fairly reasonable. They should just hire some massive, hairy unheard of actor to play King Robert. It's not like he is going to be in it for very long anyway!

Point. But I liked Robert in his short role ... deserves a good actor to play him. Ned keeps mentioning how fat Robert had become over the years with his vices .. he never mentioned anything about him eating a fecking cow .. whole.

Any idea what the format is for the show ... are they doing 'n' number of episodes per season to cover one book or has that still not been announced.

I'll reserve judgement on the casting until we actually seem them in the pilot.
Random web pics don't tell you much about how they'll actually turn out in the show.

I've not read the series, but it seems to be very popular. I hope this doesn't get butchered like The Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind did.
