9-0 last season, 1-1 this season. How have United changed?

What's about this team different compared to last season?

I'm just using the two Southampton games are just convenient comparison points because of the huge contrast in the results.

The wider point is about what's going wrong with the club that we used to be getting right. We've gone from breaking records with comeback wins, to losing leads in every single match.

If you use one game as the base for an argument, the discussion is going to be pretty lame. Be better than this next time please.

We probably beat Manchester City last season, I believe Crystal Palace beat them this year, doesn’t mean shit.

There's obviously more to it than that.
We were getting fu*** by Liverpool 5-0 and the club didn't do s***. It was clear we had written off the season. We got fu**** by City, club didn't do s***, emphasising again the season has been written off. Then January came and we did nothing in the transfer window showing again we had written off the season. Players are humans too, they got the message. No one from top to bottom gives a s**** about this season. I am having a meltdown.

Well its obs. , only thing different is manager, Ole aint here no more to make us brilliant, also them being man down had no impact on that result.

it’s clear we need Ralf managing the 1st half of games and Ole managing the 2nd half

Dunno. We lost to Spurs 6-1 last season and beat them 3-0 this season. What's changed?

There's a reason no one with any sense uses tiny sample sizes to form an opinion

Is this about us against Southampton specifically or are you asking why have we been much worse this year? If the former - no. There isn’t more to it. We won comfortably last year due to them getting 2 men sent off. The year before under Ole we got dicked at home by them struggling to deal with their intensity much like today and were very fortunate to draw 1-1 despite them scoring a last minute equaliser.

do you think other teams stay static and dont improve? Delete this thread fam

Because we are not playing training games behind closed doors in the PL anymore. The Bruno Fernandes lottery has been milked out. The luck has been lucked out. Because 9-0 against 10 men for 90 minutes is a result which doesn't matter. Happy?

It is a bit of a waste of time to generalise based on one game. But I will say this: I much prefer to win the odd game 9-0 than have good patterns of play, a clear way of playing, well-drilled players following the game plan but shit results no goals and a generally terrible attitude and state of mind.

How? It's the same squad as last year, but with the addition of Varane, Sancho and Ronaldo.

How are we worse despite being better on paper?
We aren't worse. Compare a season, not a single game. That's what's silly. Not to mention you're comparing two games one with 11 players and the other with 10.

1. Inverted forwards playing with a striker with passing and hold up play in our match last year. We were not playing like Stoke trying to cross every opportunity we get because we have our own Peter Crouch.

2. Red card to Southampton

I personally think it's mostly a confidence thing. Possibly to do with the undropability of certain players and the comfort that gives them to dial it in.

Go on then. I'm asking about 'how United have changed', not 'how the matches were different'.

We very much are worse.

Southampton are a good side with a very tactically astute manager. They've improved on their form from last season.

Was scoring 9 goals normal for United? Was conceding 9 goals normal for Southampton?

Southampton put in one of the worst performances I've ever seen in the 9-0. Their manager had an absolute shocker.

The question would be just as valid if Ole was still in charge. We were different at the beginning of the season as well.
Our football has been rubbish for the past three years, bar some great counter attacking wins, continued to be rubbish this year too up until RR, we have changed a bit since, we dont sit back and wait to counter with 6 at the back like we used to, we dont start off games like shit anymore, we try to press and attack with a plan now we just still arent good enough for many reasons.

That's patently untrue.

Or Mourinho for 2nd half. Should Soccer change to American style, it would be nice to put RR on offence, Mourinho on defence. Perhaps Ole can handle the training bit and after-game party.
