1980's YouTube music nostalgia thread

Rocklobster - This means more to me than most could figure out!

I have one of these

In perfect working order.

Sadly I can't find a full version of this one which originally ran to about 9 minutes. It was recorded in 79o but only 3 people and a small dog heard it before 1980 so I'm counting it.

Bauhaus - Bela Lugosi's Dead

It was also used as the opening for the 83 Tony Scott film The Hunger (the stupid music on the beginning is nothing to do with the song or movie BTW).

Strewth Wibbs, Ginger and a goth. It's a miracle you ever got married :p

Loved Bauhaus' version of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars too BTW

Ginger? Feck off.

A slight reddish tinge to brown hair does not a ginger make.

Does it?

And I was never a goth but I loved Bauhaus. They were brilliant live.

You might know Bury. I have been trying to think of a band from that era. From Liverpool I think, dark clothes, dark hair and loads of guitar feedback.

Scouse? If it's the Jesus and Mary Chain you're thinking of then they're Glaswegian.

Excellent band

They were all about distortion and feedback. Think they toured a lot with Primal Scream
They were a decade earlier than primal scream, in fact if you check out the drummer in that video around 2.05 in you'll see a particularly young Bobby Gillespie in his first band. They remain good mates (ridiculous when you know quite how miserable the Reid brothers are) and IIRC Bobby still played with them occasionally if Scream commitments let him so it's not impossible that they may have toured together.

Their music was great but their concerts were either excellent or a complete disaster with a good number lasting less than 10 minutes if the brothers fell out or the sound wasn't right and a fair few dissolving into full blown riots. Was always a good night out though.

Weren't they the ones that performed with their backs to the audience many a time? And yeah I remember reading about how short their early gigs used to be.

Primal Scream formed in 1982 while Jesus and Mary Chain came together in 1984 but you're right they never toured together.
Jesus, didn't realise Primal Scream had been around that long. First thing I heard was Velocity Girl off C86 and their first album wasn't out until a year later.

The playing with their back to the audience was usually because they didn't like the way the audience were moshing, I remember them doing it at the International in Manchester and eventually walking off while security announcements were made asking people to stop pushing and stand back from the barriers or they wouldn't come back out. They did play another 30 minutes or so to avoid another riot but the atmosphere was a bit stiff for the rest of the set.

Husker Du - Don't Want To Know If You Are Lonely

Great band, shame they are now seen as an influence on emo.
