Bruno is playing Fred’s role B2B with a bit more creativity.

Why is everyone saying it’s a one man midfield?
Because Bruno becomes completely disabled when he moves away from the no.10 zone. Apparently he doesn’t even know which one is his right foot when he drops deeper.

Hope Bruno will have the sense to be positionally disciplined today. He is playing in a deeper role and that role has greater defensive responsibilities.

It will be interesting to see if he plays in a double pivot, covering a full back again, or we have more of a 4-1-4-1.

He’s better deeper IMO (or wider), as it makes better use of his range of passing, and he’s not really great in tight spaces or running into the box anyway. It’s just he has to be a lot more disciplined positionally when playing as one of the main CMs, and his natural game is to be all-action.

Yeah he will need to be disciplined I agree. Hopefully he shows he has that in his locker. I suspect we want to try and dominate early and get ahead then later shuffle it with Fred etc

    Very attacking starting XI.

Looks more like what you'd go for in the last 30 minutes if we're a goal down. Plenty of goals and attacking threat in it, but it's asking an awful lot of Casemiro to win the midfield battle on his own - or for Bruno to put in a more disciplined performance defensively.

A little concern that we'll be unbalanced and top heavy and lose the midfield battle. But, If we can get an early goal then, with that line up, we can hopefully go for the jugular and kill a team off early for once.

Could go either way but certainly a brave, attacking decision.
It’s funny: 10-20 years ago people would lament a 4-1-4-1 as a very defensive line-up, comparing it to a 4-4-2 with a holding midfielder instead of a second striker. Now a formation like this is seen as very aggressive. Maybe there’s an argument to made for the personnel, but Weghorst is a defensive forward if there ever was one.

We want the same team every match, but we also want the players getting rest. We also want an attacking side but not THAT attacking because there's no easy teams and the last place team is going to walk all over us in the midfield. Feel like our manager is too rigid but we won't want to see him experiment with the line-ups too much. Above all, we want to moan before the kick-off to pass time.

Glad AWB is starting ahead of Dalot. Weghorst to get on the scoresheet again. Not sure about Fernandes partnering Casemiro to be honest but we'll see how it plays out.

Bruno played deeper against Betis on Thursday and ten Hag was very impressed with his performance so it isn't that surprising that he's trying him there again today.

    True.

It's just a little more attacking than normal bringing in Sancho for the likes of a Fred, McTominay (Sabitzer, Eriksen), and so playing Bruno in that deeper role.

But, yeah, it's still ostensibly a 4-2-3-1 / 4-1-4-1 so hardly kamikaze. But, personnel wise, it's more of an attacking line up than usual. But we are at home to the bottom of the table so I guess ETH feels we can take the attack to them more than in some other games.

I think it's a dictatorial from the coaching team to the social media team. Announcing them in numerical order presents tactical obscurity for would-be opponents trying to figure out how to counter.
I would like to think United , especially the social media team, were that smart.

Really want Sancho to shine in a central position today. Immense talent, just need to find the right position and the right balance between simple hard work and more extravaganza

Would have prefered Fred in midfield with Case

Looking forward to not watching this thanks to a two hour confirmation mass. I shall however, be praying for a Rashford hat-trick alongside a clean sheet. Oh yes and also not forgetting, the collective sins of cafites far and and wide.
