Rotation is necessary although we still need to keep momentum. Changing the entire back four against A decent Sociedad is risky and I won't be shocked if we drop points here.

    DDG
    AWB Lindelof Maguire Shaw
    Casemiro Fred
    Antony VDB Garancho
    Ronaldo
    This team please

I think we might play a stronger XI than some on here are expecting, but it's also hard to not see Maguire, Casemiro, Fred, and Ronaldo coming into the starting line-up at least.

By stronger XI, I basically mean closer to the one that started against Arsenal even though some players arguably improve the side by coming in.

    Dubravka
    Dalot Varane Maguire Malacia
    Casemiro Fred
    Antony Bruno Sancho
    Ronaldo

Sub on Wan-Bissaka, Shaw, Donny, and hopefully Garnacho and Martial if fit.

We need to get our europa off to a good start so I'd keep the team largely the same.

    Ronaldo, casemiro to start though.

No Donny as a 10 please, it doesn't work. Bruno will have to come save him.

He can't carry the responsibility of being the creator, he benefits of other well playing and creating players, by making good use of space.

    De Gea

    Dalot Lindelof Maguire Shaw

    Casemiro Fred

    Antony Bruno Garnacho

    Ronaldo

With VDB and Elanga replacing Antony and Bruno with half an hour to go.

You guys realize we play sociedad right? Is the overall arrogance after 4 wins on the trot already setting in? Shouldn’t we be more humble considering we are playing a la liga team. Our record versus Spanish opposition is abysmal and that is not just versus real or barca but all teams bar Valencia.
Let these stats sip in for a minute. Don’t take this game lightly.

    I agree with @Havak - I don't think there'll be wholesale changes.

Even though we're doing well at the moment, I still maintain we need to try and win the Europa League because Top 4 is going to be very tough.

Play a strong side, rest whoever really needs it. Qualify, then play the kids in the last couple of games.

    De Gea
    Dalot - Maguire - Martinez - Shaw
    Casemiro
    Bruno - Fred
    Anthony - Ronaldo - Sancho

FiveThirtyEight have little between the two sides on their modelling with us being the 25th and 27th best sides in Europe. I definitely feel we are trending upwards, but this will still be a tough game. Hopefully the manager will want to make a good start in the competition whilst the team is still fresh and take it from there. Many of our regular subs will start here, but it won’t be full rotation and nor should it. We’ll have a strong bench too. People expecting Iqbal and Savage to play are watching the wrong United team.

    DDG/Dubravka
    Dalot Lindelöf Maguire Shaw
    Casemiro Fred
    Antony DVB* Elanga
    Ronaldo

*Bruno if DVB is injured as not on the bench today.

Yep, no idea what people are on about, sending the youth and posting lineups with Ole’s horrific back 4, new goalie, kids and Van de Beek.
We have other easier matches in this group.

Some players need a rest, some need minutes but you can’t just field an entirely different XI against a very good La Liga side and expect to get anything out of the game, this isn’t Grimsby at home in the league cup.

Lets get a result to keep the momentum going here.

They have really looked impressive so far this season whenever I've watched then. That scoreline against Barca was rather unfair and were well worth the point against Atleti.

Midfield of Silva, Zubimendi, Merino is very good in possession. New signings Ali-Cho and Sadiq will be a handfull. It won't be a walk in the park

    Dubravka
    AWB - Maguire - Lindelof - Shaw
    Fred - Casemiro
    Antony - Van de Beek/Bruno - Elanga
    Ronaldo

    3-1 United.

Ronaldo, Casemiro and Varane waiting for the team bus on Wednesday night and wondering where the feck everyone else is?

    Dubravka
    AWB - Maguire - Lindelof - Shaw
    Fred - Casemiro
    Antony - Van de Beek/Bruno - Elanga
    Ronaldo

    3-1 United.
We’re not beating Real Socieded let alone 3-1 away from home with that team and that disaster of a back four.
That’s basically throwing away the game.

I want to win this game to keep the momentum going but we need to rotate where we can.

Maguire and Lindelof will no doubt end in disaster but we need to give Varane and Martinez a rest.

That disaster of a back 4 finished 3rd and 2nd in the league, and comfortably reached and dominated the Europa cup finals.

Do you guys have so much of a recency bias?

Casemiro-Fred is Brazil's starting midfield pairing.

    Agree with @Damien 's lineup.

Sociedad away is the group game we can afford to drop points in and it's important with this run than we give guys like Varane, Martinez and Eriksen a rest.

I think last years defence with Casemiro, Fred, Donny and Ronaldo all starting should be enough for at least a point over there.

I have no problems with Fred-Casemiro, I never want to see this back 4 start another game of football for this club together ever again.
They’ve barely played any football for weeks, but sure, throw them in together away to a Spanish side.

Last season isn’t a “recency bias” they were absolute dogpiss for an entire season.
Individually they all have something to offer, but all of them together? 4 of them? Never again.

Rests for Rashford and Eriksen please.

I hope we go reasonably strong as it would be good to put this group to bed after 4 games following the home and away against Omonia.

I’m also hoping to see us be on the ball a bit more.

    ———————DDG
    Dalot—Maguire—Martinez—Shaw
    ——————Casemiro
    ———-Bruno————Fred
    Antony—————————Elanga
    ——————Ronaldo

A shame for the likes of VDB not to get minutes but there will be plenty of opportunities in the other 5 group games. Let’s get off to a good start first.

    De Gea

    AWB/Lindelof/Maguire/Shaw

    Casemiro/Fred

    Fernandes

    Antony/Ronaldo/Garnacho

Dalot has been run ragged, can't risk him. Can't risk injuries to Varane or Martinez either.

De Gea needs to start playing it out from the back, Casemiro needs to be settled in, Fred deserves to start, Fernandes is a resilient player so can start - sub him for VDB if all is going well - Antony needs to settle in, Ronaldo the same and Garnacho really needs a run out.

I don't want Sancho or Rashford starting. Martial won't be back.

There's more than enough quality in that side to win.

    Dubravka
    Dalot Lindelof Maguire Shaw
    Casemiro Fred
    Antony Bruno Elanga
    Ronaldo

Unfortunately Bruno will likely have to play again as DvB must be injured with 2 keepers on the bench today, same goes for Dalot as there was no sign of AWB either.

The good thing is about having 2 quality number 10s now is we can afford to rest one of them. Could play either Bruno or eriksen as the 10 against these with Casemiro and Fred in the middle. Think we need to rotate but not to much. Keep the players momentum going… also need to keep them fresh though. Think we have enough to beat these and palace at the weekend with a little rotation.

And we still have Martial to come back. Of course he won't be ready for some time but looking forward to seeing what he can do in this team after the start to the season he has had. Sociedad won't be no mugs and we'll no doubt have a very different team to today.

Very useful tournament in a season where top 4 will be tough. Wholesale changes

This will be interesting. We will simply have to rest quite a few players so it's a complete unknown whether a radically different XI can display the same team spirit and work ethic. I was nervous today even at 3-1 when Maguire was on and we had no pacey outlet up front. The balance of Varane and Martinez is outstanding.

I would hope Varane is wrapped up in cotton wool as well as Eriksen, at the very least.

    -----------------------Dubravka
    AWB--------Lindelof-----Maguire-------Shaw
    -------------Casemiro-------Fred
    Antony---------------Donny--------------Sancho/Elanga/Garnacho
    --------------------------Ronnie

Would expect Antony to keep getting minutes, would also love to see Garnacho getting decent playing time. Hopefully Iqbal from the bench. The back four will hopefully up their level given what they've seen from the sidelines.

    I’d make 11 changes:

    Dubravka

    AWB
    Lindelof
    Magure
    Shaw

    Casemiro
    Fred

    Donny

    Elanga
    Ronaldo
    Garnacho

The side above is arguably better than anything we fielded last season ridiculous what one or 2 quality additions can do.

The league is the priority right now. Rest everyone.

    De Gea

    Shaw
    Lindelof
    Maguire
    AWB

    Fred
    Casemiro

    Elanga
    VDB
    Garnacho

    Ronaldo

We've got a decent squad so we should be using it. Maybe keep a couple of first teamers in but I'd like to see us rotate the side a bit - Palace away will be a tough match next weekend and there have already been a lot of games in quick succession early in the season.

Perhaps a good opportunity to give Garnacho a cameo appearance too. He's shown he has the talent, Europa games are a slightly less pressurised environment to introduce a young player like that.

    Ronaldo
    Garnacho - Iqbal - Elanga
    Fred - Casemiro
    Shaw - Maguire - Lindelof - AWB
    Dubravka

Assuming VDB is injured, otherwise he probably starts in place of Iqbal.

Pack the bench with kids and Antony who needs some minutes, give the rest of the team some much deserved time off.

    Agree with this team.

Really hope we could utilize the squad a bit here. I know we have momentum but we need to rotate.

    Martial
    Garnacho Donny Antony
    Casemiro Fred
    Shaw Magalof AWB
    Dubravka

    My preferred line up.

You guys realize we play sociedad right? Is the overall arrogance after 4 wins on the trot already setting in?
I don't think people are writing Sociedad off, it's more they don't care about the Europa league, or are happy to drop points in this game at least.

    Dubravka

    Bissaka
    Lindeof
    Maguire
    Shaw

    Casemiro
    Fred
    DVB

    Antony
    Ronaldo
    Garnacho
