For Herrera's and the team's sake I have all my fingers cross that he starts. It's a very logical step if he's in for either Carrick (ok to meh form) or Schneiderlin (to rest him).
For Herrera it's obvious because he's too good to be a sub.
For the team, aside from trying to incorporate Herrera's ability (which is arguably for the good of the long term) I don't want to see LVG doing a Mourinho, where he runs the same group of players to the ground. Most at risk for me atm are Shaw, Darmian and Schneiderlin. I think those 3 probably cover the most ground and the most important statistic (that I'm using my own watching skillz to judge by) is that they perform the most high intensity short-to-long runs. I've mentioned it in other posts but I don't care how fit you are (ok maybe unless you're Valencia), if those 3 continue like that, they will not last.
You know why players like Alves, Alba, Lahm and Alaba have that energy to do the same high intensity runs/pressing they do from the start of the season to the end (apart from maybe having a Winter break)? They play in teams where they are absolutely dominant in possession and only have to use their atheletic ability a few times a game that is not of their own will i.e mostly in defensive instances (where you really stretch your body). Right now, we're not that well drilled yet and they're playing good because of their athleticism in the system as opposed to them being able to shine because of their athleticism in the system.
Anyways basically I want to see LVG rotate the team now. I'd gamble rotating a team now is better for the duration of the season than waiting for injuries/fatigue/loss of form to hit. The one thing I've been very pleased with LVG are his substitutions in that he's managing game time well so I want him to build on that.
